She was strong and her strength was a source of power for him, and god knows he could use all the help he could get. Gentle words gave him enough strength to continue on another day. Such things wouldn't have much of an impact if it were another individual but she seemed to be different. Despite only having one leg, she was graceful and elegant in his eyes; a divine deity with beauty with which he's never seen before. Ren has met lovely people, but none could compare to her. Her genuineness and compassion was the air in his lungs, he'd surely suffocate without her. It was frightening how much he depended on her and how desperately he tries to convince himself he doesn't need her around as often as he thinks. It was an endless cycle of going back and forth with himself and it was emotionally and mentally draining. "That is good," he started, speaking around the handful of blueberries he put in his mouth a couple moments prior. "But please do not work yourself too hard." He added, a edge of concern in his voice. He wanted to ask her to take another day off, but he held back and instead said, "If you start to feel unwell, call me and I will come and pick you up." Literally and figuratively. Piggyback, bridal, over his shoulder, over his head like a ballerina, he does it all and takes requests.
Watchful brown eyes followed her movements as she prepared breakfast, mentally counting all the things he couldn't do. When she finished, he had gotten to fifteen- with every increase, he felt even more useless. But that was okay. Delilah could teach him when both have the time. Truthfully, he felt he was unteachable when it came to cooking and he very much liked how Delilah didn't hate him. Surely, she'd develop some remorse when her frustration subsided and she concluded he was a lost cause. He decided to hold back on asking her to teach him until he felt the time was right. He did his best not to drift off into a daydream when the sweet smell of almost-done-breakfast slowly filled the space around them. A comforting smell accompanied with his most treasured person on a peaceful morning... It was hard not to drift off a bit. Inhaling slowly, he blinked out of his trance in time to see Delilah almost fall. Taking a step forward, he held out his arms to catch her but stopped when her crutch got to her first. Sighing in relief, he straightened up and ignoring the way his heart thumped wildly in his chest, he spoke. "Are you alright?" He could only imagine how hard it must be to function when something you were so used to got taken away. He couldn't relate - as far as body parts went anyways - but he imagined it was like learning how to walk all over again. She was struggling with it, but she didn't give up. It was admirable, and Ren respected that amongst other traits she possessed. As she collected herself and asked him what he would like to drink, he answered. "Coffee." He found himself back at the counter, looking at the freshly prepared food with hungry eyes. He was more than eager to eat, but he forced himself to relax and think about other things. It wouldn't be as nice if he couldn't eat with her.
Albeit, as silence filled the room he wished he was eating instead of playing with his pants and every so often popping another fruit in his mouth. He could hear his heartbeat and feel the blood coursing through his body... Was she feeling the same? Every breath felt like years have past and every blink could be compared to being reincarnated in an endless loop. Suddenly aware of his own existence, he looked down at his feet awkwardly as he tried to force his body back into autopilot.Just when he felt his efforts were meaningless, Delilah's voice seemed to shove everything back in place. Though her words sent both a chill and a wave of fire down his spine. It made him both sad and angry at the same time with such intensity, he felt lightheaded for a moment. He struggled to find words to convey how he was feeling and it showed on his face. The man repeatedly opened and closed his mouth for a moment before finally speaking. "You are tough. You are the strongest person I know." He said matter-of-factually. He paused as a new thought formulated in his mind before his expression hardened. "What? Did someone say otherwise?" Whoever this person is, whoever had the audacity to say or even think such a thing must have a fucking death wish. His killing days were over, however, beating someone to a bloody pulp wasn't beyond him. The idea of succumbing to violence left a disgusting taste in his mouth, but a bearable one he could definitely ignore if it meant protecting another. Sighing, he found himself at her side as he continued, "I'm... Delilah, you should not idolize someone like me. I am not worth your admiration." Biting down on the inside of his mouth, Ren scratched his head as he groaned, "How do I-" Thinking for a moment, he continued, shifting his eyes to look at her. "When I think of you, many words come to mind but 'weak' or 'helpless' or anything along those lines are none of them. Kind, smart, gentle, compassionate, empathetic, funny, clever, hardworking- the list goes on. You have so much potential and I will not allow the one person I respect and admire more than anything to speak so poorly of herself." He finished slowly and carefully, watching her expression and body language to make sure he didn't say anything weird. He also wanted to add he'd slain anyone who makes her doubt herself, but that didn't quite fit with the mood. He was allowed to talk shit about himself, but he will not stand for it if others put themselves down. Delilah was not exempted from this.
