A Disclaimer to Accurately Portraying Ivan:
To be specific, Ivan is somewhere in the later stages of dementia. He suffered from Early Onset Dementia. When I originally started, I thought there were four stages, not seven. Ivan is currently in Stage 5.

Mid-Stage:
Moderately Severe Cognitive Decline People in this stage have major memory deficiencies and need some assistance to complete their daily activities (dressing, bathing, preparing meals). Memory loss is more prominent and may include major relevant aspects of current lives; for example, people may not remember their address or phone number and may not know the time or day or where they are. Average duration: 1.5 years

I previously used Dimitri, a character with Dissociative Identity Disorder to help me understand and portray that disorder. With Ivan, I've attempted to do the same, but I have found it to be extremely difficult to write. I've had to take some liberties, such as: Ivan's memories are not entirely lost to him. Another character could look at his memories, but Ivan himself cannot access them. This was for plot reasons.

In short, I'm doing my best with the information I have and do not mean to offend anyone.
