There wasn't a day that went by where the commander didn't check his traps rigged throughout territory; it was one of the only routines he could follow without fail. Well, trap-checking and taking Audrey III out to get some sunlight and a meal. The mutated fly trap was proving to be quite the glutton, demanding more and more prey to be handed to it every day and nearing a frightful growth spurt because of it. Weren't plants self-sufficient? Maybe Beck should have been letting Audrey hunt for its own food, however fly traps accomplished that. Planning to kill two birds with one stone, the commander gathered Audrey and its makeshift pot of a bucket as the sun and the heat peaked, slipping away from his responsibilities to visit the traps he had reset the day before.

Even with the afternoon buzz of cicadas in the air and Audrey's vines tugging at him for food to be placed in its opened "jaws", Beck was hardly distracted at all as he went through the basic maintenance for every individual trap he checked up on. Only one measly rat with a split tail had been snagged by a conibear, long dead upon his arrival and reduced to carrion rotting in the baking sun. Pinching his nose closed as he freed the catch from the vicious metal frame used to kill it, the poltergeist was more than happy to dispose of it by tossing it into Audrey's waiting leaves. The fly trap didn't seem to mind rotten flesh at all, based upon how eagerly it shut its mouth to start digesting the rat. Picking up Audrey's bucket handle once more in his jaws when the conibear had been propped up again, Beck abandoned it to move onto the next trap: a leghold of his own design seated right next to the border.

Stalking through wilted brambles and dodging puddles of swamp water, the next on his list was thankfully close by. Setting Audrey down next to a knot of roots, the disheveled feline turned his back to stoop down next to the miniature bear trap, beginning to readjust it and fiddle with the trigger to make sure it was functioning -- all while the mutated plant blindly perked up as its tiny hairs sensed movement across the border.
