Venus was not an unfamiliar face to the boy responsible for recruiting her in the first place. Yet an overworked memory had a nasty habit of pushing aside older events and faces to make room for the latest. When the young feline vanished without a trace, Beck figured they had deserted the then newly-founded Tanglewood, much like everyone else present for when he gathered a troop of strangers and asked them to form a clan. It was a ridiculous concept back then, and he wouldn't blame Venus for leaving. Their name had all been erased from his mind not long after.
From afar, Venus was nothing more than a silver smudge to his farsighted eyes, distintively standing out from the dulled earthy colors of the overgrown town. While he had been planning on setting out to check on his traps, the forgotten scent combined with the unusual pelt color compared to his peers was enough to snag his attention. Was it a newcomer he wasn't aware of? Or had someone managed to break through their defenses? At that suggestion, Beck's previous composure shattered as instinct sent him into defense mode, a crazed look in his glare as he slunk towards the assumed threat.
It was only when he was a few feet behind Venus did recognition kick in, blurred eyesight finally able to discern the figure. The mangy little feline was taken aback for a nonexistent heartbeat, ears flattening to his head and eyes squinting at Venus before stretching to wide amber saucers. Oblivious to the chemical drool beginning to bead at the rim of scar tissue where half his snout should have been, Beck flopped back on his hauches to gawk, all signs of aggression ebbing away. "Ya came back," was all he managed to croak out, words lilting towards the end as if it was a question. Nobody ever came back to him, they always abandoned his sorry existence and left with little more than a goodbye. Beyond that, Beck remained eerily silent, shiny eyes glancing over at Venus' poor attempt at bandaging and making a mental note to send her off to Nayru later.
