It did not belong here. It belonged in a city serving the humans that created it. It belonged on the streets taking care of crime and creating a better city by assisting the police officers that it worked for. It did not belong in the wild. Technology that was simply left alone to the elements was due to rust and be forgotten in time. Without any other cities to help it, getting any sort of parts for itself was nearly impossible in the middle of nowhere. The android didn't want to have to think about what laid in its future, as its attention needed to be in the present in order to help its owner survive in such harsh and stressful conditions. One of the primary objectives that it was forced to follow while it served humans was to protect its owner at all costs and as well with other police officers that would be on the scene with them. It was technically just an advanced prototype that was released to the public, specifically the police department where it was used in detective work and to make sure that there were less K9 units lost during activity duty. Without the fear of having the android being killed in most interactions with criminals, it saved the lives of other animals and instead they were adopted out to regular families where they would live out their life. Having RK515 in the field also increased the survival rate of the police officers that it worked with. Thanks to its quick reaction time and deductive skills, it was able to take the brunt of attacks and nearly sacrifice itself to protect human life. It was instructed to do so, as it could always be repaired if it did get damaged and it wasn't capable of feeling pain either. The unit was mostly built for working within city limits, capable of accessing the internet and other networks of nearby organizations. It did have some all terrain features, but its creators did not anticipate their creation being stuck in the middle of nowhere for days on end. Luckily, it did not require all that much food, as it had a lowered metabolism, similar to that of a reptile. It was capable of going several days without eating, which was beneficial as it was not capable of hunting. When it was created, it was stripped of any instinct that was left in its body thanks to the brain implants that it had undergone. The only thing that RK515 knew about surviving in the wild came from the documentaries it would watch while its owner was asleep to get a better understanding of animals.

So far, it would much rather be back in a city conducting dangerous work than walking around trying to store as much data as it could, and it still did not acquire any sort of lead that could fix the problems that it and its owner found themselves in. One of those dangerous jobs RK515 had a memory of was when it and Hal were standing guard near an event to make sure that the citizens did not get out of hand. It was a protest from what the report that was filed read, and it was a peaceful protest. It was a group of workers that wanted better working environments. RK515 was requested to be on seen to make sure that it remained just that, peaceful. As the crowd began to gather, the android constantly made sure to scan the faces of the humans that it could gain sight of. The scanning allowed it access to each person's criminal records, name, date of birth, and occupation. There were some individuals that it saw out of the crowd that had past criminal records, but showed no sign of suspicion and had yet to commit a crime in years. RK515 did not arrest those individuals, but instead kept a close eye on each individual during the protest that could last as long as it really wanted to. RK515 took its job seriously, as there was nothing else that it was created for and pleasing its creators was beneficial for the project to become a success. Several hours past and nothing changed in the crowd, until approximately 0300 hours. It's scent receptors were able to catch the familiar smell of explosives, that caused the android to get up onto its legs and begin to track where the scent was coming from. The unit's sense of smell was greater than that of an average K9 unit. It was armed with metal teeth in case any criminal had any body armor, allowing the K9 unit to still inflict large amounts of damage. The small android was immediately able to identify where the smell was coming from, and it was coming from a man that was in the back of the crowd.

The human's behavior wasn't a means for concern, but there were still explosives on his person and he would be arrested for harboring a lethal weapon. RK515 did not wait for Hal's command to apprehend the man, as there were too many bystanders around to risk waiting for an actual confrontation. The android sprinted toward the man, and in a couple of seconds, the man was able to see the android unit running toward him. The sight of an animal sprinting toward one triggers a fight or flight response, and this man decided to fight as he began to reach into his coat for a weapon. RK515 was far from normal, and this meant that the android was on top of the man before it could take out the weapon he was reaching for. RK515 remembers latching its jaws onto the shoulder of the human, causing the man to fall down onto its back. This caused screams in the crowd at the seemingly random attack. RK515 could hear Hal behind it barking orders for the criminal to follow, having his gun drawn in case the man tried to do anything. The Eurasian timber wolf did not stop what it was doing until eventually, it heard a click. Luckily, the sudden attack caused the crowd to move a significant distance away. An explosion rang out, and its body was thrown across the concrete. It was not capable of feeling pain, but several warnings flared up in its visions. It was still partly organic, and that meant it did have a form of blood pumping through its legs and other mechanical parts. The unit RK515 did not know the damage to its body until the day after the explosion happened. It had ended up losing its right leg and suffered shrapnel damage from the explosion. There were no casualties and nearby citizens only suffered minor injuries. The android had accomplished one of its goals and it received a new limb and new instructions to follow.

The android was designed to learn and adapt to situations in the field. This was one of the few reasons why the android was currently successful in its environment. It had managed to find a civilization of animals, which had been called a clan by those that lived there. Never having interacted with other animals before, and strictly with humans, it found out that all animals were capable of forms of communication with each other. RK515 could speak different languages, but it was never able to communicate with humans during its time with active duty. An unfortunate event in the case that they were working on was the last event that RK515 had the memory of before arriving in this strange environment. The android was positive that they were still on Earth, but without its means of communication that it used to have, it was impossible to get into contact with humans unless it physically came into contact with them. The place that RK515 had been investigating called themselves the Pitt. They said that they were at war with another group, but that wasn't an issue for the former K9 unit and the former human that traveled together. There was nothing in its programming that meant it was to save the life of an animal, and only humans, so it made no attempt to help those that were injured or struggling. If it wasn't found in its programming, it wasn't capable of doing such actions unless specifically ordered by those that were embedded in its code, such as Hal. The reason why it wanted to investigate the Pitt, was because the location held temples that were obviously constructed by humans. Most landmarks such as that were hot spots for tourists to come and look. Yet, when it investigated the temples, there was only signs of animal activity and not human. It was a struggle as it meant the android wasn't producing results, and this leads to negative feedback in its head. It needed to find an answer somewhere. The small lupine was walking through a somewhat dense forest. Occasionally, the creature could be seen stopping, and looking around. Its right mechanical eye was a shade of yellow as it scanned all the different plants in the area, using its enhanced senses that it was programmed with to try and find signs of human life in a forest. There was a potential chance that in the forest it would come across hunters, but there was a slim chance of that. RK515 moved with calculated movements and did not express any emotion on its face as it moved. Its white mechanical legs making the Eurasian timber wolf stand out from the green environment.

It wasn't too hard for him to come to the fact that he had been banished. He felt that it was unjust, of course, but he should have seen it coming and it probably should have happened much sooner rather than now. When Machiavelli opened his stunning bright amber eyes to see a world he was utterly new and lost in, he lifted himself up and slammed his paws against the ground, a string of Italian curses flying from his mouth. Machiavelli knew he was keener than most of his supernatural species. He wouldn't doubt something was different about him, but couldn't they see past that? No, they were all as superstitious as a group of old hags.

"Machiavelli has committed treason of the highest order." The shrill voice of the lead spirit, named Alce, rang again through his head. "Treason?" Machiavelli had hissed, humiliated beyond belief as this had happened in the presence of many other spirits and he had walked into this meeting unprepared for such an accusation. "I should like to see you give one good instance of my treachery." Alce had turned his eery ice blue eyes toward him and spoke calmly. "If the omens surrounding the time and location of your birth aren't good enough, we have evidence of you fraternizing with the enemy." Now, this was a bit of a tough spot. Machiavelli's species did not have an aligned view of morality. Individuals ran on their own interests, much like the humans and history they were sworn to protect, or to destroy and manipulate. Alce's little formation operated on the idea that the historical relics and guardianship should belong to those of sound and good-hearted mind, so they worked to eliminate the evil-oriented spirits.

The issue with Machiavelli was that he supposedly let an evil spirit flee unscathed back in the 1940s. That was the story the others were fed and that was the story they were going to hear. No matter how Machiavelli tried to convince them otherwise, this was the blood in the water that they had all been waiting for since they had gotten wind of the unnatural situations surrounding his creation. He had been born in the sixteenth century, while the rest of them had been born much later, around the time of the founding of Rome. He had also been born in the Ottoman Empire instead of on the Italian peninsula. A Turkish merchant had gifted him to his good friend, a Venetian merchant. That was when he was named. Naming was a bit strange as when they reincarnated, humans were bound to give them different names, but to the others, they were known as one name. Some of them chose it themselves, others used names that a favorite human gave them, and Machiavelli was of the latter.

The first thing he realized was that he was given a body that was already an adult. The fact that he was a dog did not surprise him, as that was the typical physical form the spirits used.  Most of the time, he would be reincarnated as a puppy so he was grateful that he had skipped those months already. He also realized that he was in his beloved Anatolian shepherd form and he was definitely sure he would keep this one. The next thing he realized was that he was starving. It felt as if his corporal form hadn't eaten in months. Machiavelli's tongue swept feverishly across his lips as he sought nourishment. However, the first thing that he came across was nothing edible at all. A strange mechanical creature resembling mostly a sort of canine it seemed, was walking around the forest. Machiavelli bent his knees and crouched, debating on what action to take. He had never seen such a thing, but despite that, he wasn't fascinated by it. Machines were quite common nowadays -- usually they meant the presence of humans and if Machiavelli could find a human right now, that would be absolutely splendid. So he waited and observed RK515 quietly.

It was specifically designed not to make any serious mistakes since its creation. Mistakes would lead to disapproval, and it was designed to only appease humans, and if it failed that it received negative feedback in the form of static from its functions. Anything that it wasn't supposed to do, was immediately logged in its brain implant and sent to its creators as a report. Then, after a couple of days, another report would be sent if the action or 'thoughts' continued, and it would be asked to be returned for maintenance. The last thing that the human race wanted was a machine to start thinking for itself without any regulation and go against their human counterparts. There were thousands of different movies that depicted machines rising up against their creators. The most common machines that were used in cities were for convenience and had regular coding. Very few machines in production had AI systems that allowed the machine to learn and adapt to new situations. Most could simply notice patterns based on what a human was doing and conform to those patterns, such as a unit responding to human speech and remembering something that a human bought before and recommending it next time that they wanted to buy something. It was a simple code that could be written into the machine, and they were not as advanced as it was. It was capable of logging into different networks and communication lines. This could mean that if it started to go against its human creators that it would be able to access information and other important documents and passwords to use against them. Its creators made sure to put firewalls and other restrictions on its systems that itself couldn't access even if it tried. If it did try, the company would be alerted and would immediately be put into action. They were trying to sell the unit as a product to the public and show how advanced the technology was and how it would help them in everyday life. The company couldn't afford to have the public panic if the machine suddenly devised a mind for itself and no longer followed human orders. Since its creation, RK515 was told over and over again vocally that it was to serve humans and to never take a human life. This type of brainwashing made it so that the android believed humans to be of higher authority and should not be questioned when given an order unless it contradicted with one of its own objectives. RK515's own AI system was not the AI that was present when it worked with the humans, and instead, an AI that was designated as Maria was also installed as a backup plan each time RK515 did anything it was not supposed to. If the android did something wrong, Maria would deliver feedback that would change RK515's actions, while also telling what the android could do to be more helpful toward humans. Basically, Maria kept RK515 in check and in line and deleted any thoughts that should not be there and rewrite its coding if there was a malfunction or glitch that would appear.

Unit RK515 did not enjoy failing or disappointing humans. Of course, it wasn't technically able to feel, but instead, it knew that if it succeeded it would be rewarded in some way. Back when it worked with humans it usually was rewarded with a type of upgrade that would make its job a lot easier in the field. When it was first created, it didn't have all that many functions other than the AI and its metal limb. Performing so many different surgeries and modifications to a living animal put a lot of stress onto the organic matter, and eventually, it needed to be fitted with a pacemaker to keep it alive. The next improvement was the eye replacement that it still had to this day. This allowed the unit to scan individuals in real-time and pull up records from the police department records. Then the eye itself was upgraded to be able to look at the vitals of each human that would cross its path and scan their behavior. Next came the upgrade to its mouth, as its teeth were replaced with metal and no longer were bone. This upgrade was given to the K9 unit because the scientists soon learned that criminals had a wide range of gear, and to be able to get through some types of armor, its teeth would need an upgrade. The last upgrade was to the creature's blood, as it was injected with different chemicals that would make it so that its body would rust its mechanical parts a lot faster. The injections ended up turning its blood completely blue, making it seem more machine than an actual animal. This upgrade was certainly shocking to Hal when RK515 acquired an injury for the first time after the injections. After receiving all the current technology, it was no longer upgraded in fear that it would end up deactivating it because there were too many mechanical components that could pose problems in the future. The company made it obvious that RK515 was an important asset and a pinnacle in human creation that needed to be preserved as long as possible. The unit also knew that after its production, other creations were starting to be planned after it, but this only happened around 3 years after its creation. RK515 only realized that this was happening when it read an article online that the company had received funding for another project, and it was then that it was told that it would no longer be receiving upgrades. It would eventually be replaced, and it wasn't capable of having an opinion by itself, and therefore did not feel betrayed that it would just be tossed aside when the other more promising model was created.

RK515 did not know what it meant to be betrayed. It knew the instigation behind the word, as it had happened when they were dealing with criminals. The police department would ask them who they were working for, and the criminal either did not answer them or quickly betrayed those that they were working for or with. In this strange place, RK515 had limited functions, but the most important ones were still in contact. It did not have access to the internet anymore or any communication networks. Its GPA device also did not work so it did not know their exact coordinates on Earth. It was still capable of scanning individuals and still had its vast knowledge databanks at its disposal. It still worked beyond 50% efficiency. Luckily, its enhanced senses still worked, allowing it to still retain the notion of being a detective unit to solve crimes and collect data to use in finding solutions. The android felt like it was running out of time, feeling Maria in the back of its mind as if it was being faced with a clock that was ticking down to its own destruction. It did not have any feeling if it were to become destroyed, instead, it was more worried about the Lieutenant. No. It couldn't be worried. It was just trying to fill its objective. RK515's yellow eye continued to scan the area, and its black ears remained on a swivel as it received auditory data from the surrounding data. Other than the sound of birds chirping in the distance, the forested area remained fairly quiet. It was several minutes later that the canine heard something that was interesting. The sound of a heartbeat and something breathing, coming from a distance not too far from where it was currently. RK515 did not look in that direction and investigated the nearby area first to make sure it was an accurate reading of an organism that was nearby it. It could not see the creature that was making the noise, and eventually, RK515's head turned in the direction of where it could hear Machiavelli breathing. The stance that the K9 unit took straightened out, but it did not seem to express any regular animal body language and seemed entirely mechanical. As it looked in the direction, its right eye soon began to turn a shade of blue. There was a chance that the creature that was hiding was actively hunting the Eurasian timber wolf, but if that was the case it was at a distance far enough that it could react fast enough to defend itself. "Hello, I am Unit RK515. Are you an organic organism that possesses sentience?" The voice did not sound completely natural, and in fact, it sounded almost like a robotic voice. Its voice was deeper and obviously male in origin. There was no tone to its voice, and there was no emotion that was expressed in its facial features.

Machines had changed a lot. Machiavelli did not exactly pay too much attention to them as the years rolled by, but he knew progress had definitely advanced, and even more so in recent years. It used to be a long trek from a certain city to another certain city, but now loud metal flying machines made the trips so much easier and safer. He remembered faintly how the weapons of the world developed, and even warfare had undergone a change. Things were so much bloodier and destructive with each decade.

When the wolf android spoke, Machiavelli was aware that this was a piece of technology that was further advanced than anything he had seen on his earth. Obviously. But he could not shake the feeling that there must be some sort of living animal underneath. Feeling sympathy wasn't an emotion that frequently crossed his mind, but if this creature really was living, or had been living at some point, it must have been a great sacrifice. Machiavelli could not exactly fathom giving up his biological life in place of a mechanical one, even if his senses and skills would be enhanced. To be reduced into carrying out commands seemed rather restricting.

"It would seem so." Machiavelli answered, slowly raising himself from his crouching position, but keeping his distance. Just as a machine, the creature had a name based on a string of letters and numbers -- randomized or not Machiavelli could not tell. "My name is Machiavelli." He responded crisply. If he was perturbed at the notion of conversing with a piece of machine, he made no indication of it. But obviously, in his five hundred years of life, there was no way he could have seen himself doing this. This canine-like creature was the first contact he had made within this world so far. It would have been nice to stumble upon another flesh-and-blood like himself, but Machiavelli was used to his terrible fortune by now.

"Now, since you have asked me a question, I get to ask one to you, RK515. Where are you from?" He cut himself off just before he launched into a second question of "what is this place". He wouldn't say it in front of the robot (well, he was sure the robot wouldn't have feelings, but it was a force of habit to be somewhat polite to strangers - as you could never tell if one would be a friend or foe) but he wished he hadn't been banished to a world where cyborgs roamed the earth. The very nature of him was to protect the relics of humanity, of life. As far as he could tell, machines had no life. Therefore, he was not interested in what RK515 was or how he worked, but rather his background. Machiavelli was sure an animal could not have made something like this -- they should not dare manipulate one of their own into a series of code. Even sentient animals probably would be physically unable to complete a project such as this.

RK515 did not have a choice in whether or not it wanted to be made into a machine that would eventually serve humans. In fact, its creation was certainly difficult as the scientists had to make a design choice. Attempting to do conduct the experiments on regular dogs proved lethal as the bodies could not handle the stress that they were put under. So, they turned to the animals that dogs were descendent from, as wild animals were hardier and could go through more punishment than domesticated animals in most cases. Its body had nearly been dead, on the last legs of its life. The conservation area that held a wolf pack did not believe that the animal would be able to survive and was willing to donate its body toward science, and the conservation was offered a large sum of money to deliver the corpse to the facility in a nearby city. The conservation had been correct in its assumption that the small runt wouldn't be able to survive the harsh conditions compared to the rest of the pack that it belonged to. Once it was delivered to the facility, the humans began to train and heal the animal to the point where surgery would become possible. It was during this process that brain surgery was conducted, and it was from that moment on it felt as if the android had just woken up. The only reason why RK515 knew about any of this was because of the article and files that were downloaded into its interface a year after its creation. Currently, it had no memory of the life that it once left, and the only actual memories that it carried was waking up in the lab where it was created. Thanks to the brain implants, they manipulated its memory and its emotions, making it completely complacent and obedient to every command that was given toward it. At first, the scientists took the process slow in case the animal could not handle the stress to its body. The runt was a fighter and continued to show promise after each surgery. It was only after the introduction of the AI chips that RK515 started to feel strange, not used to having so many different functions but also a voice in the back of its head that was not it's own. The AI had a complete way of taking control of its body if it did an action that was not within a protocol or within regulation. Or, if it ended up becoming a detriment to humans that were in the area. Similar to that of a shock collar, the AI Maria was capable of distributing small electrical shocks through the android's body to express displeasure in an action, and the android would immediately change its behavior to suit the situation better. It was punished several times during the early tests on its capabilities, and once it was released into the field it rarely needed to have its actions as much. Because of the manipulation that the canine went through, it did not think about whether it preferred having mechanical appendages or being completely organic. It wasn't allowed to think on its own.

When it came to the knowledge that it had on technology, it seemed to excel compared to the animals that existed in these parts. With the advancement of human technology, it was easy to see as they evolved and how the cities shifted themselves to show exactly that. Buildings were more advanced and some were considered to be 'green' and not produce as much pollution in the air. It was almost ironic that when the unit was released outside for the first time, it was able to calculate the different pollutants that were in the air and how horrible pollution was in the city that it was stationed in. Smaller robots were created as a means of toys, and there were some facilities that would use robots as waiters or waitresses so that they would not need to hire humans to do the work. One did not need to pay a robot a salary because there were no laws stating that they would to as most robots did not have a form of sentience and were pre-programmed with responses. Vehicles were starting to drive themselves based on the coding that was found in their motherboards, allowing for fewer traffic accidents found within the city limits. Computers could run faster than ever before, and there had even been a small computer that was inside of the units head at one point before it was scrapped for a brain implant. Holograms were in steady develop from humans, although their creation was far from perfect and still in the prototype stages. Better prosthetic limbs were available to humans that could pay the steep prices. At the time of its creation, Unit RK515 was the most technologically advanced creation in human history. In this area though, technology seemed to rarely exist. In fact, the android had yet to even hear a plane or helicopter overhead. It was not used to just hearing birds, as the environment was created for had plenty of white noise, humans talking, and the sound of cars driving down the street. Everything felt too quiet and still, and whenever this happened it was usually meant for concern inside of a city. The assumption that the unit had about the creatures sentience seemed to be confirmed when it spoke in response to its question. The canine stood up from its hiding spot, and as soon as it did so, the android's right eye immediately began to swirl a yellow color as it began to scan the dog.

RK515 made sure to log the canines name in its databanks in case it ever came across the Anatolian shepherd again. From this distance, it was able to fairly calculate that the animal was a little bit bigger than it was. This was not a surprise as its size was certainly tiny despite belonging to one of the largest breeds of wolf. In its documents, it said that it had been a runt, and this was more of a factor now than ever. Although, this did not mean it was in any way weak. It had already had an interaction with a tiger already, a concerning interaction to say the least as the much larger wildcat could have easily torn the android apart if it had really wanted to. RK515 shifted itself so that it was fully facing the canine, all of its attention drawn toward the stranger. RK515 listened calmly to the question of the creature as to where it came from, and that was a question that RK515 could answer. "Nice to make you acquaintance Machiavelli. I am from a city designed at the coordinates 42.3314° N, 83.0458° W. I am an advanced K9 prototype created by Cyberlife, its headquarters located inside the city limits." The answer that it gave was formulated, and its phrasing was simple protocol. There was a small pause after answering in a technological manner before questioning the larger canine in front of it. "My current mission is looking for signs of human activity so that I may continue on completing the objectives I was meant to fill. Do you know of any human cities in this nearby area?" It needed something. Anything. A clue, a lead, it could work with any clue that it was given. It needed to show some promise that it could still function in these harsh conditions, and it needed to figure out how to fix Lieutenant Hal.

He really shouldn't be so surprised that he was given such a straightforward answer. Much straightforward than what he was expecting. He almost forgot he was talking to an android. Back in his home world, Machiavelli had a great sense of location. His type was known for teleporting (the concentrated teleportation powers of Alce and his group must have been enough to banish him into a whole new universe) and it wasn't hard for Machiavelli to figure out his coordinates. It was useful for them being mythical creatures tasked with guarding history. However, there was a catch. Machiavelli didn't memorize coordinates. They weren't stored in his brain ready to be pulled out. His memory was used for much more useful things - like historical events and timelines. It was slightly different ... He used powers to sense coordinates. He couldn't apply these coordinates to this world because he had zero experience of the whole terrain. And, since he was no longer physically in his own world, he didn't have the atmosphere needed to sense it. His brow furrowed in frustration at this. He really thought he was on to something here, to be foiled because he could not bother to memorize them. Well, then again, I never thought I'd ever have to. He reminded himself, feeling a bitter sting at the memory of his banishment which had only happened a few hours ago.

By now Machiavelli was becoming comfortable around the android. He began to take a few steps closer to RK515, neck outstretched and nostrils flaring to catch the scent. It wasn't much different from what he was expecting a machine to have, but he still was curious. He had noticed that the wolf's eye changed color and it had become silent. It must have scanned me. Machines do that, don't they? Obviously, the Anatolian shepherd could not make much of an inference from this great of a difference so he edged closer. His body language was rightfully passive. Though he was larger, he knew to underestimate your opponent was a deadly game of risk. From what he could tell, the android would be neutral as long as he would be neutral to it. Easy enough. He wondered what they would think of him now, trying to find company in a being driven by code.

"Unfortunately, I just got here. I don't know anything." Usually, like with location, he could sense human beings. The beating of their hearts was very loud and unmistakable. But he could hear no hearts now. He wondered if he ever would again. Machiavelli was a pack animal, and rightfully so. Despite how difficult he was to work with others, he knew the strength in numbers was key and he really did value good comradeship with his partners. If he was alone for long, he'd surely lose his mind. "From where I came from, there were humans everywhere, but I don't think that information is helpful ... as I seem to have no way of getting back home." He was beginning to wonder if his ill-fated creation really was a mark of misfortune for the rest of his life.

The android had extensive knowledge of human cities and their exact locations on where they were located on Earth. This was necessary for working with the Police Department in case a wanted criminal crossed state borders. From that point on it was up to the nearby state officers to deal with the water criminal as it was beyond their jurisdiction. There were also several different locations of where it had been created, although the main headquarters was in the city where it was released to the public. At this point, it wouldn't be a shock to know that there was probably a better version than the current unit that was created as a means to replace it. It could easily be replaced. It was expendable, and it knew that its fate would either be shut down or be drained of energy and be left in a state of stasis for the rest of its active duty. Either way, the city that it was stationed in wasn't the worst city in existence, but it still had plenty of its own problems. Crime and drug use were high in the edges of the city where there were fewer cops and poverty were higher in those areas. It was these areas where RK515 was used as a means of tracking down drugs and used in detective cases. The detective cases usually formulated around murder, or find a place that used to manufacture drugs and finding the people responsible for the establishment. The android was fitted with means of tracking footprints and scents that could lead away from each area. It could also test bodily fluids in the field and figure out who the bodily fluids belonged to. It was there that it would be able to create a simulation in its head to figure out exactly what happened before they had arrived on the scene. During its active duty in the city for five years, RK515 had a success rate of 95%. There were some cases where it certainly didn't go as planned and often resulted in the unit almost being severely damaged. Such as Case #57, earlier on it what could be called its career. The Lieutenant and RK515 were instructed to investigate a house that was already cleared from the warrant, but rumors said that there were still occupants. Upon investigating, they did not originally find anything until they made a second sweep. Despite all the chemicals and drugs that clogged its nose, it was able to pick out a scent that belonged to that of a human. Ultimately, it resorted in the man throwing a chemical at the K9 Unit resulted in the melting of several mechanical and organic components. Thanks to its programming, it did not register any form of pain, but warnings were displayed in its vision tell it of the chemical damage that was destroying its outer shell. The android immediately attacked the man that attacked it, as it was registered as a police officer and an assault against it was breaking the law. RK515 managed to detain the man long enough for the Lieutenant to cuff the man. It was after the android removed itself from on top of the man that it realized it wasn't capable of moving one of its limb, the melted metal starting to solidify from the contact with the chemical. Trying to identify the contents of the chemical were dangerous for its organic mouth. Seeing that his partner could no longer move, the Lieutenant quickly scooped the canine in his arms and immediately drove to the nearest Cyberlife headquarters to make sure that the K9 didn't die from blood loss.

To work in any city had its dangers. The bigger the population, the larger the gathering of humans that had criminal records. This did not stop RK515 however, as it continued to do the best that it could do and as efficient as possible. In its programming, it wasn't allowed to waste human time or resources, and so it couldn't afford to waste a moment. Although, the Lieutenant certainly did not feel the same way considering that the man much preferred to remain asleep most days instead of heading to work. Compared to humans the android didn't have to worry about sleep as much as they did, as most of its energy came from the mechanical components within its body. This did not mean that smaller towns weren't capable of having humans commit serious crimes either, as there were several cases of homicide at the very edges of towns where a human was hoping to catch a victim. There were times where both it and the Lieutenant didn't have to go out into the field and were stuck in the Police Department looking at paperwork or trying to find a case to work on. The two did not work on every case that came into the door as most of them were easier to handle, the hard part was finding a case that would usually prove to a challenge to regular officers. This would mean that RK515's presence would ultimately help the case and solve it quicker than a human possibly could. Sometimes RK515 would be stuck in the police department sitting down and not moving for several hours if it had nothing to do. The police officers that worked there were still wary of the android, but there were some that would occasionally pass by and offer to pet its head. It couldn't feel the sensation of hands running through its fur, but it could feel the steady pressure that came from someone laying their hands on it. RK515 did not enjoy those days, as it felt as if there was something that it could be doing, those days made it feel lazy. RK515 had no intention of replicating its owner's habits in being lazy and not getting work done. The unit was more than capable of walking around the police officer's office, but after having done that during its first couple of days on the job, he had memorized the building and it would learn nothing from walking around aimlessly. Besides, the movement causes its energy to go down significantly and it didn't want to waste it in case they got called out for something urgent. In some instances, the Lieutenant would get bored, and 'play' with RK515. It was designed to work harmoniously with humans, and learning what humans wanted in a dog was one of those features. It knew how to play fetch and do different tricks, although seeing the android do them was rare and far between as it seemed a waste of potential for the highly advanced machine. The Lieutenant kept a small rubber ball at his desk and occasionally would throw it for RK515 to fetch. It wasn't capable of really refusing commands from its owner and did as it was instructed of it. The android would make quick work of the ball, thanks to its metal teeth, forcing its owner to constantly buy more toys because of how quickly they were destroyed. Rounds of fetch would only last around thirty minutes before the Lieutenant returned to his work and RK515 returned to sitting next to the man's desk.

It had some form of hope that it would find at least some answer to its questions, or that anyone would know anything about the humans that lived in the nearby areas. There were signs of them, but all the scents were stale. RK515's own scent was certainly an interesting combination. It smelled of the Pitt, but also smelled metallic and clean. Somewhat like a dog that had just been washed. If anyone had been to a hospital or a clean lab before, that was also an accurate depiction of how the android smelled. RK515's attention did not move away from the Anatolian shepherd as it grew closer. Nothing passed under RK515's radar as it could visibly see more relaxation of the animal's muscle as it approached. Hearing at the canine did not know anything, there was no visible change on the outside of the android. However, RK515 could feel a small amount of pressure inside of its chest, and its heart rate steadily increasing. It was failing. It couldn't be failing. It was an advanced android that had so much success in its work. Not all of that could end here. It wasn't supposed to become a wild animal. RK515 tried to run a self-diagnosis as to why its body was reacting the way that it was before Maria made its mind filled with static and the action having been erased from its queue. After having identified the animal that was in front of it, the android makes sure to use its enhanced senses to acquire the animal's vitals.

Once all the data that it could collect on a physical standpoint was done, its right eye seemed to swirl to a blue color. The pause happened again as it listened to what the animal had to say before finally responding. "That is unfortunate." RK515 spoke in a tone that almost sounded disappointed that the Anatolian shepherd didn't have any important information in regard to human cities nearby. Although, this could be the trick of the ears as the android wasn't capable of feeling emotion. But maybe it would have other useful information that it could get out of the canine. From Machiavelli's explanation, it sounded like they were in similar situations. RK515 didn't know if it was possible for it and the Lieutenant to travel back to the city that they once called their home. Even then, the former human was now in the form of a dog, and RK515 had yet to find a solution to that predicament. "Where are you from exactly?" RK515 questioned again before it came to a realization. "What do you mean that you had just arrived here? Were you sedated and transported here? Or did an owner abandon you nearby?" RK515 was not capable of understanding how its words could affect others, and simply ask the questions as it came to them. The android seemed to full of questions, as it was designed to be curious so that it could fill in as much data as it needed. It also allowed the machine to get a better understanding of the world around it.

Machiavelli's ear flicked backward and his eyes flashed warily as he was given more questions to answer. Perhaps he could not blame the android -- as he had been rather vague in his words, but he was still treading unfamiliar grounds. This world was very different than the one he lived in. His powers couldn't work and he could not think of a solution to get himself out of this. He was painfully confused as to why RK515 was questioning him as if he were a pet. Not many animals were sentient from where he was from. The other pet dogs had none of his advanced intelligence, so he was a little surprised to hear something asking him questions as if they were a pet dog that had just gained sentience and thought he was one of their own.

Machiavelli would not let himself be owned by anyone. He was bound by loyalties of community.

Then, he had to realize he was not in his world and RK515 would not be familiar with his kind. It would be difficult to explain. Perhaps he could just go off the notion that he was an ordinary mortal dog. Was the android capable of detecting lies? The Anatolian Shepherd had taken note that the wolf's robotic eye had changed colors again. He weighed his options carefully, turning it over in his mind. If he did lie, what story should he use?

His first "owner" had been the Venetian merchant Giacomo Vitturi. Machiavelli vividly remembered his first meeting with the man. Hamzah had handled the puppy with care, for Giacomo was a very dear friend. Machiavelli felt very comfortable during the journey and had only known kind hands. Giacomo had a lightweight frame and his hands were those of an artisan's. "When I said 'dog', I was thinking of those small greyhounds they have down in Naples!" Giacomo had exclaimed with a loud laugh as he placed his hands on either side of the Anatolian's large face and lifted his head to study his ears and nose. "But you've brought me a real military advisor, a Machiavelli. Machiavelli hm? Look at him, he looks like a Florentine to you, doesn't he?" Giacomo continued good-heartedly, tapping Machiavelli on the nose and causing him to go cross-eyed. Out of all the humans he had watched, Giacomo Vitturi was his favorite. Machiavelli would frequently accompany him on journeys and faithfully guarded his home from burglars and thieves. 13 years later, Machiavelli died of a seizure and woke up to discover that he was no ordinary dog, but a mythical creature cursed with reincarnation and a strong fascination for historical relics and events. Alce had managed to harnass that energy into something good. Machiavelli was now devoted to the cause of defending the natural order of things.

He thought about the times he had walked alongside the soldiers in the Great War, acting as their unofficial mascot and unbeknownst to them, their protector against the evil spirits. But he could not quite find any comfort in them as he had with Giacomo Vitturi. "From another world. I was betrayed by other members of my species and sent here, I suppose, as punishment for the false accusation they laid against me. I know humans because I am a tutelary spirit of Italian history and I have walked beside them for a long time." He did not seem to mind if the android would not understand his own mission and history, but when he thinks of a robot, the feeling of betrayal wasn't something he'd attribute to it. But perhaps RK515 would know something about law and justice -- the K9 vest he wore was a hopeful sign.

He was interrupted from his thoughts by a low rumbling in his stomach. He had forgotten his hunger. "I don't suppose you know where any food is, do you?"

RK515 had knowledge of myths and legends in human cultures. The only reason it had acquired this knowledge to get a better understanding of human culture and what they could potentially fear in the future based on what they had heard in stories. Some of the stories that the android had researched had been primarily for children but did have some morals that were tied into the stories that were used to teach young children. The big bad wolf, the fox and the grapes, and other little fables that it was able to read during the downtime it had in the police department. It also knew of mythical creatures that were talked about in some stories, such as dragons, fairies, etc. However, RK515 believed all of these to be simple stories and nothing more as there was no evidence to be able to prove that it was real. The Bible even talked about heaven and hell and a being that watched over their creation and that they could be saved with miracles from that divine being. Angels, Demons, none of those existed because if they did it went against all logic and no one had openly seen any of those before. It simply did not make sense to an android that was built and run by code instead of an independent mind of its own. Although it could almost be hypocritical as the humans that created it, RK515 seemed to treat them like such divine beings like a God. They had created it and brought it to the existence, but it also was not alive. It could never be considered alive, as machines were only objects to be used for convenience. Ghosts and ghouls were commonly found in foreign stories in which ghosts could mean the end of a life if they came into contact with someone. Ghouls eating the living and eating the dead along with them. Some stories were meant to strike fear in children in a means for the parents to keep their children in check. From the reactions that the children did have to the writing, it certainly did seem to accomplish its job. Then, of course, there were regular books that were written that depicted the end of mankind by the hands of machines. RK515 sought approval from the human race because if it did acquire approval, it would mean that it was doing its job correctly, and it would be met with positive feedback from Maria. Again in its coding, the android did not believe that animal life needed to be saved. If anything, they were lesser creatures than humans were, and their life was not equivalent to them either. Animals that could potentially be in danger would not be saved, as it was not instructed to help animals, and only help humans. Of course, this could be overridden by a command from a human or an owner and it would carry out that order till it failed or accomplished the command.

Anything illogical that did happen would appear as an error in the androids coding. This usually resulted in Maria conducting a small purge through the canine's mind to right itself back to its original state. The K9 Unit seemed to listen intently to what the canine had to speak, but it was immediately fraught with confusion at the creature's words. Another world? Spirit? Both of those were impossible. Machiavelli did not make ṡ̴̘͚̜̃̆̋ͅę̵̧̤͍̳͊̓̂̿͂n̴̬̞̱͒̈͜s̸̡̯̔͒̑e̷̡̻̝̫̱͝. Maybe there was something wrong inside of the mind of the dog, and this was why it was saying such things. Maybe it had gone insane from long travels and dwelled into insanity along the way. RK515's system needed to find a concrete answer to why the creature would either make up the story or believe that it was the truth. The android scanned the heartbeat of the creature again, having learned in the police department that one that lied usually had an increase in heart rate if they weren't used to lying. However, there was no significant change in Machiavelli's heart rate at all, and it remained exactly the same. That again didn't make sense, because it couldn't be true. This time instead of turning back to being blue again, the eye remained yellow as it began to speak. "I am sorry Machiavelli, but other worlds do not exist unless you mean the continents on Earth. Spirits also do not exist. Is there a chance that you may have suffered any blunt trauma to your cranium in the past couple of days?" RK515 spoke in a blunt manner as it usually did. It never took animal emotions into consideration when it did speak. Now, if the android was dealing with a human, its approach would have been different as not to anger the human as it wasn't supposed to be a nuisance. However, the part of someone being betrayed did stick out to the android. Could animals be betrayed? He did not know of any documentation of animals betraying one another, or at least in its databanks it didn't. "How is an animal capable of betraying another animal?" It seemed to be a genuine question that the android did not seem to know. It only knew of betrayal in humans and did not think that animals were capable of doing exactly the same. In fact, when it asked the question, the Eurasian timber wolf seemed to tilt its head like a puppy would, in a curious manner. Its audio receivers easily heard the growl of the animal's stomach. Its mechanical eye did not return to blue again as it waited for an answer that would explain why Machiavelli came up with an answer to its previous question. Having yet to need to hunt for food, and in fact, it wasn't capable of killing another life based on its coding, it did not know how to hunt. That that didn't mean it couldn't locate animals nearby. Its head did not seem to turn as it listened into the area around it before it heard a familiar noise. "I currently have no access to food. Unit RK515's are programmed with a slow metabolism that allows for several weeks without nutritional consumption. However, there is a large hare approximately 10ft from our current location. I can show you the location specifically if you wish." RK515 did not seem to care as it described how it worked to other individuals. It was part of its programming, and it allowed for anyone it interacted with to gather a better understanding of how it worked.
