Wandering, looking, waiting for any stranger to happen along his path and commence the usual joining process one went through. Although he believed in nothing as far as higher beings go, fate must have driven him to see the graying clouded leopard pad up.
The rest was history.
All he knew - all they knew - all... who was he anymore? He couldn't remember for a moment, the blackness in his eyes drowning out all sense of logic that sought to occupy the space between his ears. The leopon shifted upwards, forcing himself into an upright position, before falling back down again. The clouded leopard's body had all but gone limp in his grasp (how had he gotten there? he didn't recall picking him up) and he dropped the lifeless thing, dizzy and suddenly very, very weak. No. No. He had not read about this - no paragraph of writing could have helped him resist the pull of his mind, the merging of two long-lost souls. It was not too long before he felt completely different. Fuzzy from the paws up, black butterflies fluttering into his field of view, creeping up until completely consuming his vision.
And then he collapsed, out like a light. His body convulsed along the forest floor, sparks of uncontrollable energy flying from his pelt as his tight-grip on his powers went loose like a water hose.
