Her paws carried her along the more dry spots she could find, trying her best to keep from getting herself too covered in muck. She wasn't someone who dealt well with looking disheveled, always wanting to be pristine and presentable to those around her. It just wouldn't do to make bad impressions, nor would it do if she wasn't taken seriously because of her appearance. So, yes, she took careful, broad steps, keeping as steady as she always was.

Her gaze flicked toward Aya, who had offered to give her a tour. She hadn't really formed a solid opinion of the other cat, yet, but she definitely wasn't bothered by her. If anything, she seemed entertaining to be around.

"What is the best place in the territory, in your opinion?" she found herself asking, actually genuinely interested in the answer. There had to be someplace relatively nice somewhere, and she'd be delighted to see it. She just hoped that Aya liked calm, relaxing spaces as much as she did. She couldn't really see herself loving forests of fire and ash or anything like that, and she hoped that wasn't the kind of attraction they had hidden here. "Or the best place to hunt." Yes, hunting would also be more up to her speed.

[div style="margin: 0 auto; width: 55%; font-family: arial; font-size: 11pt; text-align: justify;"]Aya walked a little ahead of Ophelia - not enough to be ignoring her, but enough to be taking the lead. Her steps was excited, claws clacking against the ground. "Well, I like my lab, but if you're into climbing the trees can be really relaxing to hang out in, and it gives you the edge on joiners or enemies." Aya could relax, sure, but she didn't like idly sitting around. "If you like to read, there's a library, too."

At Ophelia's next question, the tortoiseshell considered for a moment. "I'm not much of a hunter," she started, "so I really couldn't say. Sorry!"

"I'm not exactly into climbing trees, though being in them is nice. The wings cancel out most of my work for me." she answered. She hadn't really done much reading in her life, usually too busy with survival, but... Reading might be nice, actually, if she had the time for it. Easily brushing off the hunting thing as something she could ask someone else, she walked onward.

"You said you have a lab. What do you research? Is your research related to all the questions on my wings and how they're built and how they mutated? If so, that clears up a little confusion on my part." she said. Though she was normally fairly stoic in the things she spoke of, there was a hint of amusement in her last sentence.

[div style="margin: 0 auto; width: 55%; font-family: arial; font-size: 11pt; text-align: justify;"]Of course, Ophelia could just flit straight up trees. "Flying must be a lot of fun!" Aya looked up at the foliage, where the sky would be if she could see it through the trees.

At the winged cat's question of her research, the tortoiseshell chuckled a little. "Sure, let's say I study mutations. Really, I study all kinds of biology - you know this swamp is radioactive?"

Though I'd guess that you'd enjoy it more than me, seeing as I'm used to it by now and it would be something fresh for you." she said, giving a small shrug of her shoulders.

At the cryptic response, she lifted her head up to look in Aya's direction. "That's... bizarre." There was a small pause, during which she immediately processed her own words a little better. "Not your research, of course! I think that it's a noble venture to try to find cause for what we are and everything around us. The swamp being radioactive is what I find bizarre."

[div style="margin: 0 auto; width: 55%; font-family: arial; font-size: 11pt; text-align: justify;"]Of course, that made sense - flying for the first time was surely more exhilarating than flying for the hundredth.

She chuckled a little at Ophelia's "bizarre" comment. "Yeah, I thought it was bizarre too when I first found it. It causes all kind of freaky mutations in the animals that live in here." Her tail flicked as they reached the part where the swamp began to thin out. "So what do you like to do?"

I think I could live without more mutations, so I'll be sure to steer clear of the water's edge." she said, giving a sideways glance toward the aforementioned water. It didn't look any different from normal disgusting swamp water, but... She supposed that looks could be deceiving. At least, that was what she'd been taught to believe, just like practically every child had been.

Flicking an ear, her gaze traveled back in Aya's direction. "I've spent most of my days just surviving, so I'm not really sure yet what I like to do in my downtime. I do quite like hunting, though, even if it can get tiring to do day in and day out. Fishing has its perks, too."

[div style="margin: 0 auto; width: 55%; font-family: arial; font-size: 11pt; text-align: justify;"]There were plenty of reasons not to drink from the swamp, but tons of reasons to trick someone else into drinking it so you could study them. Obviously it was a little late for Aya to do that to Ophelia, but she could surely do it to someone. "You've got some semblance of a family now, so you won't have to spend all your time watching your back anymore. Which means you get to find out what you like doing for leisure and pleasure! Can you read? I love to read. Horror for fiction, and just about anything nonfiction." She was babbling now, and realised with a quick laugh and shutting her mouth. They were at the edge of the swamp now, looking out into the rest of the territory. The sky opened up a little here, too.

A certain tightness that wasn't quite pleasant, but it wasn't entirely bad, either. Family would be nice, she supposed, though she really had no idea what to do with family. Okay. She really needed to stop getting caught up in her thoughts about subjects that weren't as deep as she seemed to always think they were. After all, having family or whatever to watch her back was exactly what she had signed up for when she arrived. It was what she believed she wanted. Not being alone anymore would be... nice. Probably. It was nice so far.

"I've never gotten into reading much fiction, though I have skimmed through my fair share of textbooks to gain as much knowledge as I could about things I didn't particularly understand on my own." she admitted, looking toward Aya and offering her a small smile to show that she wasn't at all bothered by to amount of talking she had done. "I think that delving into some - horror, you said? - might be lovely. I'd be happy to test the waters with any recommendations you have."

She slowed down a bit as they reached the edge of the swamp, almost entirely pausing as she looked around. Now, this... wasn't too bad. Feeling a lot more at ease than before, she sped up again to arrive at Aya's side. "I think I like this a lot more than I do the muck we just walked through."
