[align=center][div style="width: 500px; text-align: justify; font-family: helvetica; font-size: 9pt; line-height: 1.4;"]I was playing through Arcade's companion quest in FNV, and I'm realizing some more things about Val. He values a legacy. Really values a legacy. No matter how left out he felt in his father's plans, no matter how bitter he got over the idea that his dad was leaving him behind to fix the wasteland on his own, he followed in his steps and supported him the entire way, and finished it where he couldn't. He does his best in the world every day because he knows it's what Amata and all his friends back in the vault would cheer for. He values history and attachment and those bonds that can't really be broken with time.
However, he also values forging his own path. It's part of the reason that he left the capital wasteland and headed for the mojave. Sure, he needed to get away from his dad and all the death and destruction there, but he also needed to make his own story. In the end, he encouraged Arcade to help the Remnants at the dam, but probably gave him enough to think about in terms of creating his own life aside from his history.
