She'd been scouring the sands for the past few days, watching from the skies for something. She hardly rested, aside from letting her injury heal to a somewhat acceptable look, so by the time she did find what she was looking for, she had to sleep and gain energy. The buffalo was massive, though not as extravagant as the one she caught for the harvest. She feared she would never find such a fine specimen in the wild again, so this would have to work. It had to.
After following after the herd and resting in the distance for a day or two, she sprung into action, a flurry of black scales and blue claws scaring away the weaker members. Separating the big guy from the others. It was enough to disorient him and get him to standoff while the others fled. She snorted, circling him as many times as she wanted before striking out. She landed a fierce blow to his hip, breaking the right femur with the impact.
Another swing, this time to his head to throw him off balance. And as he skidded to the side, she dove in to bite down on his neck, tearing the life out of him within minutes and suffering some hits from his hooves. It mattered little, and she snorted in confident victory before taking a handful of his body. From there she started to drag him toward the river.
When she had finally made it, the dragoness dropped the body and scanned the river for movement. Finding none, she raised her head and cried out -- three consecutive "hooting" noises to announce her arrival. And then she placed a protective talon on the kill, tail curling around and sliding across sand.
