Underneath of a soft, fleece purple blanket dappled in white stars was a shy and quiet hound. Beneath a visible white paw was an opened book on aromatherapy, carefully placed so the wind would not blow the pages and make them loose her place in the entry. Light green-gray eyes studied the words with intense focus, the world around her seemingly drowned out. She was paying close attention, not leaving a single word unread.
The Australian Shepherd had taken her place beneath a tall tree, hoping that this would not direct attention to her so that she could enjoy the crisp air while studying. The only parts of her body that were visible beneath the blanket was the paw being used as a paperweight and her black and white speckled snout, light pink nose twitching every now and then.
She had taken shelter here not too long ago- lost and injured was how these Haveners found her, and were surprisingly quick to take her in and patch her up. The Aussie had not experienced such kindness and compassion in such a long time. At first she cried, then thanked them profusely, and decided to stay both out of wanting to pay them back and because this place... actually felt like home. After experiencing verbal and emotional abuse from ‘family’, the dog began to believe that she was just destined to be a punching bag for those around her. But Sunhaven... Sunhaven felt different. For the first time did the young Sunbearer feel safe- like things could change.
Hopefully, here in this lively village, she could begin to truly heal her trauma. Hopefully, in time, she won’t be as insecure or feel the need to defend herself over small things- won’t feel like she is going through a war with the risk of being attacked at any time.
A content sigh passed the canine’s jaws as she flipped to the next page in her book.
