PEYTRIVIING M.
✯ — I KNOW WHERE YOU'VE BEEN, OH

the fire's had licked at their wings. their legs. their body had felt the heat of flames and burns they never thought they had experienced before. there was little peytriviing could remember after the events of that night. there was smoke in the air. jiyu was leading the survivors to the untouched part of the territory and bringing them to safety. pres... gods prestige... he had gone back inside to save the others. after that it was all a blur. the manticore didn't remember the typhoon's arrival, with pinch's daughter patching their wounds and pressing salves against their skin. their mind had been racing with thoughts. visions. disbelief and confusion. they weren't sure if their visions were dreams or memories, or glimpses of the future. it had stressed them to the point of leaving.
they needed to find cain. they needed their brother back.
they had failed in that, unfortunately. pey had tried to contact every underling in their path. demons. succubi. imps. nothing could lead them to the void where cain had returned to, and nothing could summon him back, he supposed. it had taken some time for them to make sense of it on their own in the end.

"you're a very quick learner, tryo." [I]she giggled as they approached her with the limp body of a drake in their jaws. they dropped it at her feet, and purred when she softly brushed her fingers through their mane in praise. "my champion, you will aid me in many battles to come. do you think you're ready to train?"
they nodded quickly, excitedly with a roar of excitement that only she seemed to understand. the only olympian hey had met that was capable of knowing animal speech, so far.
a flash of fire suddenly danced at their paws, and peytriviing had jumped back with surprise. the attack had been unannounced, something they hadn't been prepared for. so quickly after their pledge, too. the manticore looked up at the goddess with a puzzled look, and artemis held out her a hand to her champion, a ball of flames in her palm.
"you are to protect me at the cost of your life. my enemy will not warn me before they kill me, do you understand, tyro?" peytriviing nodded slowly, their tail becoming stiff and crouching lower to the ground, readying themselves for the next lesson.
dreams were not often so vivid for pey. sleep was more commonly easy to fall into, but night after night their sleep was disturbed by these visions. they held feelings of home. purpose. artemis… she felt like love.
finding answers on their own had proved futile soon enough. the former guard was no longer seeking lonesome travel, and they saw no reason not to return to their former home. the rosebloods were once their family, after all. the mortem name was something to be respected to a degree. the aftermath of these visions had given peytriviing back a familiar sense of confidence and direction, though. they surely planned to put it to good use.
"peytriviing mortem, returning." they simply stated, scorpion tail uncurling behind them slowly as they began to relax.
