mentions of death and murder - be warned //
the bandits had been wearing on everyone's minds recently, their father had been distant and distracted with the threat of bandits, and laeglin had only time on his paws after he had recovered from the august meeting. he felt bored, and frustrated with the lack of things that he could do. he'd been speaking with his sister, veris, and the two had come up with a plan - they both knew that the storm had uncovered some new territory and they had been planning on going to explore it for some time. they knew that the bandits had been staying in the cliff side housing where parts of the cliff had given away during the storm, uncovering a new addition to the territory - tunnels in the cliff side. they had already staked out a clean and easy path into the tunnels, they'd done some basic exploring of them already, side by side to figure out a path when they had heard voices in the tunnels and had run off, uncovering an entrance into the territories somewhere in a hillock behind the inn. returning home, the siblings had kept the tunnels a secret, only having let [member=1712]LEOKU LINGRE-KYRZOBA[/member] in on the secret.
together, they had planned to go back, realizing that the bandits were in the tunnels, hidden from view and detection. they made the plan to go in and spy, to sneak along the tunnels, wearing mud and dung to mask their scents, to find out more and report back to their father about their findings. they had set up a rendezvous point, and many minutes had passed and he waited, sitting patiently, waiting for his sister to show up under the cherry tree that they had made their meet up mark. teeth set in his lip, he waited for an hour before he got to his paws, anxious and wary, wondering what could have befallen his sibling. sucking in a breath, the serval trotted along, tail flicking behind his back, teal eyes dark with concern and ill thoughts.
little did the youngest of the hatchlings know that misfortune had fallen his dearest sister, she had gone before him, and he had come back by the way of the tunnel leading out to the hillock, having found nothing of the bandits. taking a deep breath, he re-entered the way he had came, a lantern between his jaws. he was unknowing of the fact that his sister's body lay at the other entrance, at the cliffside, in those open tunnels, her body twisted and mane torn, throat tugged upon and neck snapped, found spying by the bandits, her cries for help drowned in the angry swell of the ocean kissing the rocky feet of the cliffs below. into the tunnels he traveled, unaware that the trio was down to two of surviving children, that his sister had met the god of death and waited for her escort. far ahead, near one of the many splits in the tunnels, his light illuminated dark fur and sparkling red eyes, his breath being drawn in as he changed to a gallop to reach his sister, to chastise her for her meandering. little did he know that this was not the flesh and bone of his sister, but her spirit, drawing him in deeper, taking him along a route that they had not explored yet. he could not keep well of her, her steps keeping her far ahead, before she took a corner and when he rounded it, she was even further away. slow became his steps as the ground rumbled under him, gaze flying upward as the earth opened with a roar and caused dirt and stone to come raining down upon him, trapping him inside. voice screaming out, he watched his sister turn around to face him, and disappear before his eyes, his voice a cut off wail, screaming, 'VERIS!' before he was buried alive, frantic and slowly fading, in dire need of rescue.
