CLONY
[ age mover of the oblivions ]

Back in the Badlands from which Clony hailed, there were a few feats that it was proud of. Blowing up an entire production factory paled in comparison to their other achievements, like freeing a rabbit from being sawed into a gnarly mess. But, by far, the biggest - and dare they say most badass - thing they had done had occurred on the second day of their life. Clony back then was still pretty young and naive, not really knowing the direness of everything that rested upon them. It was more about survival than anything. There wasn't time for fun when they were being beared down on, hunted, killed. How many deaths they had tallied up were not important. The important thing was the giant machine they had stumbled across that day. Hard metal, giant legs, a massive cockpit, and vents big enough for Clony to enter through. Decommissioned, likely - it had been perfect for Clony. A tight fit through a vent, a few wrong turns, and they'd plopped themselves into the seat. Flashy buttons, all a putrid red color, dull from wear. It was an old machine. The clones had flocked over the device, searching for a way to turn it on. What better a way to get back at someone than to use their own devices against them? A few button pushes, the pull of a lever, a few turns of a page, and the flock of clones were lasering down massive metallic buildings until the mech was bombed from above. It had been a good time, truly.

"What do you mean you don't have blue paper?" Clony asked, their pearly eyes narrowing at the NPC that was currently engaged in conversation with the bat. "I can't make blue prints if the paper isn't blue!" Their fluffy tail swings behind them rapidly. Alas, this NPC had better things to do, and so it would be a rugged and torn light blue paper that came their way. Perhaps they were a busy shopkeeper, perhaps there was another customer more worth their time? Such mattered not to Clony, who now had what they sought and could begin the process of crafting the best technological invention this land had seen. Lasers hadn't been made yet, so technically lasers would still surpass them in their eyes. Clony's ears twitched a little, hopping around the paper after laying it down on a somewhat hard and flat surface. Today was quite windy, a nice break from the heat of summer. Pleasant the wind was not for the paper Clony began trying to scribble on. The wind tugged against the paper, causing for the bat's lines that would have been messy regardless to degrade even more. "Fuck! Fuck fuck fuck! Can the wind go away for a solid, for a solid eight hours? Fuck!" The bat swears, hopping on one corner of the paper only for another to begin rapidly fluttering in the breeze before they can continue writing.

Finally, they cease, plopping down with a talon still gripping the paper. They've torn the paper more than it had been already due to their rough use, and on the paper was what could be considered the world's worst attempt at blueprints. What was on the paper couldn't even be determined, and Clony certainly knew it. Their ears raised a little when an idea came to mind. They rolled up the blueprints and carried them off, only returning after they'd collected a couple stones. Finally Clony was able to sketch in peace, even if the wind rippling the paper was still annoying. They had to flip the paper onto the back - the front sketch was not able to be redeemed in their eyes. "Hey! Hey! You wanna look at this? It's very, very cool. Its blueprints! On blue paper! Of course, its not, its not printed, I couldn't find any permanent toxic sludge around here to use. I should make a printer next. You wanna see? Of course you do, come look!" They chattered with their ever present mental methods, tail wagging with delight to see who would come to observe the bat's craftsmanship ideas on paper.

Aurum really didn't know much about technology, at least when it came to the practicality of it all. Despite living within the ruins of a city during his childhood, the pride he had dwelled in had been very traditional. They had traditional rankings, hunting methods, and ways of viewing the world. As such, technology was one of the furthest things from their minds. The only time that the lion cub had ever truly indulged in the joys of technological advancement was when he got his paws on various sci fi novels that he scavenged from old, broken down bookstores within the city's towering structures. Even then, however, none of the technology within those stories had been practical. Flying cars and floating buildings hadn't been possible to the humans that had once existed in the city, and many more of the wondrous inventions pondered about within science fiction had never seen the light of day, far too complex for any scientist to even begin to touch on. Since then, Aurum had begun to branch out a little bit more in his reading tastes, and as such, he had indulged by reading a bit more non-fiction. A great deal of it was rather boring, since it used terminology he didn't understand, or was simply as dry as humanly possible. However, some of it was simply fascinating, because it was almost enchanting to see what humans really could come up with. Sure, nothing he saw within those tomes would compare to the fanciful inventions of science fiction, but it sure was all quite advanced to him.

He was actually quite sure that he had learned about blueprints in one of the aforementioned nonfiction books. They were usually clean pieces of paper, laid out for an inventor so that they had a blank canvas for all of the ideas that their mind held. All they needed to do was draw out the broad specs of whatever they wanted to create, and not down the finer details inside, eventually having a roadmap to whatever their end goal was. Most of the blueprints that Aurum had seen within these books were immaculate, mostly because they were usually final drafts. They were instructions meant to be copied, so that others could look at them and continue building whatever it was sketches out in front of them. There were, of course, more rough drafts, smudged and smeared with rewrites and late nights trying to figure out what would work correctly. However, they were few and far between, since most humans didn't like to show off the hard nights spend pacing in frustration as they tried to figure out exactly how they could get idea to paper. Even with that detail in mind... Aurum wasn't exactly sure what he had been expecting when he heard Clony's urgent voice in his head, urging him to come forth and check out it's blueprints. He wasn't sure why he hadn't been expecting one of those rough, smeared over drafts, desperately done in the heat of the moment, while an idea was still bubbling and fresh.

Even if he had been expecting just a rough draft, he was pretty sure he would've been disappointed. Colony's blueprints looked like no rough draft he had ever seen, what the rocks sloppily holding down the edges, and the various tears that marred the rapper's surface. Technically the paper wasn't the right shade of blue, either, but that was hardly the first thing on Aurum's mind as he stared down at the paper, head tilted and tail flicking behind him. He eventually realized that he had been staring in confusion for too long, and his eye hastily snapped up to Clony, hesitating as he tried to figure 9out how to approach it. Eventually he decided to be straightforward, figuring that Clony would be alright with it. It didn't exactly seem to be the type to get all offended. His voice came out a little weak with confusion as he muttered, pointing a golden paw down at the paper, "Uh, it's very nice, Clony. But... what exactly is it? Like... what are the plans for?" He had his bet on lasers, or perhaps a stage for a fashion show, considering how obsessed it had seemed when he and his group had first arrived.

The now-familiar sound of mental chatter echoed in Rin's head as she exited her house- something about blueprints, blue paper, the wind, and printers. Turning towards the sound of Aurum's voice asking for clarification, she twitched her ears. If she had to guess without seeing the blueprint, it was probably a plan for a laser, in which case she needed to inspect it to make sure the resulting creation wouldn't burn down the territory.

Approaching Clony, their blueprints (on light blue paper, rather than dark blue), and Aurum, Rin lowered her head to get a closer look at the schematics. The scribbles were... basically illegible, not helped by the paper being scratched up. Even looking at it and assuming it was a laser, the drawings did not become any clearer.

Shaking her head, Rin said, "I could probably try and find you more paper for blueprints, if you'd like. They don't have to be made on blue paper nowadays." Having taken up cartography on the side, she had plenty of map-sized sheets of paper, that could withstand a little wear and tear.

CLONY
[ age mover of the oblivions ]

Excitement flooded through the bat's veins as the first to come to investigate the blueprints came over. Clony knew that the sketch was quite messy. They'd done their best, lacking any decent way to hold a pencil and constantly fighting against the wind while doodling away. Pride blossomed in their pearly eyes, watching as the lion looked over their messy scribbles. There were some vague measurements, some basic shapes like cubes and cones and rectangles, and lots of random lines and arrows that went absolutely all over the place. They hopped on their feet, fine with how long Aurum was taking. There was a lot of greatness to take in, after all! Finally, the other spoke, and the bat's ears raised to listen.  He couldn't tell what it was? Clony squinted, hobbling closer to their creation. "Its a walker mech!" They chirp, lifting up a foot to point at one square on the paper. "This here's one of the walky bits, helps it move around." A flap of their wings sent them over to the other side of the blueprints. "Its got a laser on it, of course! That'll go right here," they said while a claw extended to point at an awkward looking cone with a bunch of traingles slapped around it.

Ears swiveled before Clony's head, smiling at Rin's approach. She wanted to look at the blueprints, and they were more than happy to back away so that she could see their craftsmanship. "Whatcha think? Pretty good, right?" They chatter, tail swinging behind them. Then she offered blueprints, more paper, and that caused for Clony to errupt with delighted clicking noises. "You do? You'd get me more paper! This'll be awesome! No more crows getting to do their bullshit! See, see its to keep those 'god' fellows from sticking around too long. Just step on them with a couple tons of metal, they won't last long. Or laser them. Rin, its got a laser- gonna have one, I mean. I gotta get parts. Do a couple more sketches. All that stuff," they continue to chatter, hopping around their work and pointing to what clearly was a messy scribble interrupted by a hole in the paper. "I'm not good with wiring, but this seems like it'll work," they nod their head, mental voice filled with complete certainty.

A walker mech. The idea sounded totally foreign and strange to Aurum, and sounded more like it belonged in one of the many science fiction stories that he had once read. Still, most of what Clony did and said thus far seemed to be that way, so why would anything change now? Even so, the angel didn't want to just write off the other's ingenuity, even if such a device would absolutely never work in any sort of practical way. Maybe if it was anyone else, Aurum would've been a bit more honest and straightforward with them. However, Clony seemed to have this sort of childlike innocence about it. Well, aside from the swearing, that was. The lion wasn't overly eager to smash apart that childlike innocence, or destroy Clony's sense of odd confidence, so he just found himself nodding his head along like a proud parent, hoping that would convey the message he desired. Thankfully, he was fairly sure that Clony was so absorbed in its own ideas that it wouldn't even notice his lack of speaking. It seemed to fill up the air with its own excited chattering anyways, especially when Rin decided to come over and try offering some better paper to work on. Aurum had his doubts that any new paper wouldn't meet the same unfortunate fate as the old, but he could hope.

When Clony continued to chatter on about its invention, it soon became clear that Clony intended for the device to be used against the gods. The very same gods that Aurum had unfortunately bore witness to attacking the group not too long ago. The mental image of an overly confident Clony jumping behind a sloppily smashed together collection of metal, only to be crushed beneath the feet of some horrible god, flashed in his mind, and he had to swallow back bile. With a shiver going down his spine, the lion explained softly, "I see... well, you know, even if an invention doesn't work out, it's not the end of the world, you know? That's just... something to keep in mind, if you decide to make this... walker mech thing." The angel had hardly known Clony for any considerable amount of time yet, but that didn't mean that he wanted the creature dead. As such, he tried to strike a delicate balance between not hurting its feelings, and also making sure that it didn't go flinging itself over confidently into unnecessary danger.

...they wanted to build a walker mech? On this landmass, it was rare to find so much as a stereo, never mind something that advanced. While she had met some with prosthetic legs, an entire mecha that walked on its own was beyond the scope of any creature she'd encountered here- and good thing for that, too. There were enough problems without adding robots into the equation.

Though, maybe Clony would surprise her and manage to make a working mecha. So long as it was operated by Clony themselves and didn't have any artificial intelligence, she wasn't entirely opposed to that. The thought of further laser experiments, though... that, she had to shut down.

Shaking her head, Rin examined the blueprints more closely. "I'm not a circuitry expert either, but I don't think we have the resources to make this work," she said, twitching her ears. "It took decades for robotics to develop to the point of working prosthetics, never mind an entire walker." Turning her head to glance at Clony, she added, "You're welcome to try anyway. You might actually be able to make something that works, and as long as it doesn't have a mind of its own, I'm fine with it. But I don't want you running laser tests, after how the last one went."

Staring at the outlined shapes, however- circles, cones, rectangles, box it in- realization struck. Just make a fire pit, of course. "Actually, I might be able to designate a testing area, so you can safely test lasers without setting the entire forest on fire," Rin commented, looking further down the street. "I'll look into that, but until then, don't mess around with fire."
