prompt [★] what do you see? - Keona. - 08-31-2018

✯ — female. striker of the typhoon. blind. rusty spotted cat.  ref. bio.
Keona never liked the feeling of fabric.  Certainly not on her face.  It had been brought up once, that she could cover her eyes in battle, to prevent an illusion of optional blindness.  To confuse her enemies.  It was, in her opinion, a silly concept.  If she was going to battle blind anyway, it was a waste of effort.  The tiny feline could appreciate the idea of deception, but not in matters such as her inability to see.

She did wonder sometimes.  It was hard sometimes.  Were her eyes off-putting?  Was there something irregular about them?  Keona, after all, could not see what they looked like.  She assumed, logically, that something stood out about them, for she never had to vocalize she was blind before someone pieced it together.  They looked at her and knew.  Simple.  Plain as daylight.  Something off.  Something irregular.

She fretted, every once and a while, when she was alone with her thoughts -- an extremely common occurrence.  Did they make her look strange?  Did they make anyone uncomfortable?  Especially when she made an effort to follow their voices, to 'look' up at them.  The pale sea-green hues only stared blankly in the correct direction, unfocused, not a single image registering in her brain.

Keona wanted to be good.  A good pirate.  She did not care so much, for any attention, but she wanted to be, at the very least, looked at as a good pirate.  It did not have to be now.  She was still learning.  Growing.  But one day.  A good pirate.  Talented.  Not feared necessarily, but respected.  It was not in intent to hurt anyone afterall, for she simply believed in the freedom of piracy.  Take what you want, give nothing back.  Chase the horizon.  Freedom.

There was a small aspect of appearance, to being a pirate.  A cool pirate, anyway.  For the child had heard plenty of others say someone looked cool.  Perhaps that was why there were often days the Typhoon spent painting each other and accessorizing.  Keona did not mind letting others paint on her, given the promise it was something cool, but she had avoided accessorizing for it seemed pointless to her.

Perhaps it was worth giving it a go.

That being the case, Keona decided to go full out.  Tiny legs carrying her to Capricorn to find a new 'look'.  It was not hard to find a few crewmates to help her.  Simple rules.  Nothing cutesy.  Nothing over the top.  Not fancy hats or nonsense.  In the end, she did feel the foreignness of cloth over her eyes, hiding her distinct eyes from view.  A simple blank bandana, with a blood red paw print on the side.  A clip-on earing on her left ear; simply a circular, golden piece of jewelry.

It all felt odd.  Not quite like her.  Keona would give it a try for the day, but she was not sure she would want to deal with remembering to put on accessories when she woke up in the morning.

A new 'look' found, Keona now faced the boredom that often sank it when she'd finished whatever she had set her mind to.  The price of being rather quiet and antisocial.  Absently, the tiny rusty spotted kitten lingered on the beach, slowly following the shore, her paws just barely grazing over water when the tide came in.

There were two types of pirates that intimidated Bakugou - the ones who meant business the moment you set your eyes upon them, and the ones who didn't appear intimidating at all. The first one was difficult to come across. Many times has he seen a frightening specimen only to realise they were harmless, hardly anything to worry about. Perhaps it was just his expectations for the sea-dwelling creatures: to appear horrific and be horrific, to live up to what they radiated so genuinely. Bakugou hates liars. He can't stand those who couldn't deliver on their promises, their pledges. It's probably why they hated him so much at UA. He was overconfident, snarky and far too self-absorbed in his own ambitions. The worst part of it was that he delivered, powered by a burning ambition that made others uncomfortable and angry.

The second type of pirate, however, made Bakugou most unsettled. They were the ones who were easy to underestimate, the ones you'd subconsciously let your guard down around. For that reason, the ragdoll never dared to truly assume someone to be weak until he observed their capabilities, weighed their potentials. Personally, Bakugou believes that everyone has the potential to be evil, but not everyone had the potential to be a genuine good person. They were inbred to be selfish, to respond to how things made them feel. Essentially they were all following what made them happy. If helping others was their salvation, then they continued to do so because of that emotion, brimming at the seams. There was a level of selfishness in everything - nothing was done unless there was some kind of gain. The more he lets himself ponder on such, the more he begins to dislike the world and its motives. How could he have called himself a hero if he couldn't even trust the world? They always told him he'd make a better villain.

Deception. The very idea of tricking the eyes of unsuspecting victims wasn't something he liked to think about. Anyone was a walking vessel, imprinting some kind of impression that may not be true at all. Those with sight only saw what others wanted them to see, those with ears only heard what others wanted them to hear. It makes him realise exactly why he can't believe in anything or anyone. The emotions which bubble inside him are only alive in him and not even he understands everything he feels and longs for. Even Bakugou finds his own mind playing tricks on him. Sometimes he'd wake up and forget he no longer has hands or feet, no pointed nose but an entire muzzle obscuring his view. It makes him feel dazed, as if his human life had all been a dream. Confusion isn't a particularly fun emotion after all, and this was the emotion which possessed him at this very moment.

Confusion. Even the word sounds as if it doesn't know its own purpose. He doesn't understand why there is a little girl at the beach with her eyes covered. He feels uneasy. Maybe he is struck by a sense of deja vu, as if he's seen her before and knew exactly why there is a bandanna which wraps along her head. Ornaments decorate the child, nothing bizarre but still accenting a sense of spirit, a pirate's ghost. The privateer scrunches his nose, approaching Keona in his own bewilderment, unsure as to why she is sitting there with fabric covering her eyes. A sick prank? Perhaps someone told the girl that there was a surprise waiting for her, to cover her eyes until someone came only to leave her alone...just sitting there. He doesn't want to look like he cares but frankly, he feels that he has to look out for her because it is his job. He isn't doing this out of a desire to be a good person, but simply because he felt he had to. "Why do you have a bandanna on y'face?"

Deception.  Ikaia was unfamiliar with the nature of deception.  Lies.  Misleading appearances.  The boy had grown up alone before venturing across the waters and finding himself among a crew of pirates.  A lot of rather typical things were brand new to him.  Not that he was not excited to learn.  The small feline had made it evident from day one he would do his best to be a 'great pirate'.  To him, that meant learning all about pirates.

Hard when they were all so different from each other.  Of course, most of his observance had been on the outside.  He'd committed to very little actual interaction, despite his friendly nature.  Deep down, he was... Antsy.  He was just a young shapeshifter, a fae-blooded - though not quite a typical fae - with little to no knowledge of the world.  No family. No close friends.  No actual clue.

That said, Ikaia did recognize Keona.  She was the only kitten smaller than him.  Not to mention he had become familiar with the way her eyes looked.  The color of them too, was unique, and he found them rather fascinating.  Keona herself, was rather a fascinating example of the way pirates came in unique colors.  She was terribly young, though perhaps like him, not as young as she looked per say, and on top of that, entirely blind.  So when he realized it was Keona, sitting in the sand, her eyes covered, he paused.

Perturbed, the boy trotted over after Bakugou.  His keen brown orbs narrowed curiously on the other child, thoughtful. "New outfit?" He inquired, a slight smile gracing his lips.  The oncilla carried with him a strange air. Something wild and untamed.  Blunt as the sky was blue.  Lies and tact did not come easy for him and it leaked into his playful, cheerfully naive voice.  He glanced at Bakugou, grin turning to a smirk as he wondered if the other did not actually know the bandanna made no difference to Keona's ability to see.

"Keo right?" He seemed to ask every time they ran into each other.  He wanted to be polite.  Friendly.  Hopefully she did not mind.  "I like the earring, it's cool.  The bandanna's neat too, it makes you seem real mysterious," maybe that was part of the goal?  Bandannas were fairly common among pirates, he supposed, though they were oft over the forehead, not covering the eyes.  Perhaps that explained Bakugou's confusion.  "But I liked your eyes."
