WHEN I RISE TO THE TOP :: family joining - Zjarr - 04-29-2022

[div style="width: 48%; line-height: 14px; text-align: justify; font-family: arial; font-size: 13px;"]// please wait for the kiddos to post first!!

Zjarr Ignibus only saw the swamp as a means of getting the resources required for his Forge, sneaking into the derelict junkyard to hunt for scrap metals and other materials he could use for his blacksmithing endeavors. If it were up to him, he would never have to call this place home.

But times have indeed changed, and now he had three young, fragile bodies to look out for. That, and Flamey more or less kicked them all out of the Forge.

The family's tale began nearly five months prior upon a stormy evening. Zjarr had been brainstorming ideas for a new weapon, detailing a sketch for it in graphite as he moved frantically throughout the Ignibus Forge, muttering to himself as he searched for the materials he needed for his newest project. "Dried leather, check. Cobalt alloy...I can make that, right? Right?"

"I think someone's at the entrance," the ghostly voice of Flamey announced, breaking the demon from his trance with an exasperated huff.

"So go 'n' check it out," he responded, not turning to meet Flamey's gaze. "Pro'lly just the damn wind you're hearin'. It's called a storm, Flamey."

"I can't leave the Forge. I have my limitations." Right. Flamey, being a ghost bound to the Forge and the Forge alone, was doomed not to leave the location he was forced to inhabit indefinitely. With yet another huff, Zjarr took hold of the open bottle of whiskey that lay beside him and took a brief swig before setting it back down and trotting out towards the entrance of the cave, peering out from the stony maw. He wasn't drunk, but he sure didn't feel like dealing with strangers now. For a moment he heard nothing but torrential rainfall and the battering of wind upon the cave, and he wanted to curse Flamey for distracting him from his work. If I could beat you to a bloody pulp, I would, he thought bitterly.

And just before he turned back into the cave, he heard it — distinct, pitiful squeaks hailing from a bush that shook from the great winds nearby. Zjarr eyed the bush for a moment before hesitantly making his way over, scanning his surroundings briefly out of fear that he may be getting ambushed or otherwise deceived. When he determined that the coast was clear, he approached the bush, flattening himself towards the stony ground to get a better look at what lay underneath.

Puppies. Three of them.

The husky did nothing but stare at them, squirming and helpless. They looked to be infants, barely weaned with their eyes hardly open. Part of him wanted to eat them now, take them out of their misery while providing him with some sustenance. The Missus will be up your ass for that one, won't he? he thought in regards to Flamey, who would never let him hear the end of it if he did. So gingerly he took the three of them into his grasp and carried them into the Forge, setting them down inside the warm, dry cave. Zjarr wasn't sure if he had any milk or anything soft and easy to digest for them, but he figured that he could break down or just straight up regurgitate whatever prey he had lying around in the cave for the puppies to eat so they wouldn't die of starvation. The least he could do was provide them with some water for now, which he supplied from the small pool in the Forge within a tiny wooden bowl that he set between the pups.

The ghostly feline came down from his favored perch to investigate, eyeing the infant German shepherds curiously. "They're young. Really young," he said, his tone full of worry for them.

"No shit. Look, the storm's real fuckin' bad out. No doubt the parents might'a lost 'em. They'll come back after, I'm sure. Then we can get 'em off our hands and get back to work." Zjarr was willing to offer the puppies shelter for now in order to keep them alive. A warm cave was a hell of a lot better than laying under a bush in a huge storm, after all. He hoped that within a few days, their parents would come looking for them, and he would give them back with no hesitation and return to his duties.

A week passed by. Then another. And another. As the time moved faster and the puppies grew larger, he had lost all hope. Zjarr's desire to consume them before they got too large grew, yet Flamey pushed him away from the thought. forcing him into a more gentle, paternal role. With time, the German shepherds grew on him, and he found himself more willing to tend to them and nurture them past their current age. Flamey had even helped to name (or, he supposed, rename them?) the children: Lanyu for the sister, Christian for the larger of the brothers, and Randall for the smaller. With newfound excitement, Zjarr proclaimed them all members of the Ignibus family as his own adoptive children as well as the future employees of the Ignibus Arms Company. He could always welcome new, trusted hands to his business.

Over the course of the next few months, the bliss of raising children and future workers began to die down as the Forge posed more and more of a threat to the young pups. Flamey would be of no help to babysit the children, for his ghostly form prohibited him from tending to the pups or physically restraining them from the dangerously hot anvils and materials all throughout the cave in addition to the molten lava that was used in the crafting process. Randall had suffered the most, losing parts of his tail to the lava after an emergency amputation and beginning to lose his eyesight, forcing Zjarr to find vision-correcting goggles to better assist his boy.

"You are done here," Flamey said to Zjarr one evening in one corner of the cave while the children slept in the other. "You depart by the end of this week, you and the pups. This is no place to raise them." Rage had filled the husky, but he refused to bicker with the concerned spirit now. Instead, they made a pact to live in a place beyond the Forge, only to return for actual business matters. Flamey was ecstatic; Zjarr was less so, bitter at the prospect of abandoning his home, but ultimately understanding the reasoning. The following morning, he had told them to prepare their belongings and that they would be relocating to someplace safer. "Won't be so hot all the damn time. 'n' hey, maybe there's kids you can play with there. It'll be great," he had told them, hoping to raise their spirits. Not too long after, they were on the road, heading south from the Neutral Grounds towards the swamps.

He had brought them to the swamps of Tanglewood primarily because it was the only safe haven he could think of. The Island had changed drastically since he had last been involved directly with the clans (The Pitt? The Coalition of the Condemned? What the flying fuck were those?). While his old home in the Ascendants had long disappeared, and Snowbound had fallen right with it, Tanglewood and the Typhoon still remained of the original four — and Tanglewood just so happened to have that bountiful junkyard of theirs that a certain bounty hunter had informed him about, the one that he had visited and briefly came into contact with a mute Tangler. He wondered if the feline still lived there.

Zjarr adjusted his olive military cap and glanced over at the German shepherds once he felt the ground get softer and air a bit more humid. They were close. He could feel it. "Not much longer now, guys," he said to them, offering them a smile and wink of reassurance as they ventured past Tanglewood's borders and further into the marsh.

Re: WHEN I RISE TO THE TOP :: family joining - CHRISTIAN IGNIBUS - 04-30-2022

the walk was really long, and christian stayed silent the majority of the time. his paws ached, his tongue was lolling out from his jaws. it was really warm, wasn't it? despite being young still, he managed to keep up with their adoptive father's strides, occasionally looking back to check on his siblings. zjarr informed them they would be there soon, but christian held his tongue and said nothing. he could offer nothing useful either, because he truly didn't know where they were. flamey had kicked all of them out, claiming the forge was too dangerous a place for them to be raised, and he wholeheartedly agreed, as cruel as that might've been. his brother had already suffered due to the heat and flames, and he didn't want that to happen to him or his sister either.

LANYU   GERMAN SHEPHERD FEMALE 5 MONTHS SINGLE TANGLEWOOD
[div style="width: 51%; text-align: justify; font-size: 10pt; letter-spacing: 0px; font-family: georgia; color: #5C5D67;"]she remembered the day they were rescued by zjarr as if it was only yesterday. the way the storm raged and the way the rain felt on her. she was so cold and scared, as any tiny pup would be. she knew her parents were not coming back, but she didn't understand why. she could hardly understand much back then.

the pup had been grateful for the shelter zjarr gave them all. the food and care he gave despite having no obligation to do so. the love he showed was something she felt back for him and she hardly remembered her parents. part of her wondered if the day he found her was a dream and she often just accepted that zjarr had always been her dad.

in her mind, he was always her dad and always would be. nothing would change that fact in her mind. she missed the place she grew up already as they had left it behind. she found the warmth of the forge was comforting. she wished she could go back and lay in the darkness.

what she would not have given to hear the sounds of zjarr working on the newest weapon. to hear her brothers goofing off while she stalked them in the flickering light. the games they played wouldn't be the same here in this swamp. she would have to adjust, but she knew it was for the best.

right?

she had to believe that after what happened to her brother. randall was hurt the most and she was worried for him. so, she was watchful of him while they traveled. then, her father spoke and she looked up to see them farther away from her than she expected. panicking a little, she would move forward a bit faster.

her small paws bringing her up next to her siblings and her eyes scanning the swamp before them. it looks icky. she muttered as she lifted a mud stained paw. head tilting and eyes flicking slightly. she was not happy about the mud, but she would adjust.

looking to her father and blinking. my feet hurt and its hot. she adds before her tail wags behind her. it was clear she was bored and wanted to play more so than her being unhappy. she was always playing, after all.

his sister complained that her paws hurt and about the weather, and he let out a little huff. "du wolltest mitkommen. also sei leise und lauf einfach weiter." he saw no point in complaining, all they could do was grit their teeth, push on, and not complain like a wuss. they had plenty of time to adjust to their new surroundings later, but he too questioned why their adoptive father had decided to pick here.

Re: WHEN I RISE TO THE TOP :: family joining - Zjarr - 05-15-2022

[div style="width: 48%; line-height: 14px; text-align: justify; font-family: arial; font-size: 13px;"]His mouth twitched at Lanyu's comments, unsure of how he could formulate an appropriate response for her. She had her complaints, as he knew they all did, but she was a bit more vocal about them than the other youngsters he had in tow. Christian, it seemed, was quicker to dismiss them than Zjarr was, huffing at his sister. "It's okay," he said to the boy with a soft chuckle. He didn't know what German worm crawled into Christian's head in his infancy, but it was there, alright — none of the others spoke German so Zjarr chalked it up to that. Miraculously, it was a language he understood for a reason he no longer knew, though he was not completely fluent as he once remembered being. Was it a German friend? That had to have been the case, and it felt right to him, but his old comrade's face and voice long eluded him. He cursed his memory frequently for being all too selective.

They were deep enough into the borders now, and still no Tangler in sight. This place surely wasn't deserted, for the demon detected recent scent trails around them, all with the same odor. There had to be others here. They just had to be more assertive with their presence. "YO! Anyone out there?" the canine barked, on the watch for anyone that would greet them.

AESIOR OPHELES
✯ — it just sucks to try and explain
space
The arrival of the mismatched family fell upon him as a surprise, driving the mute tom from the treeline where'd he been collecting herbs and mushrooms in a deep-sided wicker basket. Blinking to re-adjust to the sunnier location, the tabby would shoulder his way from the shrubbery with his basket held tight in his jaws, a sour expression on his face as he shook his paws free of a muddy puddle.

Ears perking forward at the familiar voice, though not familiar enough to remember as his group mate's. Zjarr, was it? He remembered the introduction at their last entertaining encounter. Had it truly been that long? Gaze sweeping over the three German shepherd pups and their husky caretaker, he set his basket down with his tail curled behind him in an almost questioning way, matched by the curious expression. Was he back to introduce himself now, and had brought his children with him? Blinking a few times, the mute Tom would turn and pull his satchel to sit against his chest, sitting on his haunches to dig through the contents in search for his pencil and notebook.

He was grateful that his trading as of late had brought him another new notebook, the other was severely water damaged and was in need of his notes on his flowers being transferred to the new parchment. Putting the notebook down on a dry flat stone, he would scribble in a few words, wincing at his own smarting paw, tucking the aching paw to his belly to keep it out of the way. 'zjarr? Are you and your kids alright? Is something wrong?', he probably didn't have any right to ask but as the first to react, he figured he should Especially with the short interaction they'd had. He'd said nothing about pups then?

Re: WHEN I RISE TO THE TOP :: family joining - merlin - 05-17-2022

embrace my lungs -
the mis-matched family wouldn't be along for long, merlin soon coming after aesior, interrupted from her own slow patrol by the voices and the call that zjarr had made. padding along, the lioness would soon enter the more-or-less clear section of land, turning her head around until she saw the husky and shepherd pups, dipping her head in greeting to the rag tag family. she watched as aesior greeted the husky and pulled out his notebook, peering over his shoulder in muted interest before looking back to the family, offering a paw to shake to zjarr.

"i don't know who you are, zjarr, but my name is merlin. it seems that aesior here knows you somewhat, so i must also ask, what brings you and your brood to tanglewood's step?", her eyes traveled to each of the pups, taking quick stock of their physical conditions, muzzle creasing slightly in concern as her brows furrowed at the sight of randall. was the child alright in the end? she couldn't answer that, she wasn't a truly practiced medical professional, she just knew enough first aid to stem bleeding and maybe save a life. she left that to the medical reaper and her former knight friends.

two other appeared, the first one pulling out a notebook and scribbling something down. christian leaned forwards to look, it asked if they were alright. another female padded up and why they were here, and christian shouldered his way forwards. never being one to be shy nor non-vocal, he spoke up with a cautious wag of his tail. "wir wurden von unserer.. Wohnort rausgeschmissen, und Zjarr hatte gesagt, dass wir hier kommen könnte. Er ist zwar nicht unser biologischer Vater aber er hat uns adoptiert, als wir noch ganz jung war." he didn't know if they understood him, he didn't know if anyone would understand him, but english just didn't seem.. right, to speak.

Re: WHEN I RISE TO THE TOP :: family joining - CORRUPTTIMELINES - 05-25-2022

Next came Corrupttimelines, whom simply looked over the family with curious eyes. Aesior knew them, and he trusted Aesior, so he felt no need to act hostile. Instead, he moved beside his friend and glanced down at the pup speaking German. Confusion plastered across his face, and then he looked to Aesior. “I can’t understand them.

CARNIVORE, CARNIVORE
WON'T YOU COME AND CHANGE ME!?
The deinonychus moved with such delicate movement, almost silent as she arrived on the scene. "Don't know them. Or what the kid's saying." She rumbled, words low, quiet, and she simply looked at Zjarr. A father bringing his children to a group. Now, why couldn't her mother have done the same, and stayed? Part of her wanted to be angry or jealous at this lot, but she reasoned that the anger was unjustified. Just as many things were.

"M'name Ares. Hello." She spoke gently, and then fell silent. Wasn't much else to say.
