Down to business | Training - Onyxdreams - 05-03-2021

~ ☼ The day that she would finally become an Immune, a fully-fledged member of the Glades was swiftly approaching, the days seeming to pass faster and faster as her first birthday approached. It was something she looked forward to, to complete her training and take her place with the rest of the members of the Glades, as a defender of their home. Yet, at the same time, it was probably the one thing she stressed over more than anything else in her life at the moment. There wasn't much that she did stress over in her life, in her experience, things worked out, and she had faith in her own abilities, so...why was she so anxious about this? She had learned to hunt, in fact she considered herself pretty good at it, especially when it came to taking down birds and the many other small mammals that called the trees their home, but...when it came to fighting? Well...she really sucked at it.

It was, in part, her own fault, she hadn't exactly trained all that much in the combat aspect of things, more than anything else she had been focused on getting through the prey hunting trial for her promotion. However, being able to fight was just as important, if a raid came there way, she would be expected to fight, she wanted to fight, to defend their home. The worst part of it all though was that she hadn't even realized exactly how far behind she was until she had fought a fellow Discens in a sparring much. Needless to say, she lost. It was almost embarrassing, she had barely managed to even land a hit on him, but it had shown her where she was lacking.

Finally coming to a stop at the line she had drawn in the sand, she sat down and gasped for breath, turning to glance over her shoulder at the patch of beach she had just run back and forth through. Had...had she gotten any faster, since she had started doing this? It was hard to tell, she hadn't thought to have anyone keep track of her time, something to think of in the future, but she wasn't quite as tired, or out of breath as she was when she had first started training like this. She still needed to find some kind of a sparring partner though, getting a bit faster or stronger was nice, but it didn't help as much when she still lacked technique. For now though, a short break, and then she would get back to it

Like Onyxpaw, Drayden's own coming-of-age was approaching soon - a couple days, in fact - though the snow leopard didn't really focus on training his fighting skills very much. He wasn't going to be that much of a fighter, he believed, having a twisted paw and all, and if he got into a fight, he thought that he would just rely on his instincts. Unfortunately for him, that likely wouldn't get him far.

Seeing Onyxpaw running in the distance drew Drayden over, arriving just as the apprentice finished her mini run session. "Hey Onyx." The Cipher greeted, his head tilted as he came over. "What're you doing?"[glow=COLOR,1,400]✧*:・゚[/glow]

BUT YOU WALKED PAST ME LIKE I WASN'T THERE
A SINGLE TEARDROP FALLING FROM YOUR EYE
Not all that often did he not think about training. He was already at the age that he was supposed to be training and another month was coming up. He was almost seven months of age. He was excited if he had to be honest. The thrill of having his first battle buzzing through his body. When would he get the chance? Primarily the Glades seemed to be very peaceful and that was a good thing. But he found it odd that no one had tried to go against them. Maybe they were just too powerful? A small smile pulled at his muzzle at the idea of the Glades being that strong that no one wanted to mess with them. Licking his muzzle the child had just finished eating when he noticed that Drayden was talking to Onyx. He didn't know what it was about but he was curious.

So he got up and buried the remains before he made his way over to them. It seemed that Onyx had been running around the beach if her heavy breathing was anything to go off of. "Are you....running a lot?" He could run with her if she wanted him to. They could have a race or something. Sitting down the child tilted his head, his crown perfectly snug upon his head.

Re: Down to business | Training - Onyxdreams - 05-13-2021

~ ☼ If there was one thing that made training a little bit hard for Onyx to keep at, aside from her lack of fitness making things a bit rougher, it was how slow results were. Oh, she knew she'd get them eventually, but it was always just a bit of a letdown when she came out the next day after working hard and could barely see any kind of difference at all. The soreness was kind of annoying too, but honestly it wasn't all that bad, not when she kept in mind that if she didn't do this she'd end up with worse than just some soreness in the future. Jeez, all this worrying about the future was just going to end up making her feel more stressed too, was this what it felt like to be a grown up, to just worry about everything for no reason? Winter seemed to worry a lot, so maybe there was some logic to that thought.

Ears perking on her head as her name was called, the hybrid turned to face Drayden, straightening herself up from her previous hunched over position. "Eh...getting a bit of training in, just...a bit of a run to get warmed up" she answered in-between breaths, she was pretty sure that should have been kind of obvious, why else would she be running back and forth across the beach? "Got a routine down...so can you tell the difference yet Dray? Cause honestly, I really can't myself" The discens struck a short pose as she asked her question, wings stretched up to reveal a bit more of her body, which she was pretty sure looked the exact same as it always had. She really just wished nature could work a little bit faster, she had a deadline after all!

The next question she received....well, he wasn't wrong in his guess? "Well yea, but I'm doing it for training, to get faster, you know? Build up some muscle, all that fun stuff." There was a good bit of training that she did consider fun, but the running....er, well, it had been kind of fun at first, but then when she did it over and over again, it just got kind of....tedious? It just wasn't really all that fun when it was a routine, though some of the acrobatics stuff she was going to try later would probably be a lot of fun. By the time Winter arrived on the scene, Onyx had managed to get herself collected, breathing back in order, all in all feeling a bit less like she had run back and forth across the beach a dozen times. "Yea, just wanted to be ready, for ah....for being an Immune, cause I kinda suck at fighting right now, so, I thought I'd work on the basics first!"

The question Onyxpaw asked him came as a surprise, so Drayden blinked at first as he tried to comprehend what she asked. "Er, yea. I think so at least?" Drayden responded awkwardly. "How does running help with fighting, though?" Maybe fleeing from a fight, but... maybe getting faster at dodging attacks? Deflecting them? No, that last one didn't seem likely.[glow=COLOR,1,400]✧*:・゚[/glow]
