(O)ut of my league! - Palm Tree Climbing - SirDio - 10-04-2020 Drifting-Feather
The small dinosaur scampered behind her caretaker, a pretty-furred dark brown she-cat named SunDust, as she led her toward a palm tree. The original intent was to get her to explore the ground, where SunDust could easily keep an eye on the little menace of an animal. But SunDust didn't think Drift would try to climb the palm, even if she heard stories of the tiny trouble climbing up into high areas. Unfortunately, Drift had other plans that included having a better arial view of the beach. While SunDust had situated herself under the shade of the palm, Drift set her wild sights on the trunk of the tree. She circled the tree, before seeing that the she-cat beneath the tree was going to be a perfect leap-point. She started to climb on top of SunDust, getting to her head before leaping onto the trunk of the palm. Without hesitation, she started scrabbling up it with mad speed, earning a harsh cry from the caretaker - words she couldn't understand, even though they sounded urgent. Hitting the top of the tree where coconuts lay, she knocked some away and off said tree so she could sit down and look around. SunDust was less than happy about this endeavor, and knew that Drift couldn't really understand her, but she tried to urge the young menace down to no avail. From her perch, she could almost see the ROCKELL and the Palmclan Bar. Almost - the tree wasn't that tall to begin with. In retrospect, it really shouldn't have been a surprise that Drift would turn out to be a bit of a devil. After all, she was young and unique, with traits that allowed her to get ahead of others, and more easily cause chaos. Maybe it was just Rhine's own optimism, or maybe he was just so used to having dinosaurs within the group at this point, but the leader hadn't been expecting Drift's care to be such a hassle. He had meant to give Sundust an easy assignment, not one that would make her never want an apprentice or anything similar. Hopefully, this entire experience wouldn't end up souring Sundust on the apprenticeship process as a whole, since Palmclan would never benefit from less warriors willing to take on kits growing to warriorhood. Then again, it probably wouldn't, considering that most apprentices weren't like Drifting-Feather, who wasn't even technically an apprentice yet.
Sundust's shout of disapproval was what attracted Rhinestonestar towards the palm tree, a soft and worried frown upon the feline's muzzle as he grew close. When he was eventually able to see the top of the palm more clearly, his heart sank, and it was easy to see how Drift was causing an issue. He didn't mind her getting herself a view, but being up so high was dangerous, not to mention how she was tossing coconuts down below. It seemed as though Foamkit and Drift had something in common – getting up to high places and causing chaos. Mindful of this, Rhine made sure to remain a few pawsteps away from the tree, not wanting to be right underneath and risk taking a coconut right into the skull. He raised his voice, shouting up to Drift, "Dr... Drifting-Feather! You shouldn't be up there, it's dangerous! If you fell, you could end up hurting yourself... or someone else." The tom briefly considered trying to scale the palm himself so that he could talk to her more closely – not that such a thing would make her understand any more – but ultimately decided against it. After all, there was only so much space up in the fronds of a palm tree, and more people just meant more opportunities to fall. NEVER OPENED MYSELF THIS WAY LIFE IS OURS, WE LIVE IT OUR WAY — Reggan

Drift looked down to Rhine, seeing Sundust frantically looking at her as well. Her caretaker had given up on trying to coax her down, sending a glare at the small dinosaur, which only made her grin. She wasn't going to get hurt - and she was done with dropping the coconuts. The palm was her perch now! This thought earned her a small cackle at Rhine's words, partially understanding them. She flared her arm feathers toward them, wild eyes shining down on the small-ish beings below. It was meant to display that she had 'wings' and could easily glide down. And she had settled down now; no coconuts had fallen yet! She wiggled in place for a moment before she settled down again, a happy, content chirp coming from her. Sundust looked at the child, then back to Rhine, "She seems to be fine but I'm still worried." Re: (O)ut of my league! - Palm Tree Climbing - number nine. - 10-08-2020
When Nine had initially joined Palmclan, he had figured that it would be a group mainly made up of felines, with only minor mutations or oddities. Of course, when the jaguar ended up seeing that there were dinosaurs amongst them, all of those assumptions were pretty thoroughly thrown in the trash. When he had heard that dinosaurs were practically commonplace around Palmclan, that had just excited him, eager to see what different kinds of reptiles he would be living alongside. Drifting just happened to be the first one he noticed, a grin coming to his muzzle when he saw the small dinosaur tucked within the leaves of the palm tree. Taking a jogging start, Nine launched himself up into the air, his dual pair of wings carrying him up and into the air. He soon came to hover near Drifting-Feather, a laugh leaving him before he rumbled, "Hey there, kid. You're an impressive little one, aren't you? I wish I could've been able to get up so high when I was your age." Number Nine wasn't exactly sure of how old Drifting was, but he could only assume that she was some kind of youngling, considering how small she was. Resting his paws lightly against one of the wide leaves of the palm tree, Nine waited for a response, wondering how Drift would feel about someone being on her level. Hopefully not with hostility, since Nine couldn't exactly just grab her by the scruff of the neck and leave her hanging. During her little maniacal laughing fit, she didn't realize the winged Jaguar until he was already up there. Before he even spoke she let out a panicked squawk, puffing her feathers out to try and look bigger. She displayed her arm feathers again before she realized he meant no harm. Relaxing a small bit, she sniffed at him while he spoke. Unable to understand much of his words, she simply squeaked out her own; "Not bird!" Rhinestone watched as Drifting flared out the feathers of her little arm wings, causing him to sigh and relax slightly. He supposed that she was right about being able to "fly" down, but he still couldn't help the faint anxiety he felt. Thankfully, it seemed as though he wasn't the only one who was concerned. Looking towards Sundust, Rhine sighed softly before he spoke, his tail twitching behind him, "I'm worried too, but I think that she'll be alright. Even if she falls, she can catch herself..." He then watched as Nine went flying up, tensing slightly as he waited to see how Drift would end up reacting. Thankfully, it didn't seem as though she was angry about Nine growing close, something that made Rhine pleased. He snorted when he heard Drifting's new title for the winged jaguar, calling up to her, "I'm not sure that's his name, Drifting..." Of course, he doubted Drift would listen to that, really.

A soft laugh left Nine when Drifting puffed herself up, clearly trying to intimidate him in some way. He waited patiently as Drift sniffed at him, a snort leaving the jaguar before he rumbled, "Not bird, eh? Well I suppose that I am not a bird, although I do have the wings." He shifted his wings around playfully along his spine, teasing Drifting-Feather in a friendly way. As he settled against the palm tree, Nine muttered down to Rhine and Sundust, "I don't mind her calling me that. It's a bit more accurate than Nine, right kid?" He reached a paw out, messing with the crest of Drift's head. HELLBENT ON MAKING YOU LOVE ME TOO Re: (O)ut of my league! - Palm Tree Climbing - SirDio - 10-10-2020 Drifting-Feather
The wild child chittered gently at Rhine's words. Nine's name to her was now 'Not Bird'. She wasn't a bird either, but she had feathers and arms that were specialized for gliding. And Nine liked it, so bonus points! She chittered a bit louder as Nine messed with her head feathers. She looked at Sundust, who seemed just a bit more relaxed now that Nine was up there incase some unholy thing were to happen. "I think she's made a friend." Upon hearing Sundust, Rhinestone felt a soft chuckle bubble up from his chest, leaving him in a glad sounding purr. He was relieved that Drifting had made a friend, and was also glad for the fact that said friend could keep her safe. Despite how different Drift was to most of the children within their group, she was still a child, and Rhine still wanted to ensure that she was safe, above all else. Dipping his head to Sundust to show her that he had heard, he muttered as his tail flicked to and fro behind him, "It does seem like it... that's good. Friends are good for anyone, but especially for rambunctious kids. Right, Drifting?" He glanced up at the youngling, a smile playing on his muzzle as he watched her gliding feathers shifting with the wind.
