A not-so-gentle Breeze -- Drift Intro - SirDio - 09-18-2020

Drifting-Feather

The weeks after the hurricane were bumpy for the small predator - losing her mother within the storm, being stuck in trees for some other time out of fear that she could get stuck in some mud pit and never get out. So she was stuck gliding between trees in the outskirts of the twisted forest, munching at small insects and tree climbing snakes for the past few weeks. She had seen the cats and other creatures that definitely belonged to a group, and would often mimic their meows and other such noises to mess with them. But she was never able to descend down, there were too many of them in a single group, at least 2 at times.

She was resting within one of the outlier oaks of the twisted forest, a slight breeze ruffling her feathers. She copied the chirps of birds and rodents from the forest, luring them nearby incase someone wanted to hunt - and then she'd go down and nip and bite like a maniac.

But until someone showed up, she would stay up there, with the breeze ruffling her feathers

The ceaseless progression, a silent trickle within glass frame, had shown exponential growth, though the direction was not overly favourable. Widened horizons enclosed about shallow valley, for reasons mind too young to parse and thus had rejected with fervor boundaries unheeded when chance arose, no exception this day. Roused from slumber with an exhaust laden caretaker grasping at him with limp paws, battered aside when apparent his desire. She could not be awoken in full and made solitary his wandering, guard ill timed as those who watched the night were replaced with fresh eyes.

Forboding the twisted canopy that stretched well above lifted chin, roving over branches entwined and touched with a frost not yet visited upon the low terrain wide eyes, wonder apparent even as fear too was reflect in uneasy flick of his tail. Closer did he dare to tread, yet progression was only a few steps, halted with a vocalisation meant to ring with rage yet wavered only with terror.

As much as the beach was this place his home, a place ehe must know, still was he at the edge, however. Rather than approach any closer a slow pacing began, at times stopped for a glance to be thrown towards the trees, manner nose scrunched and lips parted a pitiful display all the same he performed it if only to feel a bit stronger in the face of the unknown.

She had caught a glimpse of smaller cats every now and then, usually being steered away from the forest by their older peers. And so, seeing Foamkit doing his best to fearlessly walk into the forest most cats dared not enter. She had moved to look at him - purple eyes shining brightly into the dark.

She copied his vocalization, trying to make it sound normal - but it came out eerily different. Then she made another eerie noise - a strangled 'mrrow?'.

Leaning on the branch she had settled on, Drift waited for Foamkit's response.

Sugarspice tried to make it a point to watch all of the kits in the clan to make sure they didn't get up to no good, so when she had looked through the camp and found Foamkit to not be there, she had followed the child's scent to figure out where they were, a sigh of relief leaving the female as she saw the male with someone else and unharmed. "Hello!" She would call out, smile on her maw as she came forward, ears pricked as she watched the two for a moment, "My name's Sugarspice, I don't think we've met yet, you don't smell of PalmClan, so you must be new or joining right?" Their actions thus far had not caused concern for the senior warrior, and she had seen reptiles such as this one before in their own group.

Oh! So now there's another one! And they're bigger. The micro thief bounced from side to side on the branch, deciding on what to do. She really wanted to nip at the newcomer's ears, like, really wanted to - but was it necessary right now??

Even though she couldn't really understand what Sugarspice was saying, Sugar definitely sounded friendly. Drift let out a crow-like caw, though it was far more squeaky, before bouncing off the branch, settling down on the breeze with her arms and legs spread to glide.

Gently she drifted down, circling the two before landing in front of Sugarspice. God, was the microraptor fucking tiny. She let out a chirp, sniffing at Sugarspice, then bouncing over to Foamkit to sniff him. They seemed too friendly to just nip at yet.

LEADER ❝ RHINE ❞ PALMCLAN
The scent of Foamkit was what also led Rhine away from Palmclan's camp, a small frown upon the leader's muzzle. He normally wouldn't have scolded the boy, but he could tell that there were no other scents accompanying him at first, which meant he had gone out alone. Thankfully, judging by whom he had seen leaving camp just a moment earlier, Sugarspice had already gone to investigate, meaning that Foam wasn't entirely defenseless. When Rhinestone eventually reached where the kit and senior warrior were, however, he found himself stunned by the creature before them. It was definitely some kind of reptile, but it was so small, not to mention the bouncing back and forth, along with the strange noises. Given the fact that he had heard the sound of voices just a moment earlier, he had his doubts about the creature being able to understand them. Despite this, Rhinestone still found himself questioning once he came up beside Suga, "Hello there... are you able to understand us at all? Do you speak our language? Or... any language?" He tilted his head briefly before glanced at Sugar, questioning his senior warrior, "Do you think we should let them in...? They don't seem to be a threat..." He was fairly sure that Drift was a she, but he also wasn't entirely able to tell, considering there weren't many defining traits, nor any voice or words to go off of. He settled for "they" for now, just to be on the safe side.

Fool the one who believes such falsehood as mimicry, and thus upon shoulders may such be placed.

Hush befell for the delicate span of but moments before broken it with call alike, a harsh and high pitch forth rolling along vocal cords unlike his own, warped for such. Once more a halt was staged, confusion settling as mind worked over the oddity, process falling apart with next sound. Unabashedly feline within base inspiration it was, nonetheless, wrong. Involuntary the curl spine made, along strands bristling and standing though the bushed plume his tail had become seemed caught between legs in mannerism very clearly denoting terror.

Loosened tongue during unexpected approach, choked off the hiss that arose, trailing into embarrassed silence as realisation arose. Common the sight of other, though not responsible for the care of any one kitten among their number secondary caretaker to many had she become, turned to in times comfort was needed, presence soothing and inviting. Towards Sugar did Foamkit slowly creep, before her paws settling until craned neck to look back up at her, unsure the grin he wore.

Soon attention drifted, located once more the creature aloft held among the canopy, next vocalisation one not heard before, the harsh cries of gulls all he knew of avian cries. To paws once more did he rush as from her perch did she leap, a surety in actions he lacked and so seized his heart until it stopped for a moment, captivated at the manner she utilised the breeze to assist. Indeed tiny the creature, at least within comparison to senior warrior, closer they when her trajectory changed.

Amusement laced startled laughter and gentle was his push of her snout, the breath expelled with each sniff tickling, though alike would he study her, leaning in and musing the feathers a out her neck with a small, pale nose. Halted this exploration of this stranger other when Rhine approached, forgotten his own wrongful wandering past valley edges, squeaking to him in a high, pleased voice. "Fren!"

She bounced around Foam, chirping gently. Her actions halted as Rhine entered the scene, causing her to bounce to him. Drift sniffed at his feet, halting to preen at her feathers on her arm. She sniffed again, then snorted gently, looking up at Rhine. Despite not having any words to affirm her understanding, she nodded frantically and bounced around him. She was struggling to find words when Foam spoke, squeaky like her. 'Fren'. She looked to him for a second before bouncing in place, flapping her feathered arms wildly. "Fren! Fren!!" Her voice was squeaky, but feminine.

Her wild purple eyes were full of glee, a chaotic glee at that. She preened at her feathers again, then looked at the trio.

LEADER ❝ RHINE ❞ PALMCLAN
Fren. The broken half English uttered by Foamkit and then Drifting was slightly disorienting, but also rather charming. Rhine supposed it was understandable, considering the similarities between the two. In fact, despite not knowing much about Drift's species or how they aged, he wouldn't have been surprised if both Drift and Foam were similar in their age range. The creature seemed like a child in the way she moved and acted, and not like some senseless beast, or force of nature. That alone made Rhinestonestar want to protect her, even if he wasn't exactly sure that he understood her yet. She would hardly be the first beast of her kind that they took in – although thus far all the various dinos they had taken in were different – so that also helped to ease some of his apprehension, albeit very minutely. Allowing his gaze to land on Foamkit first, Rhine chuckled before nodding, saying with a flick of his long and fluffy tail, "Friend... yes, Foamkit, we're friends. It also seems as though we've all made a new friend..." Perhaps if Drift had thus far proven herself to be more volatile, Rhinestone would've been a little bit more worried about her hurting someone. As it was, however, she just seemed... excited.

The leader watched with an impressed gaze as Drifting Feather bounced around him, slightly stunned by the height and speed that the youngling managed to get. He supposed that was what those back legs were for, although once again it was clear that she was still developing. Feeling another protective urge come over him, Rhine nodded before he spoke to Drifting again, "Yeah... friend. We're all friends here. Where did you come from? Do you have any parents...?" The male wasn't actually really expecting an answer, more sort of just talking to the air in front of him, wondering if there were more of Drifting's kind from where she came from. Shaking that thought from his mind for the moment, Rhine hesitated before gesturing a paw in the direction of Palmclan's camp. He pointed quite clearly, speaking slowly and with a sense of emphasis, "Home. Would you like this to be your home? We can keep you safe. And fed. Home...?" He didn't know of his repetition would get through to her as easily as Foamkit's single exclamation had, but he had to try. She deserved a home, especially if she was all alone.

She bounced on her toes as Rhinestone spoke to foam, then directed his words to her. Parents? Yes, Parents. Her mother would have descended by now, but she wasn't there. She turned her head toward the forest, then to the sky. "Forest. Storm." She was struggling to get the words right without distorting them in any way. There was a sad look in her wild eyes for a moment but it was gone quickly.

"Home..? Nest! Home!" She bounced around him again, more or less surprised she was able to understand the word. She chirped happily, flapping her arms a slight bit. Home, Nest, same difference. They were offering such a thing to her, and she would accept without hesitation. She had been in trees for far too long!
