IN A SPIRAL OF ANTS / skipping stones - bubblegum - 08-23-2020

DEAR FRIEND as you know,  your flowers are withering
your mother's gone insane, your leaves have drifted away.
but the clouds are clearing up
and i've come reveling, burning incandescently,
like a bastard on the burning sea.

YOU'RE JUST LIKE YOUR FATHER,
BURIED DEEP UNDER THE WATER.
One thing was for certain: the captain could not return to her home.

Only to cook for her children, watch over them while they slept, otherwise, during the day, she would busy herself on the archipelago they inhabited. That was her real home. The hut only reminded her of death, only brought forth the memories so fresh, cut into her chest, an aching loneliness making its own home within it. Her anchor had been cut away, stormy seas pulling her all around, farther and farther from the shorelines. But she'd lived without it before. The pain was fresh, but she had her means of dealing with it on her own. Anyone who'd known Goldenluxury Roux for a long time would know that her insistent pace, constant work was all part of the process. There would never be enough distractions, though to take it away completely.

Her soothsayer had gone, a reaver as well, and it was her job to fill in those holes. To host sage tryouts, find a new one to take his place. But every time she goes to gather the books, all she can do is stare. And so she fills in herself, traversing the jungles, collecting the herbs she'd gotten to know long ago. She was not a healer, did not ever want to be, but it was something for her to do, and it was something she knew how to do. So she would do it. And so she did.

Though with such a specific task in mind, it was difficult to focus, mind buzzing, noise becoming louder and quieter. The plants she searched for turned to simple colors and shapes, headaches forming and leaving within seconds. The captain was tired, and she had to keep moving, basket in her maw as she collected. Paws pushing forward, moving from the heavily planted jungles to the beaches. They contained their own shares of roots and remedies. And so she moves, paw landing, though without watching its own movement, it lands upon a particularly sharp stone. She drops the basket, lifting her paw in pain instinctively. Shaking it out, she looks down, a fever rushing into her mind. Her paw drops once more, this time pads curling around the stone, and using her grip to throw it. The female watches the stone bounce across the shoreline, eyes narrowing. She moves to pick up the herbs that'd fallen from her basket, when her eyes land upon another stone nearby.

And so another little distraction, little time filler begins. Basket now at her side, the captain simply tosses each rock she finds, watching one bounce farther than another across the water before it finally dips. It was childish, a trick she'd learned a long time ago, has not used since she was much younger, but for now, it worked on her aching head, shaky legs.

After Sam's death, Aphra knew better than to go to the Captain's quarters. She had no need to go there either, so the succubus avoided going near the place altogether. Instead, Aphra more or less hung out in the jungle (and the tavern, but today was a day she spent her time in the jungle), finding comfort in the poisonous plants there. That being said, she hadn't expected to see Goldenluxury out-and-about, especially in the jungle, and so, out of curiosity, Aphra started to follow her.

"Shouldn't you be doing something, I don't know... more productive, Captain?" Aphra's voice came in a sneer, mocking manner, her eyes narrowed at the tigress as she tossed rocks into the ocean. What a wasteful activity, especially considering how Goldie should be focusing on other things - at least, in Aphra's mind.[glow=COLOR,1,400]✧*:・゚[/glow]

If I fall, get knocked down, pick myself up off the ground
The sound of skipping stones was unfamiliar to the tiny dealer.  A strange resounding impact.  Her ears perked in curiosity as she padded over, letting the sound wash over her for a moment.  Strange.  Almost calming.

That is until a snarky voice reached her alongside it.  The petite fae wasted no time, teeth bared in fierce distain.  So Caesar's daughter wanted to be just as much as an ass as him.  Fine.  Keona's tail lashed.  It seemed Ciphers were only worth drama and Goldenluxury didn't deserve that right now.  "Don't you have anythin' better to do than judge everyone 'round ya like some prissy bitch?  You're no princess, so get off your high horse 'an find something productive to do yourself if you're finding this so lacking."

//Retro pregnancy thread ofc

"At least I don't have a group to lead." Aphra shot back at Keona, her eyes narrowed down at the smaller feline, baring her teeth right back at the Dealer. "I can do whatever the hell I want, considering it's not my job to be doing anything." Hell, there was nothing really to do, was there? Especially since everything from the meteor was mostly cleaned up at this point.[glow=COLOR,1,400]✧*:・゚[/glow]

Re: IN A SPIRAL OF ANTS / skipping stones - ROXANNE R. - 08-24-2020

me dejaste, me dejaste en un tango
Roxanne was next to approach letting out a rather loud growl to warn Aphra to watch her tongue or at this point, the Officer would rip it out. "Good thing, you don't either. You're a shitty individual, mother, and so much more. Anyone with any brain cells would uproar and want you overthrown. You'd make a shitty leader and that's just facts, hon." The last part dripping from her jaws like venom though she would move away from the stark feline and make her way over to her niece with both ears pricked forward. "It's probably stupid but... How did you get it to skip like that?" She wished to spend more time with Goldie... Not as Captain and one of their assistant deputies... But like family and this would be the best step for it.

It was probably something simple but Roxanne was uncertain when it came to skipping stones, she picked up one of the rocks looking at it rather thoughtfully only to chuck it at the water only to flinch at the loud splash, some of the water droplets hitting her chest. Oops. That probably wasn't how it was done but hopefully, it would be enough to lighten the mood that Aphra had tried to ruin.

Approaching quietly, Sea's eyes lingered on each of the gathered members, rolling his eye's Aphra's presence. He walked to be beside his mother, nuzzling into her side. "Hi. Momma! whatcha doing?" he would ask. As Aphra once again made a comment, he snapped his head to look at her. Did she never learn? With a lash of his tail, a massive stream of water lifted from the ocean and attempted to splash down on the white feline.

That was the thing, about anchors, they were temporary things: for a boat was meant not to stagnant at the shore but to float, to drift across the ocean. It was why they were built: the fact that the typhoon had it’s own boat was only a matter of time before it set off again. It’s anchor pulled back into the giant construction, and set from port again.

Law, honestly didn’t patrol most of the jungle, he preferred the beaches and the well carved paths throughout. It was easier to find his way, to keep from getting lost. There was little need to go through the jungle but to seek the soothsayer: who had recently retired. Roan was kind, genuine if a little tired. Now the temple was silent: quiet and a great place to retreat to when Lawkit needed the quiet: to read or to… escape.

It did not come as a surprise to see his mother out and about: it was an often that she would be doing one thing or another. Never staying at home for less than keeping tabs on him and his siblings, when law managed to finally crash to sleep it was never at home. Momma must’ve noticed it. It was more often that He found the raptor- ament making the rounds around the temple and was pushed towards a shredded bed to sleep.

While frustrating at first, it was necessary. He couldn’t find sleep when he watched his siblings, couldn’t find it in himself to sleep at home. So the temple was the next best option.

When he spotted the group- and it was a group now. He saw momma skipping stones: the scent of herbs tucked in the basket by her side, and such volatile spitting around her. Grey eyes skittered over the group- over the open hostility and Lawkit swallowed, self conscious his own wings tucked tightly to his sides- he made a beeline towards his mom. Moving to hunch under the folded wing of their captain and stare out as she skipped stone. Staying quiet, he saw no reason to speak, couldn’t even if he wanted to.

Re: IN A SPIRAL OF ANTS / skipping stones - GEORGIA. - 08-24-2020

Georgia wasn't far from her mentor on the beach; she was eyeing her every now and again, using her movement and actions to keep herself from slipping into another dissociative episode. There was only so much Geo could do to prevent them, but at least this way she got to knock out two birds with one stone. Goldie had gone through so much in the past couple weeks...Georgia couldn't help but wonder if her life had always been like this; exhaustion after exhaustion, week after week. She'd seen the way the Captain could hardly go into her own house. For a brief moment, Georgia wondered how the kids were taking it.

When people started to surround Goldie and converse with her, Georgia's brain convinced her she could no longer use observation as a method of grounding. After all, Goldie had someone else to watch out for her now. Georgia, desperate to keep her own mind away from itself and spitting up images of her tortured father, quickly opted to join the group.

Upon arrival, she decidedly knocked her shoulder against Seapaw, a little roughly; such was their standard greeting. She had missed what Aphra had said, but thought it should be left alone given that Sea was already dousing her with briny water. "Aphra, I love what you've done with yourself," She chirped, eyes glittering. "I didn't know soaking wet was the new trend. It looks good on you! Really brings out the empty, lifelessness of your eyes."

[glow=grey,1,400]FOR ONCE, WHY CAN'T YOU JUST COME AND CHASE ME ?。+゚.[/glow]
Ugh, Roxanne. Aphra rolled her eyes upon hearing the Officer's voice, gritting her teeth as the other female spoke.
"Good thing I don't ever want to be leader then, huh?" She shot back. Truly, Aphra didn't care about whether or not she was a leader; she just wanted to be adored. She wanted to be known by everyone, given the attention she deserved - and while being a leader would help with that, Aphra knew the stress of it all wasn't worth it.

Aphra didn't look over at Seapaw and Lawkit as they came over, and it didn't prepare her for Seapaw's attack. Perhaps if she actually took notice of him, she would've seen him flick his tail but unfortunately for her, she had no time to react before water crashed over her. When the wave cleared, Aphra was on the ground, sputtering and coughing, her ears flattened against her head. "Haha, very funny." She hissed at Georgia, looking over at her whenever she offered her condescending comment. "Piss off."[glow=COLOR,1,400]✧*:・゚[/glow]

Funny, that Aphra would be first to approach the female in her activity. What came next was predictable, to be expected. And the female didn't seem to mind it all too much at this point, sticking to her task, allowing others to make their own comments. The outburst from Keona was surprising - she knew the small dealer had more than enough power to fight, but she didn't expect her, too, to lash out at Aphra in Goldie's defense. It was almost endearing, they'd know each other their whole lives, but didn't talk much outside of business and general public interactions. Still, the tigress keeps focused on her activity. Aphra's opinions had never much mattered to her in the first place, and while she was usually one to fight back regardless, today she didn't feel like it. Didn't desire feeding into the female's need for attention, good or bad.

The others, clearly, were speaking enough to fill that necessity anyway.

The more family that did approach, the easier it felt to breathe. The distraction felt easier. Lawkit's shelter under her wing would cause her to shift, pulling it closer. "Is' an ancient time-waster known as skipping stones," Goldie answers Seapaw first, offering a slight tease at the edge of her tone. Then, was her aunt asking how to do it. "Jus' gotta throw the rocks a certain way," she answers lightly to Roxie's question - the type of rock mattered too, but she wouldn't bother mentioning that unless someone tried to throw a pointed rock expecting it to bounce. "They need t' spin when you throw them, n' keep 'em as flat as you can." The female explains further with a nod.
