The demon couldn't help but glare at the rock he passed as if the voice came from beside him. A click of his tongue verbalized his annoyance as pointed ears flicked, the abrupt movement causing the red flame that burned at the end to falter. He paid no attention to the voice in his head that now giggled and apologized for stating the obvious, an action that only fueled his irritation. Large, sturdy claws gripped the soft ground under him and with every step he unearthed it. Pacing back and forth, he eventually created a subtle path a few meters long that lead to nowhere. He was nervous but hearing it from someone else wasn't what he needed. He likes to think he has every right to be nervous. A lot of things must have changed since his long absence and though integrating back wont be as difficult in comparison to when he first joined, there was always the possibility that he could blow it. First impressions were important after all. More than nervous, he was more scared about interacting with others. You see, Ren's strength wasn't socializing- at least, not in a friendly way. Standing at the top commanding a group of individuals or talking down to others was a scene all too familiar. But the Eurasian lynx is proud to say he's moved on from that chapter of his life and doing his best to pave a new path for himself. Speaking to others is a huge aspect of that and the fear he felt towards slipping back into a tyrannical tone made the hair along his neck rise. "Coward." The teasing murmur warranted yet another glare, this time aimed towards the ground. His short tail lashed as he muttered under his breath, "Are you finished?" The small flames that danced around his heavily scarred form died and relit continuously- a sign of his unstable and newly acquired fire ability so graciously (not) given to him by the annoying voice in his head. Anatole's quiet laugh echoed in his cranium as a sigh passed through the demon's lips. Though he was irritated by their previous statements, he couldn't help the twinge of content upon hearing the other's chuckle. It was almost as if they were a different person. When they met, Anatole was laying on their side surrounded in flames that burned pathetically. Their frame was lined with untreated wounds and eyes swollen shut. The horse, though massive in size, looked as frail and weak as the flames that stood guard around them. Ren wasn't sure if Anatole ignored him at first or if they were too exhausted to lift their head. But when they spoke, something stirred within him and the voice that's been guiding him for months finally had an identity. There laying before him amongst orange flames and drifting embers, the lynx's dark red optics rested on a dying god. Wasting no time, the fire god called him over and with haste he obeyed. Anatole's breathing was laboured and with every strained word that escaped their mouth, Ren felt his throat become raw as if he'd been screaming for hours. They explained with every passing day, keeping themselves conscious grew more challenging and they could feel their lungs failing. The form they currently hold was finally decaying after uncountable decades of use. They were careless and did not seek another vessel until they found themselves unable to walk, their aching bones growing stiff. They needed a strong body to take refuge in while they recovered as they used the energy they didn't have trying to keep their form from ripping apart. The skeptical expression Ren wore in his face made the horse exhale through their nose in amusement but remained silent after that. Of course they could take his body by force, but should he decline Anatole wouldn't fight. Instead they would simply nod their head and wait for death to take them. Clearly things didn't work that way else Ren wouldn't be pacing back and forth telling them to stop talking. "You're wasting time, Ren. I'll count down for you so let's get started already." Their voice, though kind, was laced with impatience causing the ruddy lynx to sigh. "That will not be necessary," he starting, rolling his broad shoulders. "I got it." There was a soft hum in response as Ren bit the inside of his mouth. It is just like a bandage, he thought to himself as he started towards camp. No warning, just rip it off. He ignored the way his stomach twisted and turned and decided to blame it on hunger to distract himself. It seemed to work in the beginning but as the town came into view, his resolve wavered. Still the demon pressed on, large paws creating slight imprints in the soft ground. He had rejoined a few days prior but he made no attempt to make himself known to the others who reside here. As much as he enjoyed keeping to himself, he was more fond of interacting with others as he held some pride in his social development. Steeling his nerves, Ren sat down somewhere not in the way of the other members and inhaled slowly. Mulling over what he wanted to say only left his brain a scrambled mess and decided it was best to wing it. "Hey-" He cut himself off when it came out quiet and awkward. Lucky, it was too pathetic for anyone to hear so instead of several creatures giggling it was only Anatole's laugh that resonated in his head. Feeling his face grow hot and shaking the disgusted scowl off, he started again. Properly this time. "Meet and greet, anyone?" His deep voice carried well causing several of the members to look in his direction and trot over. With a polite dip of his head, the large feline introduced himself. "It is nice to meet you. I am Renegadeanthem, though you can call me Ren" Re: it will rain ;; reintroduction - DELILAH. - 08-21-2020 DELILAH EVERGARDEN "The Gods have forsaken us."
Could you be my fairy tale?
The question once rang true in the draconic being's head, naive knowledge running circles until they grew tired. Pretending to be naive was useless at this point, with what Delilah had been through- she had been loyal to Tanglewood since many years back, and her loyalty never wavered. Not even in the face of love. Cold, painful, heart-wrenching love. It connected instantaneously the moment Renegadeanthems had arrived into the Tanglewood camp, their mental bond that proved that they were indeed soulmates of some kind. A painful reminder that she shared his emotions and thoughts. His ambitions, his intentions. She could tell truth from lie with him, and that terrified the faerie. Smoke rolled past pastel lips as the wyvern turned her head to the sound of the felidae's call, not believing what she saw until a second glance was made. And then the flashbacks flickered behind pastel eyelids, of chains and metal bars- of screaming, of the smell of blood. The sight of ripped fae-like wings, of wingless creatures of scottish faekind. It was far past those days, the slavery still a rotten flavor on her tongue. And then eyes of violence, a body so dark it blended in with the shadows of the place she was kept- so scared, so young. And yet, the man had a grin on his face, disgustingly so. The flashback intentionally was sent to flicker past the other mans own vision, Delilah's presence making itself known ever so silently as the femme walked over. Sharp claws seeped into the mud below her paws, squelching and breaking the twigs beneath without much issue. It was far too soon for her to say anything, too dumbfounded by his existence- his return, back to a place where he had promised to stay with her. With Flint. Flint. Loss of a child. "Oh, what a poor little thing. He's come back." Pain flickered behind magenta hues, delicately bandaged wing brought to her side- for once, her head wasn't lowered in submission- it was raised, however neutral the air around her was. Lilith was enjoying the bubbling aggression inside of the woman, feeding on the negative emotions she dripped like a faucet. Pain. Pain. Pain. This man smelled different. Lilith could detect the smell of a God, the hiss of her dissatisfaction a hint to what would inevitably go down. She was a cruel demon, Lilith. "Welcome back, Ren." It was simple enough, yet the words dripped silent poison. The calm before a storm, hesitance to believe what was right in front of her. Memories glitched, overlapping before she dazed off into nothingness. Sickness couldn't be cured if it infected the brain. Oh, how Vigenere knew the pains of loyalty when it came to something you were supposed to pledge your loyalty to, versus someone you loved. Athena was a good example of this back home; Vigenere had fallen in love with the princess during his time in the King's Guard, but in a way, he almost felt like he was betraying his siblings. If he got married to her, he would eventually rise to be King - and while that would help his family out, Vigenere likely wouldn't have time to really bond with them. He missed his family a lot, and sometimes wondered if it was a good thing that he had been drafted into the Guard. He wondered if Caesar was still causing trouble, or if the youngest triplet had finally grown up and was trying to help their parents out. A lot of Caesar and Vigenere's verbal fights were about his relationship with Athena, after they had been exiled, but Vigenere paid no mind to Caesar's outbursts, believing that his brother was just acting out for not getting his way. He had always done that. And eventually, it seemed Vigenere's loyalty to Athena is what got her killed - seeing as it was Caesar who ripped out her throat right in front of Vigenere. Renegadeantheum. The name was familiar to the Luminary, and his gaze flickered over to the lynx who called out for a meet-and-greet. Vigenere turned back to the NPC he had been talking to and excused himself, deciding to introduce (or reintroduce?) himself to Ren - who had joined recently. A shame Vigenere hadn't met him at the border, but that was nothing to fret over. "Hey Ren." The savannah spoke, dipping his head slightly in greeting. "Vigenere Cipher, the Luminary here." Was it odd to introduce his name like that, especially considering he felt as if he had met Ren before? Regardless, even if they had met previously, it was likely Vigenere had not held the position he did now. "Have you been settling in alright?"[glow=COLOR,1,400] ━ ✧*:・゚[/glow] Re: it will rain ;; reintroduction - cavalrychoir - 08-23-2020 [align=center][div style="border-width:0px; width: 60%; text-align: justify; font-family: verdana; font-size: 8pt; line-height: 140%;word-spacing:-1px;"]Both his heart and mind weren't prepared for the situation he knew would arise. He knew he'd need to face her at some point but he never anticipated it would be so soon. Was it soon though? He's been here for a few days now though his presence could be found out in the territory. Since his arrival, this was the first time he had step foot back into camp. His mind was scrambled with thoughts and questions though he spoke nothing of it, afraid of the emotions tied with it; weary of what he may discover about himself. But he couldn't keep running, could he? All he did was run and he acknowledged that. Ren was large and hardened by countless battles. He knows all too well the snapping of bones and blood on his teeth. The feeling of something smaller struggling underneath him and how they would slowly lose all strength until they stopped moving. He's faced foes twice his size and came out victorious- broken, bloodied and bruised, and barely alive... But victorious. Dark red orbs have gazed at murder and pillage with triumph as if everything was a game. And to him, it was. Collect as many others as possible, convert as many as possible, kill as many as possible. There was no limit or discretion in his actions and he didn't care. But now, that was all he thought about. Ren feared speaking to someone in a way that would elicit a harsh negative reaction- especially if he wasn't trying to be rude or intimidating. Though he would hold himself together, his eyes would surely start to water. He's caused so much pain and strife, then and now. "Coward." Though originally a playful jest from his companion, the male felt his stomach twist. They weren't wrong. He couldn't be honest, could he? The person he swore to protect, he's caused the most harm to. Not just him, but he allowed others to do it as well and yet she's met him with nothing but kindness. In the back of his mind, he knew what they had wouldn't last. He knew something was going to happen that would tear her away from him- nothing so perfect would last forever. It clung to his mind like wet fabric and made him just as uncomfortable too. He long decided that should that day come, he wouldn't be upset because that's how things were for him. It wasn't like he deserved her anyways. It was a selfish to entertain the thought of having her to himself... A cruel one too. After leaving her side so many times, he upheld his promise of always returning but after the wear and tear her put on her heart and mind, he doubted that meant anything anymore. And if it did, it shouldn't. The corners of his mouth turned up slightly in a faint smile, growing slightly nervous towards those introducing themselves. He was content though, finally being able to speak with another creature after so long. Sure he had Anatole but nothing could compare to speaking with someone face to face, watching the way their eyes would shift or the way their expression could change in mere seconds. Ren bit down on the inside of his mouth in attempt to keep himself grounded and not excuse himself from the small group. He wanted to stay a bit longer not only because of the previously mentioned first impressions but in case any familiar faces wanted to drop by. The demon was desperate to not look as awkward as he felt, rolling his shoulders to ride himself of sore muscles when in reality, he needed to move to keep himself sane. He really wasn't the most social person and constantly needed to check himself as to not come off as dominating. And as if on cue, a flood of memories flickered before his eyes. Memories of abuse, screams mixed with laughter, the clanking of shackles, the overbearing smell of blood and sight of carnage... This scene was familiar but the viewpoint was all wrong. He wasn't in the cages. He- His blood ran cold at the sight of faerie wings. Their backs stained with blood as their wings were ripped and tossed to the side. Why was he remembering this now? Of all the times to recollect such a horrid memory. Was it because he was thinking of Delilah? Is she here? And as if manifesting that energy, seconds later he watched as Delilah strode over to them. Although her appearance has changed, the giddy feeling what welled up inside him remained. What should he say? Should he apologize for his sudden departure? Gods, he had so much to tell her. She had to be confused and maybe mad. Ren wouldn't blame her if she was mad. In fact, he would be shocked if she wasn't considering she has every right to be. Giving himself a shake, he pushed aside the sudden memories for now. He kept his gaze and expression even as she approached, though he could be seen shifting his weight from paw to paw in what could only be described as happiness. She looked amazing, right? It wasn't just him? What happened to her wing? Is she in pain? If he'd known that, he would have went to her instead to save her the trouble of walking around. When she stopped before him, he offered her a kind smile though it was met with nothing. "Welcome back, Ren." The lynx's eyes widened for a second as what could be described as a grimace flashed on his face before his previous neutral expression returned. All good things must come to an end. How cruel that he was the one to be the cause of it. To kill something so sweet and caring. A bond woven so deep between them Ren would go so far to even call it Fate. Her greeting, from an outside perspective was normal but to him, he felt like he was being burned alive. The venom coating her words ate away at his skin and bones, devouring Renny but leaving Ren behind. He swallowed back the lump that formed in his throat and ignoring the questions Anatole bombard him with, he replied calmly. "Thank you, Delilah." He held her gaze, feeling and accepting the anger that burned under magenta irises. He remained silent as he held her gaze a moment longer before suddenly jumping to his paws, the sudden realization hitting him hard. "You-" he stopped, permanently slotted pupils fell to his large paws as he searched for the words. "You know now, right?" He asked, lifting his head. "I was looking through your eyes." He was stating the obvious but he wanted to let her know he received the memories and understood. He sat back down, wishing they could continue this somewhere else but it appears that won't be possible. "I... wanted to tell you but I was not sure how. I am sorry." That wasn't good enough, he knew that. Nothing he could say or do will ever convey the sincerity behind his words. As he felt the lump in his throat grow, his ear flicked involuntarily when a familiar voice spoke up. Ah... Did Vigenre not remember him? For a moment, he let his mind explore the possibilities of how this may be but decided it mattered little. Though he was concerned for the other and how something like this may occur, he liked Vigenre. He didn't mind reintroducing himself and befriending him once more. The two didn't have as much history as he did with Delilah but here's to hoping that will change. Ren would dip his head in greeting, echoing his words. "Luminary?" Did they change the ranks? He's been gone a while so he's definitely a bit behind. "I apologize but may I ask about the ranks? It must have changed since my last stay." He responded, a small smile parting his lips. It was a kind gesture but truthfully, it was all he could muster right now. "But I have been settling in alright, thank you for asking." It was quite peculiar holding a normal conversation after his and Delilah's but it was a nice change of pace for his brain. Ah, so it seemed that Renegadeanthem had been here before; Vigenere felt idiotic at reintroducing himself and mentally cursed at himself for not remembering Ren. Maybe this was the side effect of Silent's mental mindfuckery bullshit. Whatever, Vigenere mentally shook his head to shrug off his worries. "Oh yeah, I never considered that to be honest." Vigenere let out a half-hearted laugh, accidentally showing his embarrassment. "Luminary is leader, basically. What all do you remember about the old ranks? I can try and compare our old ranks to our new ones." He offered.[glow=COLOR,1,400] ━ ✧*:・゚[/glow] Re: it will rain ;; reintroduction - cavalrychoir - 08-25-2020 [align=center][div style="border-width:0px; width: 60%; text-align: justify; font-family: verdana; font-size: 8.5pt; line-height: 140%;word-spacing:-1px;"]Ren shook his head as a small smile graced his features, a subtle gesture to reassure the other there was nothing to be embarrassed about. He knew the other wasn't the same person from before. Rather, he was but there was something that wasn't right though he couldn't explain what it is. Perhaps a type of memory loss? Either way, Ren didn't hold it against him. "I see." He nodded, making note of the change. There was a small pause as the male thought about his inquiry before responding. "That would definitely be helpful. I don't remember much as it has been a while," he started brows furrowed as he searched his brain. "but I can recollect the first rank being a 'Chaser' and used as a steppingstone. The next is a 'Guardsman' and the leader was called the 'General.'" He finished with a nod of his head, as if agreeing with his own words. Vigenere was fortunate enough that whenever he returned to Tanglewood, the ranks had mostly stayed the same - in fact, he didn't believe it had changed at all. He listen to Renegadeanthem's reply, nodding in understanding. "General is Luminary now, as I mentioned." He meowed. "Our second-in-command is Shadow Reaper, while assistant deputies - I believe you may have known them as Captain of the Guard - are now Reapers. They can specialize in different fields and are essentially the heads of those fields." He hoped that made sense. "Underneath them is Vassals - essentially Guardsmen as you knew them. Chaser is now known as Shaderunner and is a stepping stone just like Chaser was." A small pause. "I think Sawbone was a rank whenever you were around? It was the medic position, but I've instead changed it to be a semi-high position for those interested in medicine." Such as Delilah.[glow=COLOR,1,400] ━ ✧*:・゚[/glow] |
