it was a strange feeling to have been announced as such. for almost three years, august had prided himself as being 'untouched'. he worked solely for the pitt in and of itself, using his keen sense of smell to deter fresh and tainted prey apart. to assess mold in certain suspicious areas. to sniff out any pests that needed to be eradicated. his nose had given him more purpose than one could think; and day by day he was used for these tasks time and time again.

file out the prey here. what's bad goes to your kind.

someone reported rats in the temple, sniff out the nest and we'll give you your dinner.

hey! this food is obviously clear, we just brought it in. are you trying to steal?

it was overwhelming to think that now those days were... well. they were gone. kydobi had promised him no jobs or work. he could have friends. he could be free yet not targeted by the ones who will soon officially break the chains.

the terrier had been cheerfully trotting about in camp with one of the fattest field mice he had ever gotten his paws on, scandolously devouring it in front of others and practically basking in their disapproving scowls. there was nothing they could do about it. kydobi had made it clear auggie was not to be touched. that he was protected.

his meal had been rather pleasant, though his hunger clearly got to him. by the time redvox approached, auggie was chewing the marrow out of the bones, something his mother had taught him as a pup to do so not to waste any bit given.

august was still very much on his high from kydobi's claim. while it was not as much of a surprise, since the marauder had told him of his plans, there had still been a small sliver of doubt in the terrier. kydobi owed him absolutely nothing, yet here he was. giving the terrier a comfortable home, guaranteed meals and permission to act and think on his own. he could read out in the sun, no longer using the small holes within the caves to catch moonlight upon the words.

when the strange hybrid approached, attack was not auggie's first thought. from the clear expression on his face, august assumed that vox was one of the few simply approaching him to speak. the terrier smiled at him, nodding his head.

"yeah! it's a really weird feeling, but i like it. i've been here... a long time." two years. far too long for someone to still have such an upbeat character. "this is the first time i've gotten to do any of this. so i wanna do it all real fast in case its taken away." always prepared for the worst case scenario.

"what's your name, though? i don't think i've seen you around; i would've remembered for sure." never mind the fact redvox was a hybrid, auggie had never seen a goat before.
