The Sink Hole. A treacherous place that was filled with more vegetation, lush and rare in nature, than the rest of the lands around it. It was filled with death traps that took many a life over time. Sinking sands that swallowed the unaware. Lately, without her husband to protect her, she had found herself here. No trespassers could make it to her without running a risk most would never dare. She made her den here as she waited for his return. He said he would find her no matter what. So, she waited for him here. It was her place of safety, though it marred her once glowing fur with blood and sand. She was still fragile in her looks, but those eyes of blood and amethyst still held that same look. The one that led many a soul to stray to their very death.

Elvira missed him more than life itself. The vampiric queen longed for the very man that made her disfigure another woman. He was her voice of reason. The one that kept her from killing with no remorse. Julius was her everything and she had killed so many for him. His family to give him the power he craved. That woman for trying to take him. She killed her former suitors to prove a point to him. He chose her and she proved her worth every chance she got. She knew he could do better than her. There were prettier women. Stronger. More controlled. Yet, he chose her.

So, when he said wait, she waited. Her wings of bat like nature folded about herself. Hugging herself as she was in need of comfort. Where are you my love..? She wished she knew.

It had been a strange interaction that brought her this far into the cold and snow, an even stranger interaction awaiting the woman. Breath misting around her muzzle in the chilled night air, whiskers dewy with her own breath. Her sides ached with the effort of traveling here, guided by the written word of a small gray tom cat, one who smelled of roses and the undeniable hint of smoke. Breath catching as a pained groan left her, limping along the barely-trodden path, eyes trained on the trees ahead of her where she could make out flickering lights. She could only pray it was someone that lived out this far into the woods, and not some ill-made spirit. Steps staggering under the burden of her own battle hammer, cursing her luck. Of course she just had to be ambushed on her way back to report that her job had been completed, minus her partner, left for his own homelands to check on his father who they had received word had been grievously injured.

The journey back to their base had been fairly easy, until she was about a two day travel from the outpost. She had been attacked by four dark figures in the early nighttime and had escaped after a fierce scrap. The battle had left her bloody and sore, aware that she bore broken bones and broken flesh, her nose dripping now, though she didn't know if it was blood or snot. Pausing to gather her breath before continuing on. By the time that she had reached the lights she'd seen from afar, she knew that her informant had been correct. There was at least someone who lived out here, and she didn't quite have the strength to walk up the stairs leading to the front porch of the cabin. Groaning as she felt the world wobble once again, sitting down roughly under the lit trees, chest heaving as she shouldered out of the harness her hammer was attached to. Letting it drop to the ground, she braced her forelegs with a rasping, "Shit." as she let her head drop to her chest, closing her eyes to stop the world from spinning.

She didn't know how much time had slipped past her until she opened her eyes again, a light dusting of snow across her shoulders and back, ears flicking the annoying chill away. Looking up to the cabin, it seemed that the homeowner had not yet noticed their impromptu visitor. Now what had that tiny tom told her to say to the homeowner? Whatever it was, she just needed to get to the cabin. It was a bit rude to appear now with the sun long below the horizon, but she supposed she had very little other choice. As she dragged herself to her paws, picking up her hammer and carrying it by the shaft, trotting heavy paws along the path lit by the trees, slight blood splatters spilling onto the dirt and snow, a clear path for any that might follow. Survival had brought her here, though her wounds had been bandaged by her informant, leaving her with some yellow petals of a sort to show the homeowner. Something along the lines of showing she was sent by someone that the homeowner knew? She just hoped it worked. Hesitating as she came to the steps of the cabin, wondering if it was right to climb and knock, but she would rather deal with an irate homeowner now than in the morning. Taking a breath and setting down her hammer, she trudged up the steps with some difficulty, wings and legs trembling with the effort of moving. Licking her lips and whiskers, raising a shaking paw to rap on the door once, twice and then thrice before sitting down heavily on the stoop, ears drooping with the exhaustion of her journey to some place safe to hide for a while.

There was an exhaustion sewn deep into his bones by time, a weariness that the mute man hadn't expected in years. Time had taken many things from the man, too many for him to be too welcoming of strangers and the troubles that brought them forth. He could not make sense of the weariness in his bones, so lost in his duties for the last year or so that his purpose had all but left him. Some part of him yearned for the joy of younger days and years, a sense of life in every movement. Today, he was burdened down by so many things he knew not how to handle. What he wouldn't give to throw it all away and travel the lands again, with little concern for what might get messed up in his travels. He wished so fervently to be free, to decide his own path again.

It had been months now, since the once tied-down merchant shed his memories in search of fresh beginnings, leaving the pains behind. He had left the lands he had settled long before, leaving the memories of a pained childhood and adulthood, the sole survivor of his own blood and kin, a widower and a servant of the Gods. Or so it had been. The Dark Smith was on the move, leaving behind the pains and misery of the life he had known for so long, the life he had once before cherished. He would start anew, a brand new tale to keep when the tale he had led had abandoned him. He was never truly alone, not so long as the ghost of his mentor haunted him with vivaciousness. Poor thing, that, being able to see and hear the spirits of the dead. It was an ability he had long learned to ignore, to move on with despite its interferences.

Time now found the Smith, a tired mess of a traveler seeking shelter under a weeping willow, the scent of other animals long stale, suggesting he was alone in the area save for the birds and prey animals. His back and body ached for the long day's travel, carrying the weight of his bags had made him sore and raw in some spots and parts.

Standing now between the twisted roots of the willow, easing the weight of the bags from his tender shoulders with a deep breath and sigh of relief. It felt good to be free of the weight, the raw skin stinging at the brush of air, the fur rubbed down to skin in the bonier places. He would have to settle here for some time to let his pains heal, and perhaps he could sell to passing creatures, sell off some of the heavier items in his packs. Looking around, he made a mental list of what he would need to get comfortable and settle in for a while.

His waterskin was empty, and the telltale whisper of water over rocks nearby gave hope of drink and if he was lucky, food and bath. He was objectively filthy and the only thing that smelt nice about the gray tom was the mane of yellow roses that seemed to sprout from nothing about his neck. Crouching to grab his waterskin, the wanderer would leave the shelter of the willow and descend a slight hill, tracing the sound of where to its source. Before his paws lay a stream, rich plants growing along its edges and the freshness of the water making the air itself smell nearly delightful. Trodding to the water, aching and cracked pads stinging at the caress of pebbles, the chill of the water be-lying the season and giving Aesior cause to shiver as he stuck his paws into the weak current closest to the shores. There he stood, gathering water in the waterskin and letting his hurting paws cool before he would dare attempt to wade in further. Head tipping up the great blue and vast sky, a sense of peace and warmth encompassing him. Ear twitching now at what he thought was a voice, gaze changing to glance the horizon.

Cain came slow from the Northern Mountains, dust settling deep into his coat. The particles of dirt were practically everywhere on him when he moved, each crevice was not without it's dry dirt! When he shook out his coat, a plume of dust appeared on the wind. Not that he honestly minded, because in the end it was the dry dirt that helps to protect his skin.

The cattle would low loudly as they came across the valley, the three black and red Angus moving slow under Cain's careful eye. The single red cow was the one hooked to the cart today. Cain hummed softly over the clatter of the wheels as they moved to keep the beasts calm. He still found himself in quite a place of shock. A whole three moon he has been on his own-- and now, he's stumbled into some new land-- that he was sure of- but where, what was here?

He lets the thought float around his head as the four move quietly through a tall field. Cain let the cattle graze idly as they walked- he had no where to be. His silver eyes turn to the sky, admiring the last flickers of reds and oranges in the sky as the sun started to set. Cain makes a soft chucking sound, making the cattle come to a slow halt, and Cain went over to the red- where at first he tries to use his Telekinesis powers, but finds them to be...not working? Cain growled softly to himself. How could this be!? He tries again and gets the same affect. Spitting mad the Cowboy tries to remain calm as he unhooks the wagon from the cow.

It took a lot more time than normal, doing thing the Manuel way-- but his tent was well..rough for ware, but it was up! Cain huffed as he pulled out an elk hide from the cart and placed it inside of his tent. It would would be a long night-- but, he had the stars at least.

ooc:: the only 'important' paragraphs for those who want to post are the last two -- everything above that is filler

Byriath raised a weary head from his fur-bed, blinking away a blissful dream. Light filtered from his nearby window, filling the room with ambient lighting. It all seemed so peaceful, and yet, so empty. Without them, the room felt cold. He felt cold. Yet, he hid it behind a blank gaze as he stood and stretched his mighty form - of dark grey fur and glowing purple swirls over his shoulders and hips, marred with scars from wars and fights passed. The corner mirror met his gaze.

His face was similar to his body - robust, powerful, intricate glowing purple lines and markings surrounded his eyes, fiendish ram horns curling from behind his ears, black at the base and purple at the tips, ribbed with the same purple glow. Alabaster tusks curled from behind great saber fangs, a show of great terror and yet, used for tilling earth. His eyes, ancient and foreboding with a myriad of purples, were blank and dull.

With a tiring groan, he moved out of the bedroom and down the hall to the living space - once full of life and younglings, and now, home to him and his son only. After their passing, the other children left to live on their own. His son, Theseus, stayed behind to help tend the gardens in the warm months and defend the home in the cold. The fireplace along the far side had gone cold, with no embers, and Byriath seemed to shudder. Rolling his muscled shoulders, he grabbed a few chunks of firewood and set it alight with a purple blaze, watching it turn to a warm orange once out of his control.

He stayed there for what seemed like hours, but only minutes truly, until he heard the door open. His eyes snapped over, a glimmer of hope in them, that quickly was drowned by grief and sorrow at the sight of his son. Them and Theseus looked so similar, from their eyes to their smiles.

"Morning, father," His son murmured, gently nudging his father against the shoulder with a firm muzzle. Byriath responded with a soft grunt and an affectionate nudge. Theseus sat next to him by the fire, his forepaws stuck forward to warm them, "The snow is thawing. Soon, we'll be gardening again."

Byriath responded with a grunt and a nod, tucking his forepaws under his body. Soon, it would be time to garden, to sow the earth and provide for himself, Theseus, and other groups in trade. His ration box was already low, he'd have to hunt again, "Any travelers from the other groups?"

"No," Theseus shook his head, and Byriath watched his mane fall into his face. The boy, hardly even an adult, still had trouble keeping his mane kempt. "I guess everyone buckled down for the winter."

Byriath hummed softly, his gaze returning to the fire. He closed his eyes, awash in warmth, before he was reminded of the traps he set the night before. He stood from his seat and shook his fur. He started for the door, swinging Levityan over his shoulder. Levityan was a rather sturdy axe he used to cut wood and old traps, and he never left home without it. He gave Theseus a glance before he walked out the door, "I'm going to check on the traps -- watch the cabin."

With the silent agreement from his son, Byriath closed the rickety door behind him and stepped off the front porch, eyes staring out into the snowy forest. Just as his son had said, the snow was beginning to thaw - especially the snow that covered the garden patches. Very soon, his cabin would look greener than ever.

With a huff, he started along the trodden path, which winded around the outskirts of his 'territory' -- to him, it was more of a property of land. And most were smart enough to not intrude.
