Time had found her in the forsaken desert, the burnt husk of the jungle laying long before her even as trees struggled from the floor, new greenery retaking the gray burnt remains of what once would have been something beautiful. Breath pushed from aching lungs, the heat of the sun beating down on her fur, enough that she felt she was baking alive. Warm the sunlight baking the sand below in the desert the Pitt called home. They knew they were behind in their tasks, in things that Olalla had assigned to them once upon a time, but it was not too late to start now they supposed. Inhaling roughly, tasting the dry sandy air, the dragon would growl as they walked, effectively clearing their throat. What all did they need to do? Thinking as they walked, heading towards the area they were supposed to dig at, sunlight bouncing off of golden scales harshly.

The imprints their taloned feet left were quickly whisked over with loose sand by a blowing gale, their mane shifting and ruffling in the breeze, bringing some comfort to the massive creature. Rumbling as they came to a stop, taking in the scents in the air as their talons dug into the hot sand, down into the cooler sand hidden below. Finding the region they wanted to start, the god would drag their talons over the sand, scooping away the top layer and digging into the layer below, digging downwards to begin the path they wanted to make.

It felt somewhat strange, sand getting under their scales and rubbing in awkward places that they could not reach. The work reminded them of Malak, their long time friend and the only individual they felt they could rely on at any time now, though the other seemed to still be in recovery. If only they'd been there to protect him from harm, then this never would have happened. Shaking their head to clear their mind of their thoughts, the dragon busied themself in the act of digging, pushing sand out behind them into a large pile, their throat burning with a fiery tinge. They were making their own way of ensuring their trench wouldn't be filled back in with sand immediately, opening their mouth as heat grew and grew, fire racing up their throat to blast against the sand, continuing to spew the flame in place before moving on, leaving behind something akin to heated and hardened sand that may have born some resemblance to a thin glass after a lot of flame had scorched it. Had the beast had the ability to wield water, they would have doused the walls of the trench with water and then breathed fire on it in an attempt at making it harden. Perhaps someone would come by with clay later. They were just here to do their assigned chore.

The heat had been aggressive as of late, beating down on the great golden beast's scales. They'd been craving a storm to sweep the region, to beat down the dry dust that was rising so often, the dust that clogged their throat and dug into their scars and got under their scales. The blowing sand was no nicer, stinging blind eyes.

The dragon had been in some form of seclusion from the main portion of the group, avoiding other sentient beings if only for the silence it brought them when the memories of war clouded their mind and ears. They could still see battlefields past, and they could still see bodies falling into the grasp of death. They could still remember the small form of their deceased husband ages ago.

On days like today, where the sun burned hot above, heatwaves rising off their scales and the sand around them, the dragon found themselves pondering death. It was the rare sane moment, where as much as their heart hurt, they could think more clearly. The ghosts of their failures gave them some time alone as well, time that they endured through. Sometimes the loneliness was worse, the silence from even their own mind and heart even worse than the clamor. The hum of life was absent from the air and the dragon stood a lonely sentry in a dry desert.

They didn’t know how many days, hours, weeks even had passed since they had left the civilization of The Pitt. They hadn't been bothered to keep track, and couldn't be bothered now to figure it out. They could only surmise that it had been a few days that they had been laying out in the sun and letting sand and dirt drift over them. They hadn't moved for food or drink, their massive body holding enough to sate them for a few days at the least. Form remaining more or less as still as the dead, the beast laid prone as the desert covered their body until they resembled the beginning of a sand dune.

When the deset had begun to claim them, the scent of ain carried thick in the air like a pungent scent. Blinking eyes that could see nothing, the beast licked their lips and released a deep growl. Lifting their head skyward as an ominous snarl of thunder raced through the air, the feeling of rain beginning to lash sun baked scales and mane, the downpour beginning soft and turning driving all too soon. Growling themself at the next snarl of thunder, their joints and bones groaning in protest as they stood up and sand rolled off their body with a violent fshhh sound. Shaking their body under the onslaught of rain, the dragon would turn to amble back towards the city that The Pitt called home, intent on getting barrels out to collect the precious rainwater.
[OOC: I just got a pc and decided to give this a try without telling anyone. ANY PRIOR ATTEMPTS AT A RETURN DO NOT COUNT LOL, FYI he didn't wait at the border, he traveled through the jungle canopy then snuck through to the central plaza. OPEN TO ALL. ]

How much time had passed since? How many years had rolled by? How much had changed? Who now took pride in ruling this forbidden place?

Turn around.

This awful, rotten, hedonistic, impulsive, and violent place. It was a pit, a place you could never really truly leave. For to survive you would have to do things that followed you forever. Demons dwelling in the back of your mind. Guilt disguised as memories always tapping on your shoulder, making you turn around expecting to see something. Sometimes he did. Sometimes he would get stuck in that horrible moment. The slaughter and betrayal.

How many times will he die for this place till he learns?

Leave

His body was begging him. His heart was deafening, it was not like the coolheaded jaguar to be so on edge. It wasn't like who he used to be, who he thought he still was. Yet despite the tightness in his chest and twisting tight feeling in his belly... he kept walking. Kydobi wasn't thinking. A creature of habit, drawn by instinct or perhaps desperation to the only familiar thing he had. What's the worst that could happen? Do some kill him? Again? He could only wish to sleep forever.

A flash of darkness. A cold mildewy smell. No sound, no feeling, just isolation. Waiting. That was what death was for him. You don't remember who you were or what happened. All you knew was what you felt, and you felt that you were someone. Yet all you are is that excruciating waiting feeling. Nothing more. Until he would wake in his body, not sure where he was or how he got there. The last time he was covered in dirt, he would rise with the scars on his body and familiar faces thankful for his return.

This time he didn't arise. This time he just was. Brand new pelt, no scars to prove he earned his keep. Nothing told his story of how he fought and waited till he ruled. Nothing of the prior ardent. So why am I here? The man let out a hmph at his thoughts. It was all he knew.

The gunslinger was making quick work of the desert, dust was kicked up behind his massive paws. It was a solid and consistent gait that carried him. Long muscular trunks would extend, flexing as they pulled him forward.

---

It was the darkest hour, in the one to follow there would be the pink hues of sunrise on the horizon. The ashy soot had collected on his paws from the dead forest. Another thing killed during his time. Did the alliance and treaty still hold? Once again, the brute found himself trying to figure out how long he had been... He neared the jungle and swiftly traveled his way through the terrain, ghosting through trees when he did not feel the need to go around. A small feeling of pride and entitlement snuck its way in. This was his jungle. He may not rule it anymore, but it was what he knew. The man quickly made his mind up that he would not stay a desperado. There would be no more denying it, no more hate, no more finding your way. No. More. Dying.

No more trusting. These people are what they always were. Monsters. He had died too many times trying to save them. Trying to change them. Trying to help everyone. He was going to live and keep living no matter who he had to claw through. The shadow walked his way through to the central plaza. The sun had now halfway risen, and life was starting to come to the marketplace. His eyes would move to the throne and he felt molten rage. Smoke had begun to chuff its way out his nostrils when he saw his skull. So that was what they made of him? Just another grotesque spectacle. None of his previous members tried to show respect and bury it. What of all his lovers?

Just another fool. Another righteous fool.

Not anymore.

The majority of the pittians were too busy with their morning tasks to notice him. Maybe there wasn't as much unity as there once was. Or perhaps Kydobi strode around as if he belonged there. Of course, he would get a few stares, some people would brush it off as quickly as it came. For now, he would sit by a waterfall and groom the soot and dust off his body. If anybody came to question him then so be it. If no one did then he would assimilate quickly.

Trying to help everyone. he needed her and that was why he left her a note to meet him at the oasis. he had set up a blanket, some snacks and drinks, and a wrapped box. roses lay on said box. he had crafted her a charm for one of her chains. whichever she wanted. it was made of crocodile skull bone and was of them together. he took ages to carve it and refused to admit how many wasted bones went to the scrap pile.
he just hoped sakura would love it. would love the sunset over the oasis. would enjoy the crocodiles as they hunted in the dim light far bellow his chosen spot. he just wanted her to be happy. to see her smile. so much so, he hardly thought about himself. something he had never done before.
he needed her and that was why he left her a note to meet him at the oasis. he had set up a blanket, some snacks and drinks, and a wrapped box. roses lay on said box. he had crafted her a charm for one of her chains. whichever she wanted. it was made of crocodile skull bone and was of them together. he took ages to carve it and refused to admit how many wasted bones went to the scrap pile.

he just hoped sakura would love it. would love the sunset over the oasis. would enjoy the crocodiles as they hunted in the dim light far bellow his chosen spot. he just wanted her to be happy. to see her smile. so much so, he hardly thought about himself. something he had never done before.

But, there were more important matters to attend to for the time being. What were those things, Olalla had no idea but he felt unproductive and wanted to change that. Leftover beams and scaffolding from the Welcome Centre were enough to at least get something started. So he made his way across the plaza to gather the materials. Once collected he made his way back to the open area that fronted the Plaza, closest to the cool shade of the jungle.

Olalla grumbled to himself as he brushed away various jungle debris from his work zone, soon beginning to dig the holes that the beams would stand in, wheezing slightly. One by one he slammed the wooden beams into their places, partially filling the holes with river stones and filling the rest with mud and sand. He sat and stared at the beams, huffing now. Olalla was still very much sick and sore, but as the saying goes; idle hands are the devil's workshop. Perhaps after this he'd see Leon and Oliver, after months of putting it off.
After a few more hours of setting beams and moving scaffolding, Olalla had the right wall up and a window in place. It was a start, but he wasn't anywhere near the finish.
It was far enough for no one to really hear her tossing and turning, breaking a pot from her bedside table. Her forepaws scratched across her face, dark blood welling in the small wounds. Her sleep was plagued with terrors, visages of her mother and brother, her own body and Boy. Images of what she could do, the terrors she could bring, all because of who she was. Who's daughter she was. The blood that ran in her veins.

Fire licked at her bedsheets, formed by her own paw, and quickly started to catch onto any fabric and wood it could find. The rose she had kept, dry and withered, was one of the first to go. The wooden supports above creaked and groaned, waking the woman up. Then the smoke had filled the room. With a startled and slightly strangled yell, she fell onto the floor, limbs refusing to work for a second. Her bedsheet followed, burning parts of her wings before she could wrestle it off of her.

The fire had grown quickly, partly influenced by her own emotions, and as she stumbled out of the bedroom, it's brilliant heat had lit up most of the wooden supports around her. Boy's room had already been engulfed in flames, oddly enough, and she turned for the door, grabbing the dragon bone dagger Bai Jing Ai had given her. She was almost there, almost out, when her manipulation had given life to an apparition. Canid in form, the fire blocked her path.

She was frozen in place, staring at this ghostly visage of family, before she felt her lungs burn from smoke. And she screamed, ruining her vocal chords, and ran through the fire. Her burned paw pads stung on the sandstone porch and her partially burnt wings stung from the sand as she collapsed upon the earth, loosening her grip on the dagger. It skittered from her, and she found herself staring at it.

Rousing herself to look at the burning house, she couldn't find it in her to scream. To yell out for help, for someone to get water. She could only watch as everything that house stood for started to burn away. It was, morbidly, a beautiful scene.

The councilman was walking back. The wagon empty and his eyes lively. He was happy to have done what he did. Plus he met some new faces. He got to see Sakura and tell them the news. Then he was coming home and he focused so hard on his goal of getting back that he had not noticed the change. His mane and tail tuft was now made of lightning. Crackling blue and bright. Yet, he was oblivious as he stopped at his home and unhooked himself.

Shaking his large form as the harness fell away. It felt so good to be here. To be home. He had one last task then a well earned rest. So, he called out to his home. [glow=#ffffff,1,400]If you want to be an ambassador, please come see me at my home.[/glow] His voice was loud and calm. Simply getting attention, which he was good at.
Then he would move a bit back and bellow out his Roar. Loud and powerful. A call he hoped she would hear and come to. He could only hope, though. She was a busy woman and he knew she could use a break.

The child was bored and lonely. She had taken to playing outside alone. Though chasing a mouse was not exactly a normal kids game. She was wandering along swiftly. A live mouse screaming in her maw as she moved along. Dropping the thing and chasing it again, she would grab it and tote it about once more.

Then, she grew bored and dropped it. Slamming a paw onto it and letting it squirm helplessly under paw. Tail swishing as she yawned. Slowly squishing the mouse until it went limp.

What a boring day.
