And it might be pathetic [p, Shelby] - Vathmos - 07-31-2019

[align=center][div style="text-align: justify; width: 45%; font-family: arial; font-size: 11pt; letter-spacing: -1px;"]Vathmos wasn't used to her clanmates being so... helpful. It was hard for her to be trustful of them, her own clan betrayed her at the last minute, and she wondered if it would be the same here. Vathmos was told this was the healer's den, which was something she was unfamiliar with. They didn't have a healer, and any that they did have was captured from other groups. Her tribe partook in slavery, like other hyena clans. They were ruled by a violent female hyena, then the rest of the females followed in the pecking order, then the males. The lowest-ranking female was higher than the highest-ranking male. Vathmos missed her family, sure... but they bit her and left her marked for exile.

That's why she was here now, padding towards the den, sticking her head in and looking for.... someone. She didn't know who this healer was. She stuck her head in, the little hyena laugh left her throat as if she was asking if someone was there.

Hidden amongst her fur was bite marks left by her former clanmates, all in about the same state of healing. They were on her left shoulder and scattered about her torso. There was signs of tearing on her neck and parts where her mohawk was pulled out and still growing. Some of them seemed infected, but it didn't look like it bothered her. She was lucky she got out only like this, her injuries could have been much worse.

"Uh, hi, I'm Vathmos. I'm looking for the healer."

[align=center][div style="width: 51%; text-align: justify; font-size: 10pt; letter-spacing: -1px; font-family: georgia;"]Selby had been sorting through his shelves when Vathmos came in, carefully arranging heavy books alphabetically. Various categories lined the dusty units— fiction, almanacs, and old journals just to name a few. He prided himself on variety, and he was thinking about where he would get his next title when there was a voice.

He stood up quickly in surprise, banging his head on the shelf above. "Just a second!" he called, rubbing his noggin and thinking for a moment. No one had ever come to his home for treatment before. In fact, Selby was pretty sure that 90% of Tanglewood had no idea where he lived. It was... strange.

He appeared in the front room, quickly catching the scent of blood. "Vathmos, it’s a pleasure to meet you," Selby said, trying not to let any of his strange feeling show. "You have some... bites, it looks like? Could you take a seat?" The medic ran through the things he might need, choosing not to approach until the hyena was seated. He didn’t want to alarm her.

[align=center][div style="text-align: justify; width: 45%; font-family: arial; font-size: 11pt; letter-spacing: -1px;"] Vathmos took a moment to observe the male's home, taking in the smells of herbs and dusty old junk. "Have you... lived here a while?" she asked, wandering inside and finally looking at Shelby. A male? Vathmos' lip upturned slightly, but she shook it away. Guess that was part of their thing here. This clan seemed to have everyone as equals, except for the higher-ups.
"Yes, they are hyena bites, if that helps. Normally I'd would let it be but it's been a month and they kind of hurt." Vathmos took a seat, tucking her tail around herself and reaching her neck around to look at her bites. She lookedback at the healer. "What's your name, by the way?"

[align=center][div style="width: 51%; text-align: justify; font-size: 10pt; letter-spacing: -1px; font-family: georgia;"]Selby nodded as he came closer to examine the bites. Hyena bites, huh? He’d never seen a hyena, but since they were scavengers, their bites probably infected easily. "My name is Selby, and I’ve lived here since I stopped living with my dad, close to a year now," he replied.

As he inspected the bites, he noted that several were infected, as he had predicted. He frowned at the pus leaking languidly from the wound, nose scrunching a bit at the acrid smell. Well, he knew what to do about that. "Alright. I know what to do. I’m going to clean these up, dress them, and bandage ‘em. Some of them are infected, so I’m going to need you to come in tomorrow and the day after so I can check on it. If they get worse, I might ask you to stay here so I can monitor you for blood poisoning. I don’t think it’ll come to that though, so no need to worry," the medic chattered as he moved about his home, collecting the necessary supplies. Water, fresh syringes, premade poultices, and fresh bandages.

Selby went back to Vathmos, first going to flush out the wounds on her neck. "This might sting a bit," he warned, filling a syringe with water and pushing the water onto the first wound. He gave her a moment to adjust, then continued. He went about his work quietly and efficiently, and when a section of her pelt had fully clean wounds, he dressed and bandaged them.
