the railroad — open - BUBONICPLAGUE - 05-29-2019

Teetering on the brink between life and death, floating in the mass of a thick, humming darkness. When he closed his eyes he could even feel the comforting embrace of Lirim. He was always welcome in the void, he knew, even Lirim was not really there. More often than not, they were wandering on some world, exploring the nooks and crannies of what worlds they had not yet seen. But there were times where they melted back into the starless night that was the void, and at those times, Bub felt at peace. Their relationship had ended some time ago, but he knew he could always trust the void to be there when he needed comfort.

He'd been floating in the endless night for some time, whispering sweet nothings into the empty space for what seemed like an eternity. Some to Lirim. Some to his children. Some to a man he had met some time before he'd thrown himself back into the maws of death. It was strange; perhaps the fact that he knew so little about the demigod that intrigued him so much. He wanted to know more about him. He wanted to know what went on behind those eyes he could only see here. Perhaps that was the reason he was being nudged out of the dark. It was gentle in the beginning, before the void around him seemed to become ever more insistent that he go. There was a reluctant groan from the demon; he was so comfortable, but... he could not remain in limbo forever.

Bubonicplague gave in and began to move. Before him he could see the blurred island of the Typhoon, and his painfully plain body buried in ash near the base of the volcano. He paused before the exit, taking a moment to peer back into the void and say goodbye before he returned to seeing nothing but black. It was always so tiring; to be able to see only in death. At times, he missed seeing colors, but it never took long for him to readjust. A thick puff of black smoke left his lungs and billowed out from his parted mouth. A cough escaped with it, and he gave a short growl at the rasping breaths as he slowly heaved himself up from the ground. The large black wolf gave a shake of his fur, and though it did not completely rid the ash from his coat, he began to walk.

The tired demon lumbered through the island's jungle, muttering under his breath as he went. Massive black paws came to pause as they eventually sank into the sand of the beach—God, he hated sand. Bub sneered and moved a few steps back beneath the trees, giving an irritable shake of his paws to rid himself of the sand sticking between his toes. Slowly, he settled back down, his old bones creaking with the movement. He set crossed his paws and set his chin on a small mound of grass, ears raised to listen to the annoyingly regular bustle of crewmates as they all went about their days.

idyllfields
stars did fall
was there a common occurrence that the majority of those here had died and come back, or were immortal? idyll was shocked that such a thing happened so much here. goldenluxury, luca. apparently lucifer was immortal; they had assumed the beast just had an incredible lifespan. apparently the family of fae also had some questionable lifespans. apparently the former leader that goldie had succeeded also died and came back, but he was a demigod. it was an interesting topic, though one that made them question their own mortality.

naturally, as a philosopher.

idyllfields began to wonder if immortality was in reach of anyone if they were willing. something about deals being made with certain demons... or would they figure their own mortality once they die themselves. they felt nothing special that could indicate their own use of life. then again, if someone had always lived in the body they possessed, how could they feel different about something that's always been with them?

so much ambiguity surrounding the topic. no answer really the same in specific terms. it left idyll in a daze of thought as they rested with a coconut shake beside them. the presence of an unfamiliar face had caught their attention soon enough. this one looked grumpy, but idyll was still willing to be polite. they offered bubonicplague their coconut shake as they came closer, a polite smile on their face.

"i have yet to see you before, how are you fairing? my name is idyllfields, by the way."
