dayman -- bird? - Splitvisage - 05-27-2019

[font=trebuchet ms]Darksouls stood at the edge of the water, looking out.

Clouds coated the horizon, dark and thick. There would certainly be a storm, he knew from experience. If it were a lightning storm, he would have to seek shelter; if it were just rain, maybe he could stay outside. Real rain had a smell about it that the rain in the underground never did, a life-giving, cleansing scent that made the dampness settling in his fur worth it. He heard no thunder yet, but some could strike in the blink of an eye.

He did, however, hear a flapping sound behind him. Turning his head slowly to look, he blinked. There was nothing there, but he could feel a weight settling on his head- more specifically, his antlers. Furrowing his brows, he walked over to the water and glanced down at his reflection.

Perched atop his antlers was a bird of some sort, with black feathers on its face and back, white feathers along its chest, and gray scale-looking patterns on its side. It stared into the reflection as well, its eyes landing on Darksouls' face. It opened its red beak and quacked softly, as if in greeting.

"Hello," Darksouls said in response, twitching his ears. It sounded like a duck, but didn't look like any duck he'd ever seen. He wasn't sure his antlers would be of much use for nesting, but if it wanted to stay perched for a bit, he had no problem with that. He had no other plans for today.

/so technically it's not a raven like I said in the Discord
  /it's a scaly-sided merganser
  /but w/e I like this better

The lithe feline's feathery tail twitched twice in a sweeping motion across the ground in wonder as he approached, and he would then announce his not so stealthy appearance with a giddy greeting. "Hi! That's a nice lookin' bird you got there!" the bi-colored cat trilled. Never before had Ahren seen such a bird that looked that way, covered in fluff and with a brightly hued beak, and he began to wonder if he just did not get out enough. Heck, he hadn't even introduced himself properly to the figure in front of him, and that made him frown to himself in a pouting manner.

"I'm Ahren...by the way."

[font=trebuchet ms]The sound of a voice behind him caused Darksouls to jolt slightly, his shoulders twitching. Remarkably, the bird did not startle at this, remaining perched on his antlers. Turning around slowly to look at the young feline, Darksouls offered him a nod. "Yes, they do look nice," he agreed, with a soft smile. "It's nice to meet you, Ahren. I'm Darksouls."

He wasn't sure how they hadn't met, but then maybe Ahren was a recent joiner- and besides, Dark had been keeping to himself for some time, so it was probably just coincidence that their paths hadn't crossed until now. "How are you liking the Typhoon?" he asked. As the words left his mouth, he felt the weight rise from his head, and settle again on his back. Turning his front half slightly and craning his neck, he could see the bird sitting comfortably, looking down at Ahren.

He could also see the clouds coming closer and growing darker. He'd keep an ear out for thunder, but he suspected if there was any danger of lightning, they would both easily hear it.

The endless Void, The gazing abyss, The bottomless ocean of horror...It coiled itself around your tender heart
"I see we're making new friends today" another voice joined the duo (and feathery friend) as the shadow made his way over to Darksouls, the newly joined Ahren and Souls' newfound company.

Luciferus hummed looking at the bird with a raised brow before his gaze flickered back to whom it perched upon "Got a name in mind? doesn't look like they're planning to move for awhile" a small glance to what looked like an incoming storm would prove that point before his attention shifted to Ahren "Luciferus, a pleasure"

idyllfields
stars did fall
"hello, feathery friend!" idyll greeted before mocking a shocked expression to its host. "oh, pardon me! I almost didn't see you underneath your friend." they chuckled, covering their mouth partially with their front paw.

"maybe its resting and needs water, too. it is getting rather hot now." idyll suggested, their tone more serious.

[div style="width: 527px; line-height: 1.4; text-align: justify; font-family: palatino; font-size: 11px;"][align=center]blackbird singing in the dead of night, take these broken wings and learn to fly
Keona knew some avians to grow strangely attached to individuals.  As if proving her point, a dark shadow followed the tiny privateer.  A youthful miscreant known as Fiachra now seemed to tail the petite fae regularly, as he waited, grumpily, for the return of the missing Suvi.  Her cousin had befriended the raven from taking him during a time of need.  Following his recovery however, he refused to leave.

Suvi didn't seem to mind him, but personally, Keona found him in somewhat insufferable.  He was prone to mischief and he seemed to despise anyone who wasn't a child.  Unfortunately, he seemed to regard her as such, even as her kitten fluff slowly began to fade.  The price of living a terribly long life.

As tiny paws trotted through sand, Fiachra seemed content to simply follow from above.  So now he leaves me alone. Pesky jerk.  Pale, sea-green hues danced upward towards the sound of Darksouls' voice, who seemed to be the source of conversation.  A feathered friend?  She did sense another creature nearby aside from her crewmates.

"'ere's to hopin' they aren't a troublemaker like Fiachra." Her head lightly inclined towards Luciferus and Idyllfields' voices, ears flicking.  She could taste a storm in the air.  Perhaps the bird sought safety.
