"Ouch," the muttered exclaimation shot out of the young wolf's maw.  With a frown, the youth lifted a white paw, golden eyes scanning sharply for signs of injury.  When he felt satisfied, he let it drop.  With tail wagging and ears perked, the boy lowered his nose to the ground, conscious of the rocks that attacked his paw.

The mountain itself bore challenge and he planned on indulging it.

He was close, he knew.  His stomach twisted as subconscious reminded him it was more hope than certainty.  But anything sort of confidence was practically a plea for things to go south.

He had failed in tracking his triplet sister when she disappeared.  He would not accept failure in tracking his older sister.  She came this way, he was sure of it.  Conrí had to be only a few steps behind her and that was the end of it.

When an invisible line halted his sniffing, the dire wolf faltered, coming to an abrupt stop.  There, his golden eyes, lit by a fire of stubborn nature, finally lingered on the landscape stretching ahead, behind and around him.  Lush grass, sprouting at spring's beckoning melted into snow-covered rock.  The peaks stretched up to jab the sky, always out of reach.

She had to be out there somewhere.  Conrí exhaled and tasted the bare trace of salt.  An ocean must sit nearby.  She's somewhere here.  "Hey! Hello!?" The boy sat back on his hunches, throwing his voice into the wind, restless nature driving his paws kneading into the ground.  God, he was tempted to just run by the scent warning.

"hello child. are you lost?" a voice would answer his call, a tigress appearing from the long grasses, her expression and face tired, as if she had seen too many things.

shaking herself out, she stepped closer to the border, "this is the land of elysium, my boy. what brings you to our borders?" she asks him, easily crossing the scent boundary, her eyes falling over the wolf's fur and body. she was concerned for him, not hunting him. there weren't that many children around anymore, and she could feel the lack of children's laughter in the air.

"my name is ariside laneces but you can call me ari or kade." she murmurs with a gentle dip of her head, old battle scars standing out along her neck and throat, her pelt smelling smoky, of ash and heat from a fire.

Another dire wolf? The petite sand cat flicked an ear as she trotted behind Kade, bright blue hues curious.  This was younger than the first, closer to her in age.  Tena inclined her head lightly to the side, the tip of her tail twitching.

He seemed the restless kind.  Eagerness in his eyes.  The Demdji decided that odds were he wasn't quite lost.  Not with the drive in his gaze.  No.  She knew that look.  She had worn it well.  He had a focus.  Thoughts aside, the sand cat remained quiet for once.  She figured he'd answer her musings with his response.

Lost?  The scruffy canine furrowed his brow, ruffling his fur as he shook his head.  Hardly a child, he muses, huffing quietly.  "No ma'am, not lost.  'm looking for someone; been tracking 'er." His face lit up in a lopsided grin.  It was unfortunate his sister was not standing in front of him but he was sure she was here.

The land of Elysium.  Sounded like somewhere that might earn her interest.

"M' name's Conrí," he added hastily, blinking as he realized she had given him a full introduction.  "Conrí Ó Faoláin.  Lilja's m' sister; she's who 'm looking for." That explanation out of the way, he sat back happily awaiting the confirmation he ought to receive, glancing behind Kade to see a smaller feline.

She had nothing to say so he just waited, paws still kneading the ground restlessly.

Convient.  He was looking for the other dire wolf.  Tena snorted softly, whiskers twitching.  "Your sister came by not long ago, asked to stay," she answered, sharing his grin.  Either the youth was a great tracker or just lucky.  No matter.

"You're welcome here as well." He could probably use the rest.  "I'm Tena by the way, nice to meet you, Conrí."
