but since you dream the night away tomorrow's here / gift + orpheus needed - clarence a. - 12-30-2018 Orpheus' gift to him had been rather nice. More than that, really. It had been thoughtful and it was clear Orpheus had taken some time to pick it out. Clarence had been intending to get gifts anyway, of course, but he hadn't quite gotten around to it, but now he felt like he really should for Orpheus. So, he tried to think of what the other man might like. He wasn't exactly sure what all of Orpheus' interests were, so he decided to put something together that had a bit of everything in it. First, he found a book of poetry. It had been one of the first books he'd found upon his arrival and he'd found it rather charming. It was far more contemporary than what he was used to and he knew some of it had gone over his head, but that didn't bother him at all and he was sure Orpheus would understand it better than he did anyway. "Gmorning, Gnight" it was called. It had nice little pictures that went with it as well, so he supposed it was practically perfect. Then he'd found some candy called "Skittles" which claimed they would make you "taste the rainbow." Clarence wasn't really sure what that meant, but it did sound quite exciting and he was sure any sort of candy would taste good. It was better than anything he would make, anyways. With his two items, he put them in a nice little red bag with some tissue paper and wrote Orpheus' name as neatly as he could given the lack of thumbs. He then picked it up and headed into camp, looking for the lion. He felt his heart twist a bit as his eyes raked the camp. He wasn't sure why he was so nervous. It wasn't like this was important or even expected. He just hoped his new friend would like it and he hoped he wouldn't mind it being so late. Finally, he spotted the man. "Orpheus!" he called, moving quickly with the little bag before coming up to the lion and setting it down at his paws. "Thank you very much for the gift a few days ago, it was very appreciated. I just wanted to return the favor." A quiet flick of his tail betrays his surprise, soft eyes shifting to him and then the bag. He'd never expected anything to come of the stockings he left for people, aside from Ambroise's shouting. Nothing seemed to please that grump, but it doesn't bother him as much as it should. Not when he was used to it, and not when everyone else enjoyed the day and the gifts far more. It was easy to focus on things that brought others enjoyment. Clarence was memorable, at least. Easy to read. He can appreciate people who seem honest — about who they are, what they want — and although there are many more things he could figure out, he doesn't feel closed off the way he has before. That makes him antsy for some reason or another — he struggles with emotional closeness these days. Surprise. Still, Orpheus manages a warm smile once he recovers from the surprise and looks back at Clarence, even if his expression is a little shy now. He's not certain why it gets to him too. Maybe he's just not used to people paying attention to his efforts and hobbies. "You didn't have to do that," he makes sure to say, though he gently paws the bag close enough to move the tissue paper. The book there makes his eyes go bright again, grin now electric. "That obvious, huh? Thank you, it's been a while since I've had something new to read." He has to admit that he's curious, if only from the title. It seems sweet. But he can't take it out and start just yet, not when he still had company. His smile hasn't faded yet. "Really, thank you." it's midnight i hope this makes sense Re: but since you dream the night away tomorrow's here / gift + orpheus needed - clarence a. - 01-02-2019 At Orpheus' first words, Clarence was quick to shake head. "Oh, I mean, I know, it's just... it was very thoughtful of you and I just wanted to return the favor, I guess. I mean, more than that. I mean, I wanted to get you something just to- I just really appreciate-" He stumbled over his words before he paused a moment and added, "I just mean it's not like it was an obligation. I just thought you might enjoy it, I suppose." There. That was a coherent sentence. He couldn't help but feel relieved when Orpheus liked the gifts he gotten him. He wasn't exactly sure what would suit the lion's tastes but Clarence was happily surprised that he was interested in the book he'd picked out for him. "Of course. I'm glad you like it," he answered before pausing a moment and then adding, "If you don't mind me asking, do you know exactly what Skittles are?" He then laughed, "I know, I probably shouldn't be giving things that I'm not familiar with but it seemed like something you might like. It's some sort of sweet, yes? And what exactly does a rainbow taste like?" He probably wouldn't ask anyone but Orpheus these questions. Well, he would've asked Atticus. There were a few people in the clan that didn't seem to mind fielding his questions about the modern world and what everything meant, but he tried not to push it too much. He knew better than to ask someone like Ambroise, for example, or Jerseyboy. LISTEN UP; HEAR THE PATRIOTS SHOUT BLOOD LUST IN A HOLY WAR |
