I WISH YOU COULD SEE THE WICKED TRUTH
CAUGHT UP IN A RUSH, IT'S KILLING YOU
The sand cat knew they needed more healers – with her own time spent divided between marauder and erudite duties, as well as the disappearance of their other medic, they needed to fill out the ranks. So she set about brainstorming the conditions for tryouts and collecting a dozen or so leather satchels. Unlike most medics, Ninazu had neither the time nor the patience to hold a proper training session to test the knowledge of their potential promotees. So she settled for a fast and dirty method.
Leaping to the rostrum Stryker used for meetings, the lithe feline lashed her tails as she threw her mottled collection of old satchels in front of her. “Gather here if you want to try out for the erudite rank! I’m looking for a good number of replacements, but I won’t take idiots. Your goal is to impress me, not trip over your competition.” Ninazu considered it moronic to have healers compete with each other; that only caused issues within the team and undo stress on the already stressed out doctors. So she designed her tryouts with that in mind.
“I want each of you to take one of these bags through the territory and collect exactly three plants in under two hours. I leave the specifics of the plants up to you – but once you get back, you will need to identify all of them and explain their herbal properties to me.” Hopefully that seemed simple enough; she wanted to spend less than a few hours dealing with this shit, and this seemed the easiest way to do so.
[ to try out, just write a one-shot reply to this thread! there is no word min or max, and quality over quantity is preferred - and, remember, you're trying to show off how much your character knows.

[div style="margin: 0 auto; border-width:0; width: 70%; text-align: justify; line-height: 1.5; font-family: arial; font-size: 9pt;"]// decided to drop pan so she's no longer in the tryouts, sorry <33
Spoiler:
Despite her cold demeanor and her tendency to be rather blunt, expressions unreadable or misunderstood by the ones around her, Pan is a coward. She doesn't like the idea of fighting. Her tolerance for pain is low. While she is not particularly afraid of dying, her physical presence on the battlefield is rare. It puts her in a strange spot. She has almost no qualms standing in the background and making sacrifices, deciding what needs to be done due to the gains outweighing the losses, but it is the thought of fighting that wards her away. While she while she may try and defend herself, she won't start any battles or spars. It is not in her nature. She is afraid of pain and inconveniences, to have her emotions interrupted and overwhelmed. Funnily enough, she hesitates when she hears this opportunity to become an Erudite, a healer for the group. While she understands basic healing, she knows she has the tendency to second guess herself. She's never learnt how to heal others, only knowing how to patch up herself of her own wounds and injuries.
Only three plants and two hours. One plant every forty minutes. She can't help but feel oddly amused at how specific the instructions were but, at the same time, how flawed. Truthfully, Pan wants to know what the fem's reaction would be if she were to take three of the same plant. It wouldn't technically be going against the rules of the tryouts but, to her misfortune, she doesn't have the guts to do it. She can only humour herself with possibilities, the serval taking a bag without a word, gripping the handle between her jaws and walking into the depths of the jungle. She moves in a direction she has seen herbs to be, unable to remember what exact plants they were but holding a memory of her first destination. Tropical climates - how convenient, she thinks when she recognises the smell of aloe vera swimming through the atmosphere, nose twitching to follow the scent that draws her astray. It would be good for her to take it while she can, blue eyes desperately searching for the succulent before catching the sight of thick green leaves dappled in pricks.
Her eyes resonate a glow as she pulls water away from the base of one of the leaves, controlling the water so that she will not damage the plant or shrivel away its healing qualities. It will allow for her to easily extract the xerophyte, the girl finally gripping and pulling her chosen leaf to be placed inside the bag she was carrying. Pan returns to her original route, noticing how off course she had been but not particularly bothered considering she was not behind. While she isn't very good at keeping time, it hasn't felt like she has been in the humid weather for too long, she doesn't feel like her paws are melting so she considers it to be a good sign when she finally reaches the array of green herbs, bright leaves pointing outwards like spades. Apparently its consumption can wield rather nasty results with the stomach but Pan knows that, as a poultice, it can be rather useful. Without another moment to waste, she carefully takes a bundle of the growing herb and begins to move towards an unknown direction. This time she doesn't have an advantageous lead, unsure of where to go. She doesn't like moving aimlessly. Although she does it a lot, she hates the feeling of having no plans to back her up.
Inconvenient. This all felt inconvenient knowing that she had to search for plants in the midst of a jungle. While there is a plethora of vegetation blooming around her, there are too many distracting colours and similar shapes. Some look more alike than others. Her heart skips a beat, gaze swimming towards the appearance of white flowers she had almost missed. They are small and remind her of snow - a white cloak sprinkled over a bush. She takes what she needs including the root, tugging at the plant before moving hastily to return. She isn't sprinting but she would like this entire task over and done with. Her temples feel as though they are willing to converge, the back of her skull drawing the beginnings of a headache and nausea from always being out in the heat of the territory. Her eyes look towards Ninazu, no particular feelings or thoughts towards her character just yet. She looks like the making of a leader...or at least someone who thought herself as important as one, the girl not understanding her position to both The Pitt and Stryker when she sets her bag down.
She empties the contents and looks at the sand cat for a moment before glancing back at her own plants. The one at the top of the small heap was: "Aloe vera. Your standard herb for easing burns from the likes of a fire or even the sun. It can also relieve skin diseases and it is used as a poultice." The second part of her description was often forgotten by others but she supposes it is rare for creatures to suffer from said maladies. She shifts the next plant in front of her. "Stinging nettle," she says, "Eases swelling as a poultice and if you consume it, you'll throw up. The vomiting is only useful if you consume something you shouldn't have though." Her ears prick upwards. "Oh and if you get stung by stinging nettle, you can also use aloe vera over the affected area." Then there is the last one, the young serval taking a breath before continuing, settling her eyes towards the brown roots of the white-flowered plant. Lastly, chervil. Its usefulness can be broken down into two parts. You can eat the leaves to help with a bellyache -" which, to be honest, didn't sound that grand "- or chew the roots into a poultice to cure infection. The roots are therefore only needed once you already have an infection. They're not particularly helpful if you're in search to prevent." She's tempted to name some examples of plants that would help with preventing infection in a fresh wound but she doesn't feel like talking any more than she needs to...at least not to strangers.
