CLOSED MY EYES - open; abandoned - rhosmari - 09-26-2018

Very large paws carried something in a softly curved muzzle. Quiet as the darkness that was soon to envelope the land as the sun began to meet the horizon and dye everything that the light could touch in a warm display of orange and pink. A sadness was almost tangible as the creature walked, her massive form leaving behind large pawprints in the ground. If one had seen her or even managed to get a good look at her face they could see the tear stains that lingered along her face and muzzle. Telling a tale of many many nights of crying and suffering. But not for herself but for her child, the small bundle that the large beast carried in her maw. He was as black as the night that was to come, soft undertones of grey decoration his body and the small tuft of a mane that would soon blossom into a showing of his might and his savagehood. If only. The mother felt her pain open a new and her chest heaved with a breath that didn't seem to want to leave her throat. But she tried hard to keep it in for fear of upsetting the young child. So young and he didn't even know his fate yet. Glistening eyes lifted up a little bit more as she came to the edge of the trees and slowly she laid her son upon the ground.

His paws lifted up to grab her muzzle and it broke her heart that she was leaving him here. But what life would he have at home as he was. They would kill him for fear of the unknown but she knew of what he had been infected with. And regardless of if he died or not his life... Gently she pressed her muzzle up against her son's cranium, breathing in his scent one last time before she pulled back from him. "I love you dearly, my little Lachlan. I want to give you your best chance and home is not where that is. I hope...," Her voice chocked a bit as she struggled to say her goodbyes to the only son she had ever known in her life. "I hope that you have a good life here. A better life and despite your pain I hope they will look after you and understand." Slowly she pulled away from the young baby, eyes of sorrow looking up at the land around her before she turned and left the area and even as she left her son, so small tried to waddle after her. But he wasn't fast enough and grew tired easily.

After a little while the young boy stopped and he sat down, too tired to go on anymore and instead though confused began to cry out. His little paws shuffled in the grass, small puffing of his chest letting out small mrrows into the air before that too made him too tired to do so. His little ears twitched for a moment before he yawned softly though he was too confused and slightly scared to curl up and nap. This place didn't smell like home and where had his mother gone. Lifting a left he lightly pawed at the air as if that might give him the answer before he tipped over onto his back and laid there, staring up endlessly into the canopy of leaves before he pulled his back leg up to start biting on his own toes, metallic blue eyes searching the world around him curiously.

Re: CLOSED MY EYES - open; abandoned - MOONMADE - 09-27-2018

[size=9pt]The world was too bright that day. The air was suffocating and electric, running itself through his fur and making him restless, tense. He was worn to the bone and yet, that morning, after a long and sleepless night, Moon left the Observatory and took to the collapsed city of stars, to the fields, to the trees. Anywhere.

It was with bleary, glassy eyes that he found the cub. His cries split through the air and at first Moon swore he was imagining it. Too many poppy seeds, too little sleep, too many thoughts crammed in his head. But the sounds continued until he decided that he'd follow them and check, and if he found nothing, he'd bid an official farewell to his sanity and find a straitjacket large enough to fit.

But what he found wasn't nothing. It was a child. One that reminded him so painfully of his youth that he stopped in his tracks a few feet away, ears flattening to his head and body folding in on itself like a dog kicked one too many times. His mother, and his pride, and himself. Memories so black and brutal he wouldn't be surprised if this actually was his breaking point and the child before him was his very first hallucination. A physical embodiment of his trauma. The beginning of the end of whatever stability he'd previously had.

So moments, minutes, passed with the cub wailing and Moon standing frozen, and it was with great contemplation and bizarre bravery that he finally convinced himself to walk to the child's side. Hesitant and weary and with the caution of someone convinced they were about to be ambushed, the lion dropped his nose to the child's side and nudged him, gentle. "Mtoto?" He said, soft, entirely unaware he'd slipped into his mother-tongue. "Where'd you come from?"

Re: CLOSED MY EYES - open; abandoned - rhosmari - 09-27-2018

Little teeth continued to nibble on his toes as he gasped his back leg as if it was something that was trying to flee from his grip. His eyes forever roamed taking in the landscape and light around him though he had little to no idea that someone was watching him. After a moment his metallic blue eyes closed and he allowed a soft yawn to leave his throat grip slipping on his own foot as he stretched out his front paws. His little nose twitched, not able to really discern the different smells that were wrapping around him and but something nudged him and that got his attention. Twisting around he let a soft huff of air as he finally saw what had touched him so softly. His paws moved then, shaky things that they were and he attempted to cling on the larger muzzle before he pressed his head up against the other lion's face. He knew what another lion looked like and he was pleased that there was another one here now. Not at all perturbed for the dangers that could have resulted in such a careless action. Instead he let out a squeak of a noise and rolled onto his back, attempting to press a paw underneath Moonmade's chin, lightly pawing at it as he tilted his head to the side just slightly. A part of the young child's mind wondered if he wanted to play and another part wonder if he was Papa. But still little Lachlan continued to make soft ooing noises toward the other male lion, the ability to talk not with the young child yet.

Re: CLOSED MY EYES - open; abandoned - ALISTAIR - 09-27-2018

[align=center][div style="font-size:9.2pt; max-width:400pt; text-align:justify; padding:7px;"]"That is...a baby. A real baby. The heart-warming kind whose itty bitty cheeks you want to pinch." Had someone abandoned him here? Alistair was a bastard, and yet he'd had the fortune of living part-time in the arl's holdings. Granted, he spent an extended stay in the stables, but there were worse places to live - nowhere, for instance. "He's so cute - how could anyone leave him like this?" Alistair was not, in reality, anticipating an answer, question purely rhetorical, although the query that followed after - accompanied by shuffling paws - pleaded for direction. The lion present must have been older than Alistair, and he had to know how to - do the adult bit where he handled the entire situation to spare the experience-deprived individuals such as Alistair. "What do we do with him? Do you think whoever left him here is coming back? Perhaps they forgot the other child they left at another border somewhere." The odds of that as the truth were dismal, but Alistair wished that for once the cheerless certainty was not the most likely. "What if he gets hungry? Does he need milk? I, er, well - neither of us can do that. Or can you? That is to say - I don't mean to assume - I'll be quiet now."

"Is there no goat milk nearby?" Aloysius' deep voice spoke loudly as he walked over, the hulking brown wolf staring down at the small child. Host was fond of children, Aloysius was unsure how to feel about them. They were so fragile, and Aloysius just wanted to protect them. To protect all of the people in the Ascendants. He was thousands of years old, but his host was so young, so naive. He was naive to love, naive to basic affections. Was it because of his mother figures dying? Host always felt that his mothers had left him behind, after all.

Nevermind that, Aloysius had to focus on what was going on right now. With a polite nod of his head towards Alistair, Aloysius turned to Moonmade, waiting for his decision on this.

Re: CLOSED MY EYES - open; abandoned - rhosmari - 09-27-2018

Distractions seemed to come from many different places and that was no different here. At home he was always curious and watching everything, wandering where he shouldn't have and so when another voice suddenly arose from a different place that wasn't the lion he was attempting to get to play with him the young child turned his white pupiled eyes on the creature it had come from. Even upside down he was confused and he showed it with a soft tilt of his head as he stared at Alistair, gaze wide eyed as he looked at him. He didn't know what he was but that mattered little to the child as he slowly wiggled his way onto stumpy legs and began to shakily walk over to him. For some reason the cub thought he was saying something important and he should listen and so he sat down with a lift huff and an upright position to listen to him. His head was held up so that the other knew that he had his attention. But he was doing this right? Right? A word seemed to stick in his head but his brain couldn't correlate the word into speech and so as he tried to mimick the word it came out much more shortened. "Ba...babababa...." His tongue felt funny saying it and he lifted a paw to try and put in his mouth before he was caught up by another creature appearing.

A coo left his muzzle as he turned and nearly fell on his own chin. Shuffling to push himself to stand and make his way over to the canine. His eyes were on the other's paws then and he tilted his head to the side before looking down at his own paw. Once, then twice he looked back and forth between the paws before he aimed to put his paw on top of the other creature's. His paw was so tiny that seeing one so big seemed to make him giddy and he giggled sweetly before he bounded back and forth, kicking out his back legs before falling over. Yet he rolled right over with flailing paws before seeing something else that caught his attention, it was a worm on the ground and he hunched himself down, pushing his face almost against the dirt to watch it as it started to crawl off.

Re: CLOSED MY EYES - open; abandoned - MirrorEdge - 09-27-2018

Thea had watched on after the first few arrived, for once not offering her opinions on the matter because this was a child who probably couldn't speak more than a few words, somebody she used to pass off as weak, now terrified her. Not a matter of strength, no, she was terrified now that if she spent too much time around a child, really any time, they would end up like her, and it was clear she was uncomfortable as she shifted, inching away from the child, before finally speaking, quickly and quietly, as if it might gain Lachlan's attention or trigger the toe-biting child to crawl after her, "Does he have teeth or something yet? Because then maybe he might not need milk. Maybe something chewed up, like, really chewed up so he can just swallow it."

HAZEL ELISE CAELUM ★ THE ASCENDANTS ★ COCOA FELINE ★ GOLD EYES ★ IMMORTAL ★ 3 SOULS ★ 11 MONTHS ★ HAZILLE ★ COLT NAMED ARION

To Hazel, evening walks were bliss: the tale of the day simmered low over the grass, harmonious with crickets and cicadas and the gentle blink of fireflies. A purple haze filtered through the horizon line, settling over the landscape like a haze, calm and serene. She would always be a fan of sunrises and the refreshing concept of morning, but there was something so utterly satisfactory about the lilac fog of dusk that she couldn't quite lay a finger on.

It was on one of these walks that the cocoa feline stumbled upon the small group huddled around a young lion cub. Curious, Hazel made her way around her friends to reach the young boy, golden optics round as she noted his odd ebony pelt. He was a stark contrast to their other local lion: Moon. Fascinating, but not as much as Lachlan's lack of parental supervision.

"He's so little!" The feline purred, smile blooming against her lips. She wanted badly to reach forward and draw the cub against her side - he looked so lost and confused, so young and unsure. Hazel wondered if she could do it: if she could reach for him without spiraling down her haunted memory lane. If he would even let her. Maybe he was too frightened for that; maybe he'd run off into the forest, after his mother.

At the others' comments about his eating abilities, Hazel raised her head, frowning. "I don't think it matters right now if he can eat or not," She pursed her lips. "We need to get him somewhere more secure than the border right before nightfall." Golden optics flickered between the direction of the observatory and the cub, offering him a warm smile. Names and introductions could come later - right now, they just needed to get him to safety. "Ave, pusio." The Latin slipped off her tongue, softer than any English syllable she could ever manage. "Do you want to go inside?" Hazel had limited experience with children, despite the many that roamed the Ascendants; she tried to make the question as simple as possible, hoping he would understand the basic intonation rather than the English itself.

Re: CLOSED MY EYES - open; abandoned - rhosmari - 09-28-2018

His concentration was glued and stuck on this worm that was slowly making it's way across the ground. Clumsy he slammed a paw on the ground as if he was going to squish it but he missed completely which caused the young cub to get a little miffed. His cheeks puffed out a bit and he attempted to do it again only to miss once more. But it was slowly become apparent that he was not going to be able to catch it. So he lifted his head up and he noticed there were animals around him the previously. It worried him a little and his ears pulled against his skull, lowering his body against the ground as he looked at them before he curled his tail around his body. Looking around he noticed one feline was approaching him, looking at him with warm eyes and a even warmer smile on her muzzle. His nose twitched and he slowly lifted a paw, creeping forward almost hesitantly although her voice seemed lulling and reassuring. His underdeveloped mind would have taken that from anyone as safe. A soft mewl came from his throat as he edged his way closer and she seemed to be saying something but he couldn't understand it and so instead he attempted to press his head against her leg, a gentle boop to be picked up. He liked being carried though he didn't know that he was much too big for the feline to carry all on her own.
