PREDATORS (open, return) - - DELTA - - 09-12-2018

DELTA

[member=1310]OWEN.[/member]
Flecks of dried blood from her last meal was still visible as she trotted onward, towards the one place that would be the closest thing she could call home, even if she did not fully understand the concept.

To her, home was where her pack was. It was no fixed place, unless her sisters and Alpha were there, and there to stay. Before, it had been the Ascendents, and Isla Nublar, and many other places, even if she was unaware of the names. She held no fondness for those places, never really had. It was the same with the Typhoon, and any other future home they may have.

The jungle was a familiar sight for Delta, who was intelligent enough to recognize her surroundings, and with this, she sped up, tail whipping behind her as she maneuvered through the trees and foliage, her teal skin blending in quite well with her surroundings, yellow optics settled solely on the obstacles in front of her.

Since dinorsaurs had gone extinct, the animals that had taken their place at the top of the food chain held too much weakness to ever surpass predators such as Delta and her sisters. Which meant wherever they went, they easily could climb their way to the top, whether alone or in a group. It was simply the way things worked.

A huffing sound could be heard as she finally came to a stop, nostrils flaring as she bent to the ground, claws tapping the ground in both anticipation and excitement as she caught traces of a familiar scent. Alpha. Alpha is here. No sign of any of her sisters, though. With this in mind, she lifted her head, letting out a loud broadcast call, something that should send anything with any common sense running, and alert Alpha and her sisters of her location.

The knowledge her sisters weren't here alarmed her somewhat, but again, Delta was intelligent enough to recognize the weakness in the pack now, with no beta to keep them in check. Clearly, they needed one, and as the next highest-ranking, it was only natural she fill that spot.

She was less aggressive than her other sisters, but that did not mean she was friendly. She was a feral carnivore, after all, the top of the food chain. The main reason she had managed to keep the position as Blue's right hand was because unlike Blue, who's argressiveness tended to have the older utahraptor charging into things, Delta was more cautious.

One thing was clear, though.

Delta was home.

Owen had been doing his usual rounds of patrol through the territory, his ears pricked and alert as he sniffed for any signs of intruders. He had noticed how people had been ditching the Typhoon lately, maybe that was bad enough for him to believe that he needed to help. His patrol had been going smoothly, up until he heard a loud call. But not just any call.

A fucking broadcasting call.

And while Owen knew all of his girls well, he couldn't tell which one it was whom called to him. Owen lifted his muzzle up, releasing his own howling call, his muscles kicking into overdrive. The german shepherd leaped over a fallen tree, his back legs roaring for him to rush further more. Faster, faster!

He was free of the plants around him as he saw the familiar green tinted, rough skin of Delta in the distance. "Coming!" Came the chitter from Owen as he rushed over to see the returning utahraptor. His tail was still, his body relaxed as the german shepherd smiled at the sight of his girl. Delta. "Welcome home! You went for a journey or something?" Snickered Owen, reaching into his side bag to grab a dead rat. He always had those with him, however strange it was. It was an unusual thing, this bond that he had with the raptors he had raised, but it was there.

Owen remained calm despite the overwhelming amount of excitement that coursed through him, filling his lungs with air he never thought he needed. "Head up." Owen barked out, the simple order being one he had taught the raptors while they had been living in the damn enclosures he and they had hated so much. He hated having them caged, which was why he had them so free now.

If Delta followed his order, Owen had a fat rat for the utahraptor in his paw to give to her. A familiar antic, something to make sure he was still Alpha.

If she was capable of feeling joy, Delta would've probably felt it as her yellow gaze spotted a familiar form, an affectionate chitter coming from her jaws.

It was strange, probably, how she considered such a weak and frail thing her superior, somebody who's spine she could easily crush if she felt like it, but to her, Owen was just as precious as her sisters were, a part of the pack, the one she had imprinted on when she first hatched. There had been another, as well, a human that also trained Delta and her sisters that she had been... fond of, though, from another's point of view, it may have been better described as tolerance.

Delta took a few steps forward, claws flexing a bit and moving her head this way and that, as if confirming that yes, this was Alpha. The words he spoke were odd, though, she had long since learned to understand tone. For her, it could be considered similar to the difference between something such as a screech, or a chuff. Those two things simply were different. It was the same with tone. And the tone that Owen held was one of affection, and for a few moments, Delta thought he had gone soft, pupils constricting ever-so-slightly, before the command was given, something more familiar to her, from the time she was young.

The pale green utahraptor lifted her head with an annoyed chuff, tail lashing in irritation and sickle claws tapping as she waiting for her reward, eyes never leaving the fat rat in his jaws. As easy as it would be to just take the rat, it meant disrespecting Owen. And their bond had been built on respect. It was the same with all of her sisters.

'Pack?' She babbled to Owen, tilting her head in a mixture of both confusion and curiousity as she awaited an answer.

Maybe he had gone a bit soft, but any trace of that was gone the moment Owen had tossed the rat into the air for Delta to swallow. She always had been extremely intelligent, as all of the raptors were, Delta was just the most patient.

When asked what happened to the pack, Owen's ear twitched slightly. Her chittering and tapping was familiar to him, he wasn't untasked in his pack's language, especially after so long of being with them. Pack gone. Return soon. Owen babbled right back, tilting his head a bit to the side. Was Delta worried about her sisters? As of right now, since Blue hadn't come back in a very long time, Delta was considered Beta.

Owen could only hope the other Typhooners had the brains to not approach the raptor with an aggressive or fearful air about them. He didn't feel like snapping at Delta, not when she had just returned. Well, it wasn't like he could stop a prey-hunter drive in a feral animal.

Re: PREDATORS (open, return) - Grey - 09-13-2018

A island of dinosaurs. Their presence had been so insignificant that Bakugou nearly forgot the utahraptors existed on the island. He had familiarised himself with the two types: the scaly ones and the feathered ones, both of which were equally unsettling. From the looks of it, this one that the reaver sees from a distance must be one of the raptors belonging to Owen. The ragdoll scrunches his nose, his fiery tail crackling in silent distaste. If the pair were paying close enough attention to their surroundings, perhaps they would be able to feel eyes on them but Bakugou was sitting in his lifeguard tower, holding a pair of binoculars to his tired eyes. His signature scowl is laced upon his youthful features, a critical glint from his sanguine hues. He knows for a fact that he isn't particularly fond of the raptors reappearing. Exodus was enough and now the venandi were beginning to rise again. To see one of Owen's raptors return only posed as more of a threat to Bakugou's 'peace'. Well, peace if he ignores the intense pain which riled his cells. He wishes he knew what was wrong with him but instead he chooses to waste away on those painkillers, ruining his own image of himself.

Bakugou, beginning to move once again, walks down his stairs and towards Owen. There's a lack of expression on his face but anyone looking at his eyes could see that the male was simply unsure how to feel. A nothingness has consumed the adolescent who is merely reacting to his surroundings, too dosed up to really consider how he felt or what he wanted. Owen is a raptor trainer, he reminds himself. Or at least, that was what the other crewmate told him. He doesn't really know because he cares little for the german shepherd other than the fact that he was intensely petty, something he found rather vexing. "Which one o' your raptors is that?" the reaver asks, twitching an ear. Should the feral creature try to bite him, he will probably summon a wall of fire on impulse. It always happens before he realises what's happening but it's saved him a number of times.

[ ooc ] rushed, sorry!

Pack gone. Return soon.

Those words were just confirmation of what she knew already, but it still caused the pale green Utahraptor a bit of distress, letting out a chitter to acknowledge Owen's words. But they would come back. Her sisters always did. It was simply the way the pack worked: if they got separated, eventually, they'd come back together again.

The feeling of the blood from the fat rat she'd devoured dripping down her maw could be felt, and Delta flicked her head, as if trying to shake the rest off. She tended to be a bit more clean than her sisters after a meal, if only due to the fact she had more avian DNA than her sisters did, something that her instincts often encouraged her to do something similar to preening, even if it meant just flicking off the blood from time to time, this still satisfied that need for the raptor.

Of course, many avian species had also proven to be highly intelligent, such as crows or African Greys, capable of counting and even adding, and this was probably not the best combination as raptors had been well known for being quite intelligent already, and this only made Delta more curious than the rest of her sisters, so long as she didn't deem the object of her curiousity a threat.

The arrival of Bakugou just sparked that innate curiousity within Delta, who slowly began to take steps forward, purring curiously as she went to investigate, yellow optics keeping a sharp eye out for any sign of aggression or fear from the tiny feline, something that could potentially mean an enemy or food to her, before settling on a chuff in front of his face, the scent of the rat and whatever her last meal was still detectable, looking almost satisfied with her investigation before turning to Owen, tilting her head in curiousity and babbling, 'Food?'

While she was less aggressive than the other raptors, this did not stop her from seeing most creatures as food. She had decided that Bakugou was not a threat, for now, but he was also not a food giver or food. He didn't quite have a label, in Delta's mind.

Owen figured that someone would come along eventually. He hoped they had the brains to know what the right thing to do, hoped they knew that his raptors were all feral, dead set on believing in pack mentality. They were intelligent creatures, but yet they still had that feral side, making it harder for them to tolerate those outside of their own pack. Besides, you could feed the raptors and you'd still only be a food giver, tolerated by that certain raptor you've fed.

The german shepherd's ear twitched as he heard the hot-tempered feline's voice from behind him, watching Delta's body movements cautiously before his jaws parted to let once more, another babble leave his throat. "Not food. Ally." His fur was thick from oncoming winter, but it still prickled in warning for Delta. She wasn't to move from the spot she was in, and Owen's head tilted in unison with the utahraptor. A habit.

When Bakugou spoke up, the shepherd let a soft chuckle leave his throat. He would have called Bakugou a friend, but he knew that Delta didn't understand what that was. When they had fought the indo-rex together back when he was human, the t-rex had been their ally, even if it was just for that fight. "Her name is Delta, she's the Beta of the raptor pack. Well, for now. We'll see how things go when her sisters come back." He clicked his tongue, reaching into his hip bag once more to grab another rat, tossing it up for the raptor. He should probably go for a run with her, she probably needed the exercise. Well, after a good meal, though.

Lucifer knew these raptors, he still vividly remembered seeing his little brother cut down by one - only eased in that said little brother came back

Lucifer was rather tired of losing family members - it had been something of a relief he wouldn't have to mourn Luca too.

but he eyed the raptor idly and inclined his head to Owen "your raptors won't be a problem for mine will they?" referring to the small still growing feathered ones that latched onto him as their mother - which he'd taken the role of graciously and with great dignity - though slight amusement at their antics, children that they still were.

"They haven't seen feathered raptors before, so I don't know, to be honest. The most I could do is try to have Delta think they're also pack members, although that is rare and unlikely." Owen replied to Lucifer's question, his ears twitching momentarily to listen. It was a good question, they really would have to test the theory. With the age gap between all of the raptors, Owen had a feeling Delta would have a more motherly draw towards the children.

"It's nice to see your raptors, though. I'm sure Delta will see them as little versions of herself, just with feathers." Owen snickered, pushing his bag of food over to the raptor to keep her busy for now. "I can't be sure with them being feral."

Re: PREDATORS (open, return) - Grey - 09-15-2018

He stiffens slightly when the raptor looks directly at him, likely because he doesn't expect such a barbaric beast to look him so intently, as if trying to decipher what exactly the ragdoll was. It was as if the creature were incapable of recognising things others found to be far too obvious, twitching an ear in mild disappointment because the raptor must be another one of those feral beasts that roamed The Typhoon. He would never consider them to be members of their island because they the same as prey, the same as the kinds of pets that other members carried along with them. His fur raises when Owen speaks to the utahraptor with words he does not recognise, frowning briefly but quickly dropping the expression when the german shepherd looked at him again. Delta. Right, he thinks, unimpressed and knowing he will likely forget the name in the long run. He wonders if the reptile was even capable of recognising her own name, about to ask the question when something else creeps into his mind, another curiosity sparking within the reaver. "Beta," Bakugou repeats rather aimlessly, watching meat be thrown towards the utahraptor in disinterest. "Who's the alpha then?" He raises a brow towards the male.

His inquisitive expression isn't help for long though when his fellow reaver approaches, darkness and all. Luciferus. All looks of criticism escapes him, like light retreating from a rising wall. Bakugou has some respect for the much older creature, or at least he'd never intend to be on the male's bad side considering his dragon form. Intimidation works as a way of keeping Bakugou under control, or at least that was what his mother had always imposed on him. 'For mine'. The ragdoll turns his sanguine hues directly to the ebony male, teeth still pressed together in fear he would allow himself to a Freudian slip. One of his? The memories return to the numb male, remembering the way the ugly cluster of feathers would follow and chirp to the male as though Lucifer were their mother. Although he can see how the reaver can pass as a paternal figure, he cannot for the life of him sit there and imagine Lucifer nestling with such small and fragile-looking raptors. He begins to feel his own kind of stress from these forming unions, these two dominant males and their pack. It bothers him to know that there were tiny armies beginning to form within The Typhoon. There better not be an uprising for Bakugou would find himself siding with The Typhoon than the likes of Lucifer or Owen should they betray the island.

"Why don't your raptors have feathers anyway?" He's seen many interpretations of such prehistoric reptiles. Originally, he knew the scaled creatures to be featherless. It gave them an almost wyvern-like appearance, something rather intimidating. But with recent studies, Bakugou learnt that raptors were most likely found to be bearing feathers along their bodies, dappled in a turkey-esque demeanor. He thought it was rather laughable until he saw the real life thing, the venandi be born that day.
