Ren wasn't the exploring type. He didn't walk out of his nest with the intent of going on adventures or for fun. He found no need to and it wasn't something he would find entertaining. Perhaps is was from the traveling and conquering he did previously that left a foul taste in his mouth. He, however, did enjoy going on walks. He could be alone with his thoughts and truly delve into his mind. He could analyze himself without being interrupted by others and he didn't have to be on guard. All he had to think about was himself and the steps he took so he could find his way back home. It was an odd sensation, calling Tanglewood home. It... It wasn't his home. At least, not yet. There was a mental barrier in his mind that prevented him from calling anywhere his home. Was this due to the trauma of his previous home or is this denial? Was he subconsciously denying himself of any happiness? If so, why? Fear? Anger? Rebellion? Who was he scared of? Who was he angry with? Who was he rebelling against? These questions and similar ones had him in a choke-hold and refused to let him go. He didn't know where to begin and he felt hopeless.

His purpose was to oppress, to control. But now that he's left that behind, what is he now?

He didn't know where he was walking or how he ended up here, but the golden sea before him was hard to ignore. Drawing him back out of his mind and into reality, he noticed the sea of wheat and rye before him. He was confused at first, but once he collected himself, he found his paws carrying him into the tall stems. Inhaling slowly, dark red eyes filled with wonder as he slowly picked his way through. Before he knew it, he had come across an old barn that has seen better days. Walking close to it, he placed a paw on the decaying walls before sighing and sitting down. Leaning up against it, he stared out into the golden field in front of him. Home, huh? He thought to himself with a dry chuckle. When has he ever done something, anything to deserve a home? Tanglewood was too good for him and he knew this. He had no qualms about admitting it as well. Then what did he deserve you ask? A cold, empty cave somewhere in the world away from others. He would live for eternity, watching plants grow and wither. Retell tales of when redwoods were mere saplings struggling in the winter. He'd watch as young birds jump out of their nests in attempt to fly for the first time. They were young and inexperienced so he'd wait patiently below to catch those who needed more time to learn. After all, what's the point in possessing such a strong body and not use it to protect? The muscles that have been conditioned to snap necks and dent skulls were still hardened, but had no wielder to put it simply; no purpose. It all went back to purpose. It always did.

He hated this. Being confused about himself to the point of pitying oneself; sulking wasn't his thing. But here he was, leaned up against an old barn trying not to lose his mind as he contemplated many things.

[align=center][div style="borderwidth=0px; width: 65%; line-height:120%; text-align: justify;font-family: verdana;"]On the opposite end of the spectrum, Ophelia definitely was the exploring type. It was hard for her to sit still, to spend her waking hours doing nothing more than lazing about. She liked to be on the move, learning what she could and building up her abilities until she was certain they wouldn't fail her. That was why, among other reasons, she was so stressed about her broken wing. This wasn't supposed to happen to her; she'd worked hard to try to prevent something like this, and it was for nothing. It wasn't... She couldn't process it, not properly, so she found herself trying to find things to do to keep herself from having to process it. If she didn't rest, she couldn't think. If she couldn't think, she couldn't break. It was likely faulty logic, but it was all she really had going for her.

That was why, right now, she was out and about. She'd been trying to get some hunting in, though it was a lot harder than normal with her lack of use in her wings and the occasional pang of pain that moving wrong brought her. Still, she'd rather do this than be confined for days on end. At least she'd caught a couple of mice in the fields. She would probably feel a lot worse if she couldn't hunt right without flying. She could. It was just harder. Maybe she relied on her wings too much.

She took a breath, about to let it out in a sigh when she noticed a figure leaning on the barn. Oh. She wasn't as alone as she'd thought. Her gaze swept over him, recognizing him as Ren. She hadn't talked to him much before, didn't know him well, but... He seemed... off. Was he normally this downtrodden? Were the bad feelings just contagious today? She frowned slightly, making a hasty decision without even really thinking about it. Before she could come up with any other ideas, she trotted forward, mice held in her jaws.

When she was near enough, she dropped them near Ren's paws, looking back up at him with a slight smile when she had. "You seem down." she said in place of a hello. "You don't have to talk to me about it if you wouldn't like to. I'm not here to pry. Just... I think you could use something tasty more than I could. I don't mind sharing."

[align=center][div style="width:60%;font-family:arial;font-size:11px;text-align:justify;line-height:130%;word-spacing:-0.5px;letter-spacing:0.5px;"]Ren wasn't expecting company. At least, not this far out from where individuals usual frequent. He forced himself to hold back the growl that threatened to rumble in his throat as the bright golden wheat parted and swayed, indicating someone was approaching. Due to the straight path they were on towards him, he could deduce they intended to say hello. The opposite of what Ren needed right now. He escaped to here to be alone with his thoughts, not to be accompanied by anyone. He didn't see any familiar pink petals fluttering in the wind so it was safe to say the creature wasn't Delilah. The thought of her made him feel a tad better, imagining the pastel maine coon gingerly poking her head out of the stems as magenta pools shone brightly at him. Her pink fur and the golden colour of the wheat, though both soft colours, would contrast each other in a way that would almost work. Ruling out Delilah, he didn't hear heavy paw steps and the way the wheat was gently pushed out the way indicated a smaller frame rather than the large build of Zimavich. Ren would like to think he would enjoy having conversations with the bear. He hasn't seen him around in a while and was starting to wonder if he was doing alright. He would love to spar with him one day when he has everything mostly figured out about himself. With Zima, Ren felt the pressure of him dropping his guard and not having to filter himself be lifted off his shoulders. Reason being, if he were to step out of line, he knew Zima had the power the suplex him and put him back in his lane.

He couldn't help the amused exhale through his nostrils at the thought.

It wasn't either of the two he wanted to see which left him feeling uneasy. He didn't trust himself to be alone with another individual, far from watchful eyes or listening ears. His annoyance ebbed into fear as he carefully watched with narrowed dark red eyes at the parting stems. A few seconds later, red orbs met with their blue counterpart as Ophelia appeared seemingly out of nothing. This led with a nervous twitch of his short tail, though he straightened his posture upon her arrival. "Ophelia," he greeted her, dipping his head politely. As she continued, he noticeably stiffened at her observation and awkwardly shifted his gaze to look elsewhere. "I-I do?" Her assumption was correct, but what caught him off-guard was the accuracy in such a small amount of time. As she spoke, Ren couldn't bring himself to look at her, knowing his poker face wasn't ready just yet. Around the time she finished was when he managed to collect himself and shove his thoughts back into the closet. He returned his gaze back to her before looking down at the mouse at his paws. He wasn't hungry. He didn't get hungry. At least, not anymore. Her sharing her food with him was pointless... Redundant... Unnecessary... "Oh, u-um," he was at a loss for words. Kindness wasn't something the demon was used to, nor was he used to the feeling it sparked within him. Although her sharing food with him was senseless as far as chasing away hunger went, the thought of her noticing he was troubled and was willing to lend an ear made the walls around his heart and conscious teeter.

Recollecting himself, he continued, genuinely touched by her actions though no smile surfaced. "Thank you for the kind gesture." How can such a wonderful person exist? Please stop... I don't deserve your kindness. Your thoughtfulness is wasted on me. He thought as he dipped his head once more in a gracious manner. "I am... Still trying to understand some things... Come to terms with a few others. I would rather not speak about them." He spoke, deep tone slow and careful as to not accidentally give anything away. Surely Ophelia would resent him if he were to say anything about what was going through his mind. Delilah too. Delilah was the reason he was here in the first place- he didn't want her to end up hating him. Although he didn't feel much for the black feline, she still was pleasant company. He didn't wish to upset her either. There was a small pause before Ren continued, a welcoming flick of his ear. "Would you... Perhaps like to join me? Th-that is, if you are not busy. I do not want to inconvenience you more than I already have."
