Used to the arid and spacious territories of his youth, Tanglewood's dark menagerie of swamp trees was a bigger wake up call to Axle than he'd like to admit. Having so much water and food lying about ripe for the picking seemed like a miracle in the mind of the male, who even when they were happily guarding his family often had to compete for a meal with the bigger dogs of the yard. The water seemed tainted or saline in most places, the prey in some sections weren't animals that he was familiar with (why were frogs so slimy?) but it was still edible. It would've been the perfect place to settle down until the resources had been run dry, yet the Heeler still hesitated to call this place a home. He'd listened to the announcements, he'd helped out since they helped take a muzzle off that was forced upon him with no strings attached, he was foolish not to consider staying.

Axle was fine being that fool for now out of sheer stubbornness. The medium sized canine pushed his way into the camp, three very grey and very dead fish dangling from his mouth by their tails. An ocean's stench still lingered on the prey, flares of obsidian nostrils evident with every breath that the Australian Cattle Dog took. Once again, the smell of fish wasn't exactly something that he was assimilated to, food was food though and Axle refused to complain about it even if he'd had to traverse the 'treacherous' beach to receive them. Curling the corners of his lips, two of his catch would slip out from between his loosened grip ungracefully onto the floor - the third would be the male's meal for the day. Leaving the prey for any old fool to pick up, Axle would quietly slink out of the town. There was no place in particular he'd like to settle down and eat, anywhere that didn't have the hustle and bustle around his precious catch.

malphas didn't know how he felt about axle. he was a strange one- usually, one joined a clan with the intention to stay. of course, people left- like iota, but those people were outliers. most didn't just announce they had a debt they had to pay, and they'd make it up by staying. it was strange. perhaps he saw it through his loyalist lenses, but he couldn't imagine a life without tanglewood. a life without a cause he'd die for.

just as he was thinking about it, out of the corner of his eye he saw the blue heeler slip out of camp. huh. maybe he'd talk to him, see what was up. it was all he could do, anyways. taking long strides to reach the bigger male, he navigated around him. "on your left," the medic announced, now walking next to the cattle dog. "hey. i'm malphas- medic. you're axle, right?" he paused, but didn't wait to get right to the point. "how are you enjoying tanglewood so far? it's nice, isn't it?"
