lonely hide and seek -- o, lost - guts - 07-16-2018

"Daddy?"

The word is spoken into the warm air, carried along the breeze and fading into the distance. There's no reply to the meek voice, and stones jab into small paws as she treks on. The sun is setting, delving down towards the horizon, and she's still horribly lost. Anxiety ties her stomach into knots. In her young mind, every shadow suddenly turns into something evil lurking after her, looming over like hungry beasts. She would have rather been back home, curled up at her father's side as they ate before settling in for the night. The thought she might be stuck out there when darkness fell only made her grow more frantic.

Her legs hurt, and she knew she had been walking for a while. "Daddy! Where are you?" she calls, then stops as the trees turn into plains, land stretching out just like it did at her home. Hope flickered in her chest, though it was quickly diminished as she caught the scent. It didn't smell like them. Not only that, it seemed like other animals were around, too. She could smell them, their scents heavy in the air.

Defeated and tired, the serval kit settled for taking shelter in a bush, her light fur barely hidden against the green underbrush. Tears stung at the corner of her eyes, lip quivering as she tried to accept the fact she may never get home. She wanted to see her dad, to see Mr. Shiro again. But ultimately she was stuck there, weeping softly.

It was strange to feel the swell of worry and tender care towards those lost ones, seeking to protect and nurture for it was lacking in their own life, something within them yearning to see any child smile and happy, allowed their childhood.

The voice carried on the wind, soft as it was they had become attuned to the voices who seemed lost and confused, seeking a place to stay, their attention quickly turning to it. Young, all too young to be walking alone within an unfamiliar land. Art moved quickly, abandoning their pry task, little more than patrol about the edge of the border, their rolling gait making progress somewhat slow. “Hello?” Softly they called when they found a light scent mingling with the deeper which signified the Ascended, unfamiliar and almost buried yet the faint traces where enough to bring them closer.

Golden and black. They knew of no such plant which held those colours, nor which seemed so small and scared. Slowly now they approached, pressing as low to the ground as their bulky body would allow them, inching closer in hopes to not startle Sakaris. “You're okay, I'm a friend, I won't hurt you,” keeping their tone soft they allowed a small smile to curl their lips, reaching a paw out for her to take if she so desired.

Re: lonely hide and seek -- o, lost - Suiteheart - 07-16-2018

SUITE
HEART
Children that became lost always worried Suiteheart. She considered herself a mother before everything else now, and it always made her nervous when a child wandered off. They were too small, too inexperienced with the world. Most children saw good in everything too, and while that wasn't a bad thing, it could prove dangerous. Not everyone that walked the earth was kind or welcoming. Luckily, Sakaris had landed herself in the Ascendants; this group took care of all that wandered over their borders.

The tiny voice that was coupled with an unfamiliar scent drew her near. She had heard rumors of different groups popping up not too terribly far from the main four, but she had yet to venture out to see them. The white feline made a mental note to do so, but she had more pressing matters to deal with. Atreus had beat her to the lost child, but she was happy it had been them - they seemed like a very kind soul.

"Have you made a new friend?" the Admiral questioned, voice gentle as she came to stand beside her fellow Ascendant. Baby blue eyes peered into the bush, where she could scarcely make out the form of the baby serval. "Are you lost, darling?"

The words that broke the silence made her jolt where she was laid, startled. Her eyes dart around before settling on the stranger beyond the bush she hid herself in, studying them closely with baby blue eyes. They didn't seem to be hostile or have any cruel intentions, and being the trusting child she was, she slowly inched her way out. The soothing tone of voice helped, and soon she was standing meekly in front of them, only now noticing there were two of them there. She takes a deep breath, trying her best to offer them both a shaky smile. First impressions were everything.

"Um, h-hello," Sakaris says quietly, studying them. At Suite's question, she nods, sniffling and wiping at her eye with a paw. "Yeah. I was with my daddy, but then I got lost," she's hoping they could tell her where she was. It would have been reassuring to at least know the name of where she was at, since the scent markings were there. This must have been a clan of some sort.

He didn't do well with children. It wasn't that he disliked them, he just didn't know how to interact with any of them. The last time he had to interact with someone younger than him and was considered a child was his own sisters. That was years ago though. Since he had joined the military he only managed to interact with those in a military sense and with those that were older than he was anyway. He knew how to act like a soldier and nothing else, as it had been drilled into him anyway. The Freelancer didn't have a lot of experience in dealing with children in the field anyway. He wasn't one that worked with feelings well now either. He preferred not having to interact with really anyone that he came across. Fighting in the war meant that most of the families were evacuated before they could get into the crossfire. Having spaceships that were willing to take refugees really helped after all.  Washington only ever really had to deal with the enemies that were trying to kill them and nothing more and nothing less.

The Freelancer now as less prone to deal with children out of the fact that he didn't know how to address them. Carolina would probably be better suited even if she was more stubborn and aggressive than he was at the moment. Washington had overheard voices on his daily patrol, and the lion-sized smilodon began to make his way over. He recognized two of the faces that were there and there was a small animal underneath a bush. Washington kept himself a good distance away as he knew that his looks were certainly intimidating with a helmet and armor on an already large animal. He also didn't like to get physically close to others either. Washington blinked his golden gaze as he listened to the animal say that they were looking for their father. "Are you going to send a search party out for the child's father?" The Freelancer would question Suiteheart, since she was the highest ranked out of all of them. The smilodon didn't seem to quell the child's worry about her current situation, although he did turn his helmet covered head as he looked at her. "Uhh hey there." Was all the awkward soldier could get out as means of reassurance. "speech"

SUITE
HEART
"Ah, there she is," the white feline smiled as Sakaris slowly emerged from her hiding place. The poor child, while sporting a smile of her own, still appeared worried and fragile. The Admiral didn't blame her; she would be just as scared at that age. "I'm Suiteheart. You can call me Suite though. What's your name?"

Her jaws parted to say more, but Washington arrived and was asking questions himself. "Yeah, something like that. We've had a few kiddos stumble onto your lands before, and we always send a little patrol with them to guide them back home." There had been an instance like this not too long ago with Clementine - from Snowbound, if she were remembering everything correctly.

Returning her attention to Sakaris, she said, "This is the Ascendants." She was unsure if the child might know about their group, but it was worth a shot, wasn't it? "Can I ask what group you and your dad belong to? Me and my friends wouldn't mind walking you home, honey."
