— ( reference ) there is no telling, at first glance, whether Chain is more dead than he is alive. Scars litter his body, most noticeably on his face, and half of them are in a constant state of reopening and closing as a result of his constantly dying and regenerative cells. Despite the fact that his constant wounds may give the semblance of a dead man walking, everything else about Chain seems perfectly healthy. His fur, where it isn't wounded, is perfectly clean and shining, and the gaze in his eyes does not mirror a dead man's at all. The chocolate eyes are almost always sharp and attentive, aware of everything going on around him. The eyes change depending on his mood, flashing red whenever he feels anything particularly strongly. Although he usually has a normal set of eyes, occasionally his cells mistake the placement and amount he is supposed to have, giving him extra eyes that may last up to a day. Likewise, Chain can alter his appearance at will as a result, and often dons a large pair of wings on his back. Chain is almost always seen with smoke-like appendages floating off of him, however the dark material is actually the aforementioned cells flaking off of his body. He can turn into nothing more than a mist of these cells, being permeable and able to use this to teleport to places and avoid injuries. He is almost always seen with a cigarette in his mouth, or if he is not actively smoking, then he always carries the scent of smoke with him. He wears three sets of dog tags around his neck, ones that have the name "gabriel reyes" etched onto them, the two others of two other obscure names.
Chain also has a mask that he carries around with him for vigils and for battle, closely resembling the face of a barn owl. He does not wear this constantly, but it is not uncommon to see him wearing it whenever his body starts to deteriorate moreso than usual and he wishes to hide it as much as he can.
