SAN CREADO — GUIDE [08/23] - SAN CREADO - 07-12-2018

SAN CREADO
Welcome to the town of San Creado, where nothing is as it seems. Knowledge drifts by word of mouth of a clandestine city that was once in ruins standing again. The temptation of a remote escape surrounded by vast nothingness brought a new, supernatural population to the town after years of its dormancy, revitalised by the permeation of hushed voices, new faces, and the occasional bump in the night. The people lie secluded from the external machinations of politics and conflict, apathetic unless dragged into the thick of it, otherwise immersed in the superficial amusements of the beach-town of San Creado.

Territory
San Creado is a small coastal town with a moderately sized boardwalk. By the entrance is a beaten sign bearing its name. There are the usual amenities: a grocery store, a mini-mart, a diner, even a nice little town hall that’s used to hold meetings. In the very centre of town, there’s a small cathedral that no one uses, though the bell tolls every morning as a wake-up call. Who rings it? Nobody knows.

Further down the boardwalk there’s a non-functioning roller coaster and a broken down Ferris wheel, though sometimes the lights still work, if you hit the fusebox hard enough. The smell of sea salt and gas dully fills the nose, and the moment the sky grows dark, the glow of the Ferris wheel shimmers, too, over the water. There’s a mall with basically everything the locals need, a bunch of tourist-trap gift shops, and one singular emergency room that always gets filled up.

Locals make their homes in the apartments located above the gift shops, or one of the many beach houses located along the shore. Sometimes, someone will camp out on the beach, or in one of the many Ferris wheel carriages, the general consensus is that if you’re not bothering anyone, then no one will bother you.

In the back of their resident pineapple, there’s a hollowed out cavern where they go to throw parties, and the errant noises that arise have earned the location a spooky reputation. Tourists say it’s haunted, that a murder happened there and the body was never found, but truthfully, it’s just a bunch of supernaturals having fun.

Locations
Pineapple — Down near the beach there is a hollowed out pineapple, allegedly the world's largest. It is essentially what tourists come to San Creado for, braving the old decrepit town to take a photo with the big fruit. Parties are usually hosted in the space inside, and the walls are covered with graffiti, some fresh, others very old.

Boardwalk — Leading from the town to the beach is the creaky, wooden boardwalk. This is where you'll find the Ferris wheel and roller coaster, as well as a few abandoned gift shops. Sometimes, townsfolk will make homes out of whatever empty space they can find here.

Town — Where the bulk of the town resides. You'll find a bunch of shops, including, but not limited to, a small strip mall, adiner, a café, an abandoned motel, a mini-mart, a bowling alley that's connected to an outdoor theater, and some stables.

History
San Creado had been a thriving town, with the sun glancing off the sea, everyday life sustaining itself on common merriment. That was until the days grew steadily, excruciatingly hot, the sea murky, sands gathering shattered glass bottles and strewn plastics, and activity further dwindled as eventually the Ferris wheel broke down with no plans for reparation, the roller-coaster slowly outgrown by other, more impressive amusement parks across the globe.

The last dregs of the town fled when the ground trembled, subtly one day, then continuous, and a massive wave enveloped the entire town. When the water cleared up days later, collateral damage included the stores with the weakest foundations, chunks torn from roofs and doors, planks drifting out to sea. What the tsunami left was a ghost of a town; buildings dilapidated, no people, ravaged boardwalk, and strangely enough a still-standing roller coaster, by a beaten Ferris wheel with all the carriage windows shattered.

Time waits for no one, and the once-busy town of San Creado fell to abandon, but there will always be someone out there who needs a home, and slowly but surely, a group of vampires shuffled into the area. First, just one or two, then more, seeing others like them, moved in as well. Vampires are not as fragile as humans, and have no need for petty mortal things, and so San Creado started to flourish once more.

Civilization slowly picked up as more supernatural creatures caught wind of the growing city, and the San Creado you see today is a result of many years of careful containment, a well-kept secret, and a tight-knit community.

Culture
San Creado being a town full of supernaturals is a bit of an open secret; sure, there are humans here, too, but only the locals really know. The tourists that stop by for photos, commemorating their day by the World’s Largest Pineapple, or taking silly videos by the abandoned Ferris wheel, aren’t aware that San Creado is actually occupied, a bustling hotspot for all things otherworldly.
