ADVIL ADDICT — DOCTOR TRYOUTS/LESSON - PINCHER - 07-04-2018 Medicine was an essential thing to life if you wanted to live longer and not be killed by a common cold. It had been rather difficult for him to hang onto the hope that Lilyspoise would return from her absense but despite his longing to see his helpful friend around, he knew it was best for him to look for a new potential doctor that would be willing to aid those in need. So, he had decided to create a new tryout event for the doctor position since he knew with the rise of joiners, there must be someone willing to take the important position that would allow for there to be an experienced medical member for anyone to confront with whatever problems they have with their health. He had begun to prepare for the tryout event that could also be helpful for crewmates that did not have a decent medical amount of knowledge. It was good to have a doctor but he desired that everyone at least knew which herbs should be used for infected wounds or fevers. The muscular lean figure of the canine was rummaging around in the jungle temple, trying to salvage the herbs that had been damaged in the tsunami's impact. Luckily, most had been on shelves as well as being hung to dry so he used these, his jaws clamped around them as he shoved them on a bag on his back as he trudged through the flooded halls. He glanced warily around as he heard splashing and knew that dangerous sea creatures had been pushed in by the flood so the doberman picked up his pace and quickly headed to the nearest stairs that lead up to the treehouses. He reached the top, the wooden boards softly creaking as he glanced around to notice some members were resting while others spoke softly about what should be done or how they felt. A soft sigh escaped his lips as the sleek ebony dark male slumbered across one of the many bridges that connected the net of treehouses together and halted towards the largest one, glancing quickly at the ground below that was hardly visible with the dirt filled sea water that flooded the area. He grimaced ever so slightly before the Captain called out "Anyone interested in doctor tryouts, get your ass over here and state your interest! Or if you just want a medical lesson, feel free to join in." With that, the canine stepped into the treehouse and settled the bag down that allowed the herbs to be spread out as well as a book of herbs since Pincher wasn't experienced with it so much but luckily the book would help him out. He went to a sitting position, the drenched figure appearing weary and tired but his piercing icy blue eyes held a glow of determination. Some stupid ass tsunami wasn't going to stop the Typhoon and it sure as well wasn't going to slow his progress down. [align=center] © MADI

the tsunami had caused the girl to start moving around some more a bit quicker than she had expected. which was both kind of nice, and kind of awful. it hurt really bad, and she fell down and ran into things a lot now. but, she also enjoyed being around company again. she missed her crewmates. she could finally see what the heck was going on rather than staying inside all day, always looking forward to visits from the outside so she may ask a million questions.
the girl had started to learn a bit about herbs herself. she had done it right after her papa had hit his head at the meeting - she had began to learn solely for him. she wanted to help take care of him. but, she quickly realized how useful it was to know as she could help many others if they're sick or hurt. she liked to help others. but, it wasn't her passion. she wanted to protect and fight for her home more than anything else. she wanted to be strong for them. but, it was still very useful information to have. at times there can't always be a doctor right away, so why not learn how to handle things yourself until you can get one? it could be incredibly helpful to others. plus, it might make the doctor's job easier. or harder, if you try to do it without really knowing what you're doing. but, that was the point of learning it after all. so, when the girl heard her papa call out for both doctor tryouts and a lesson, she would stumble over weakly but eagerly. most of the girl's injuries were wrapped up, but still pretty fresh, so she still had a lot of troubles with them. hopefully they would get better soon, though. she shakily sat down, giving a smile to her papa. "i just wanna learn right now," she'd say simply, twitching her nose. she knew it would probably be mostly basic stuff, but she hoped she'd at least learn something. Re: ADVIL ADDICT — DOCTOR TRYOUTS/LESSON - ROSEMARY - 07-04-2018 [align=center]
The elemental witch's ears twitched as she heard her half-brother's call - doctor tryouts, hm? She found herself a bit surprised; since she came to the Typhoon, they seemed not to have a permanent physician around. Rosemary assumed that most of them weren't interested in the stuff, and the pirates thought themselves above healing knowledge; this impression got supported by her small, informal herbal lesson.
Walking over with quiet pawsteps, the mutated ocelot's main eyes drifted to Goldie as she headed for her injured niece. Sometimes, like now, Rosemary just wanted to swaddle the child in bubblewrap and keep her locked inside the belly of their ship. "You should rest; I'll make you some poppy tea after this so you can sleep, okay?" she spoke, her forked tail attempting to touch Goldie where her lightning hadn't burned her. Well aware that Pincher and Goldie couldn't sleep these days, she frustrated herself as she tried to keep tabs on their behavior and activities; unfortunately, Rosemary still needed sleep to function, and trying to chase down two insomniacs made for an exhausting and often futile endeavor. Goldie's activities, at least, seemed benign - even if still too dangerous in the overprotective aunt's opinion - but Pincher? While she wondered about this, her auxiliary eyes appraised the herbal book and stash of plants by her half-brother. It seemed he meant to make this tryout academically based, which suited Rosemary fine. Her auxiliary and main eyes converged on Pincher as she softly proclaimed, "I'll be trying out." Obviously, she added inside her head; she wasn't sure who else would seriously try out for the position. She knew of only one other person that held a bit more than basic knowledge, but Argus irritated the ocelot (besides, the wolf seemed far more interested in warfare than healing). Rosemary didn't quite understand what the position's responsibilities actually held, but she assumed it was self-explanatory: keep everyone alive. Re: ADVIL ADDICT — DOCTOR TRYOUTS/LESSON - PINCHER - 07-10-2018 Pincher allowed a faint smile to trace his muzzle when he spotted his daughter arrive though there was a small glint of worried mixed with sadness for her health. She had been going through so much and he had been unable to protect her, it irked him and he found it incredibly frustrating that he was never around when she needed him the most especially when he had returned from the dead and had found her wounded. With the most recent attack, Pincher felt frustrated with himself and often felt that he was by far the shittiest father one could become without even trying. Despite the turmoil unwinding thoughts that began to swirl inside his head, the sleek canine stated "Alright, let's get started." He noticed that his half-sibling had decided to join in and offered aid to his daughter, something he didn't find shocking. Rosemary seemed one that excelled in the medical arts and it wasn't surprising that she was keen on trying out as his own piercing icy blue eyes locked onto the four vibrant eyes as he gave a light nod. "Let's start with something simple. Let's say someone has a cut, what is the first thing one should do? And which herb is the best to be used for this situation?" He questioned as he pushed forward a mixture of herbs of various types such as elderberries, coltsfoot, and parsley. He straightened his form as the broad shouldered male then tipped his head to glance back at the book, quickly catching the answer that was written in faded words and illustrations before turning to focus on the others with his ears pricked as he waited for a response. As Pincher started the lesson, the ocelot frowned to herself as she glanced around the area once more for sanity's sake - it seemed odd that only she and Goldie appeared for the lesson. Now, she felt a bit honored that four people attended her herbal tea lesson; it seemed the pirates held even less interest in medicine than she anticipated. After all, in this insane world, getting caught with a serious wound without a medic around happened all too commonly. She thought others might find themselves more interested in learning basic first aid.
But, no matter. Her right ear flicked as her attention squared on the doberman again. If she was the only one here with serious knowledge, then that just added pressure to keep her skills sharp. "With a cut, you'd first want to clean it of any dirt or other particles. If it's bleeding excessively, perhaps because of a nick on a big vein, it's more important to stop the bleeding as soon as possible, though," she answered, trying to keep her rambling to a minimum. It was easier with her tea lesson; then, with needing to wait two minutes before each tea brewed, she had all the time in the world to ramble about minute details. Now, she felt as though some invisible timer ticked over her head. "Once the wound is clean and bloodflow isn't an issue, you'd probably want to apply a herb to prevent infection. Marigold and goldenrod - they're almost the same thing, really, closely related - are both common plants that would be good for it, though there are others," she stated, cutting herself off there. Lots of plants qualified as good for preventing infection, though she supposed Pincher wanted the best one for the job rather than a laundry list of them. Re: ADVIL ADDICT — DOCTOR TRYOUTS/LESSON - SOLVEIG - 07-12-2018 Solveig was, much to her annoyance, slow in making her way to the gathering. Medicine, though perhaps not to much surprise, had always been of use to the snowshoe. Pincher, of course, would rightly know this. She had kept her mouth shut since she had arrived at the Typhoon, given that the leader seems to have put his life together, simply letting the past die- but perhaps he would recall, and knew, what she had done for him once. But this was no such time for that consideration. Still limping from her unfortunate shoulder injury, the snowshoe made her way up just as Pincher was asking the first medical related question. She stepped up silently- well, as silently as she could with one step limped, and settled close by as she slowly gathered her paws beneath her to sit. Her head tilted softly as she regarded the herbs in front of Pincher's paws, sweeping over them with a glance of her violet eyes. What to do for a cut? Well, that was quite simple- Solveig had had enough cuts and gashes in her life to know that even in her sleep. But it was important nonetheless, wasn't it? It was the most common injury that she had seen, in any regard.
[align=center]TagsThe snowshoe exhaled slowly, her chest falling as she considered what Rosemary had to say in silence, her gaze straightening forward in a silent note of acknowledgment to the girl's knowledge. Only once she had finished speaking- a full and proper answer, which led Solveig to have little to tack on to what she said, she allowed her mind to reach out to speak, her words still honey-sweet and soft, despite the lack of audible voicing. For the sake of her shoulder, she bowed her head low to Pincher instead of properly regarding him as she might have liked. "I am interested in the position, Captain Pincher," the voice began, her eyes alone shifting back down to the herbs in front of his feet. "Miss Rosemary has said a wonderful answer on the topic already," she added quietly- Rosemary was intelligent, and of that could not be denied in any manner. Of course, Solveig wouldn't presume that her own medical skills were perfect- or even complete. She had been taught poisons to begin with, and then herbs after. A deadly woman, but a helping one all the same. "But in regards, sir, to the herbs in front of you, I would think parlsey can be eaten to reduce any infection. I would be inclined to agree with Miss Rosemary... Though I would also add that Marigold, while good for infections, can also help stave bleeding." For a moment, she paused, exhaling softly before she continued, "Though I might consider that in a pinch, some sort of leaf- perhaps one of the fronds on the island-, a bit of honey... could be used to protect the wound until proper treatment could be found, if it was needed." Re: ADVIL ADDICT — DOCTOR TRYOUTS/LESSON - raziel - 07-12-2018 Even pirates needed a doctor around. Actually, pirates, especially, needed a doctor around, given the oft reckless life style. The bookworm of a feline trotted over, minding his broken leg, sea-green eyes luminous with interest and eagerness. Being a healer was a way to contribute without being a true pirate, which Raziel could never see himself becoming. It just was not him. Of course nor was being king of his people and... The rusty spotted cat shook out the invading thoughts. It was unofficial anyhow... Just none of his siblings had made a challenge or claim. Perhaps one of his children... Well, it did no good to think on it right now. He could focus on trying out for a position as a doctor. Something of real help.
He wished he had arrived just a tad sooner, but that was alright. Nice to see there were others here who had a mind for medical knowledge. The small feline took a quiet seat, nodding to the Captain, "consider me interested in the position as well, Captain," the irishmen murmured before placing his full attention onto the answers provided and their givers. The male inclined his head in agreement, before creasing his brow. "Raspberry leaves," he began, flicking an ear, "may also be used to halt bleeding, as well as comfrey, but neither will fight off an infection, so there must be caution. Therefore horsetail or marigold are the better options, as for the previously said reasons." He tilted his head thoughtfully. Raziel had faced many injuries in his life, some easier taken care of than others, but he often had someone at his side aiding him. Most of his knowledge came from studying books and listening to his teachers; he had to worry about actually utilizing it in the field, even if he did know how to apply what he knew. In the real life, sometimes, as he had seen time and time again, things required improvisation. "I agree with using leaves as a makeshift; cabbage leaves are a good example of use, and if there's no honey, one could use bindweed. That could help tie and keep something in place for a temporary period of time." — ✦ —
Re: ADVIL ADDICT — DOCTOR TRYOUTS/LESSON - jacob w.c. - 07-13-2018
THE BLUE AND GREEN BELOW IS A MASTERPIECE — It seemed Jacob was a little late to this meeting, unfortunately. Still, he settled down among the others and quietly listened. Did he really want to be an official doctor again? It was nice not being responsible for anything or anyone but he still felt the need to do something. He knew this was where he was most useful. He'd been a doctor for the majority of his life, it didn't feel right to just do nothing when someone needed medical attention. But did he really need a position to do that? Jacob was a doctor. Whether or not he held the position, it was just who he was. He was someone who helped other people as much as he could in what ways he knew how. That wouldn't stop because it wasn't an official title. Still, he found himself speaking up. He wasn't sure why, exactly. It was almost a force of habit, as though he were sitting with his Ma while she quizzed him. "I agree with everythin' everyone else has said. I'd like ta' add tha', dependin' on how deep it is ah' course, sometimes they may need emergency stitchin'. In an emergency situation, ya'd wanna' use a continuous stitchin' 'cause they're quick ta' put on n' do the job decently in the short term. Ya'd probably wanna' change 'em eventually though, so long as they ain't the kind the body absorbs, which are hard ta' get a hold of out 'ere anyway so they probably would be, n' make an interrupted stitch 'cause if one of the stitches breaks, ya' jus' gotta' repair that one, not the whole line. They jus' cause a lot less damage if anythin' happens. There's also a bunch ah' types for surgery ya' could use, n' I can think ah' two types in particular that would be helpful with a cut but, like the interrupted sttichin', ya'd have ta' go back n' do 'em later 'cause they take quite a bit ah' time," he explained before pausing for a moment and then adding, "I guess if it was real big n' there was a serious concern of them bleedin' out, ya' could also cauterize a wound but tha's real risky n' really shouldn' be done unless necessary. For one thing, it makes handlin' infection way more difficult n' the wound can get real bad even after the bleeding stops, though tha' might be better than them jus' bleedin' out, n' then I jus'... Ya' need a heat source ta' burn it, ya know, n' I personally don' feel confident doin' tha' ta' someone which is why I keep stitches with me." — BUT YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL LIKE I'VE NEVER SEEN "SPEECH" Re: ADVIL ADDICT — DOCTOR TRYOUTS/LESSON - rochelle - 07-14-2018 [align=center][div style="borderwidth=0px; text-align: justify; width: 550px; padding-bottom: 17px; overflow: stretch; border-bottom: 2px dashed;"]Her mother had been a healer. That's how Rochelle liked to remember her. As the pleasant Oracle and her litter of kids hanging around the medic's quarters, not as a murderous tyrant looming in the shadows. She owed her mother for the gift of teaching her about healing, for sparking her interest in the art of medicine. It was a field she was fond of ... knowing how to cure and nurture instead of hurt and kill. So it was easy for her to be beckoned by the group, ears tilted up to catch up on the discussion. "I'd say count me as interested, too ..." The wolf addressed before she settled into the group. Rochelle had never served as a Doctor, rather, she was much more experienced as a diplomat. Still, she had needed to take care of herself over the years, needed to know how to survive out in the wild, and that had expanded her knowledge on medicine, besides just the obvious curiosity for it all. "I wouldn't be adding anything that hasn't already been said, but," The dark brown wolf said firmly, "I want to emphasize cleaning out the wound before dressing it with anything. Not too familiar with the herbs you use commonly around this area, but sand would definitely be an issue, so I would prioritize that first." |
