Abandon the stars // private, Guru - vellichor - 03-20-2018 Daphne could remember it all. Their little town had been poor, yes, but any self-respecting town back then had a church. She heard that some would build towering buildings to try to reach to the heavens, for the sake of the Queen and for the sake of reaching God. She wasn't sure what she thought about all that. She wasn't sure there was a God to reach after all she'd seen and, if there was, she wasn't sure that He'd care about how tall the buildings on Earth were. She remembered the first time she'd seen one of them. It had been after she'd joined the Otherworld, outside the time of her natural lifespan and not in her own time. There had been a choir singing inside. It was some of the most beautiful music she'd ever heard. Then she looked at it's walls and saw all the gold, precious gems, and artistry. At first, she'd been in awe but very quickly anger overtook her. She had watched her family starve. She'd stolen and lied to keep them alive, always hiding from her father's watchful gaze to do so. He was a man of honor and he would've never allowed such things but it kept food on their table so she did what was necessary to protect her little brothers and sisters when the crops didn't come in. Where was the gold and silver for people like them? Still, in the music she thought she could hear love. Genuine love. Not the comforting kind that the Caretakers, such as herself, had to give to frightened children. False hopes and mirages of candy and games and fun. That music had felt real. Amongst all the gold, the most valuable thing she'd found there were those words. She still remembered the song. It was one the choir in her own church had sang before. "Ave, ave verum. Ave verum corpus Christi..." She could sing the upper part from memory. She sang to herself softly as she fluttered about, looking for any food to take back and store at camp. All the words were Latin and, at the time, she hadn't understood it. However, she'd had plenty of time to properly learn that (along with many other languages) in the Otherworld. //reference to the song she's singing + sorry if this is a bit hard to reply to, I wasn't quite sure how to start! Re: Abandon the stars // private, Guru - Guru - 03-21-2018 Soft words breached her thoughts. The caracal's glazed over eyes broke away from the ground and looked in the distance, finding Daphne singing along to a song she did not know. For a few moments, she listened without a word. Truthfully, she did not want to barge in on the song and offer her opinion, but instead await the female to finish and then reply. Guru, though, still wanted to have a conversation. Wandering up and offering a slight nod of greeting without interrupting seemed like her best option, so that's exactly what she did. With that finished, she kept to her own. For now, she sat off to the side and continued to listen to her light singing. "I wonder what language that could be," she mumbled to herself. Seeing that she only spoke English, perfecting another language would be helpful. //it's fine Re: Abandon the stars // private, Guru - Guru - 03-25-2018 bump |
