I FLEW TOO CLOSE TO THE SUN-

the heat of the sun felt so thick and heavy upon fur of dark charcoal, yet oh so pleasantly warm. their eyes were partially lidded, flooded with a sense of peace as their wings beat once, then twice, keeping them aloft in their lazy flight path. blinking as they kept themself from falling prey to the siren call of sleep, beating their wings upon finding an updraft. limbs were curled close to their form for better air flow, and that their limbs being down would cause drag. tipping their weight to one side, they would bank into a roll, a cheerful screech erupting from the blackbird hybrid's mouth as they rolled several times above the beautiful blue oceans rolling beneath them. snapping their wings shut, they allowed themself to free fall in a spiral nosedive, headed for those same beautiful waters below, so clear and so tantalizing.

it reminded sabbath of the waters of their home islands, somewhere far off, beyond where those of the beyond had charted. the clear blues made them grieve for the tall cliffs that they'd left behind with the hatchlings of their parent's latest brood, their youngest siblings' cheeps and chirps still ringing in their ears when they thought of the adorable little scraps of fur. gurgling out a trill, they would pull themself from the free fall, dark wings beating powerfully as they climbed back up into the air with a gleeful cry. it felt so good to be free, to be out and about. it had been months since they'd departed the empire that they called home, the icarian free to do as they pleased, answering a call they felt, a quest their empress had set them upon, knowing the freedom that they so instinctively craved.

they would be lying if they said that the ocean hadn't called them, the promise of a distant land calling to them, as told through stories that travellers had shared. they were enticed by this eden, this land left undiscovered by their own, and their home undiscovered by those of this land. sweeping their wings in a great downwards swoop, they returned to the highest of the sky, where they risked running out of stamina. here, they would wheel about in free glee before they spotted movement far down below as the islands of the land they traveled to, came into view. crying out in curiosity, the hybrid adjusted the tilt of their body, entering into a dive as they closed their wings and brought them to their body.

it wasn't until the ground was hurtling too closer that they'd realized they'd past a critical point in opening their wings, a squawk leaving them as they bellowed to the moving individual below them, unintentionally aimed right for the dark pelted feline, "SHIT, FUCK! WATCH OUT BELOW! BIRD INCOMING!", they screeched as they tried to spread their wings to catch the air, legs uncurling from close to their body, paws outstretched and scrambling at the air, tail lashing and windmilling as they struggled to slow themself. their efforts were well-meant but it left them sprawling after a collision with the dark colored feline, body laid up over his in a tangle of limbs and groaning.

You picked me like a flower, didn't expect the thorns! -- Ice Cream cat. Crewmate of the Typhoon.
Sorbet hadn't been expecting to be landed on today. All the feline had wanted was to just take a nice stroll on the beach and just take the time to think over things that were plaguing his mind right now. But fate seemed to love to play tricks on the poor male and when he heard the screech above him, he realized a little too late that he needed to move.

As Sorbet had been about to move his body was forced into the ground with a low groan. His ears flattened against his head as pain shot through his body briefly. His tail lashed out, potentially hitting the person who landed on him but Sorbet didn't seem to care. He tried to pull himself out from under them but he honestly couldn't figure out his limb from the other's.
