time is not your friend -- planting - Kindledflame - 04-14-2022

[font=trebuchet ms]Light filtered through the leaves, setting the grass alight in a bright blaze of gleaming dewdrops.

The fox nestled within the oak's roots, her eyes slowly wandering across the landscape. Her stomach gnawed at her, her weary limbs weighing her down. The scent she'd picked up the night before, her best chance at survival, was almost gone. Though conserving her energy rather than wasting it chasing something she was unlikely to catch had seemed like a good idea at the time... the decision might have doomed her.

She shut her eyes and laid her head against the bark.
The Shumard oaks are pretty this time of year, she could almost hear her mother's voice echoing from days long past.

Crunch.

Her eyelids fluttered open, and her saviors stood before her, the grass staining their paws a soft green.

  [font=trebuchet ms]Kindledflame had found a clearing.

She'd expected that the process of planting everything she'd brought would take some time. She'd also known that the land here might not be able to support all of the cultivars she had; that was fine, too. While she cared for them, she knew better than to develop a sentimental attachment to things, especially things as temperamental as plants.

...Well, maybe that wasn't quite true.

Setting down the last of the acorns from her basket within the clearing and gently burying it in the soil, she let out a small sigh. They'd take many years to grow, much longer than her own lifespan for sure. Still, it was better to plant them today than tomorrow, or the next day, or the next; and those who still lived in the Coalition in the future, or those who took over the land in the event that the Coalition was no more, would surely appreciate the shade of the trees that she planted now. Assuming nature allowed it, of course.

Letting a soft smile slip onto her face, Kindledflame dipped her head. "May nature deliver you everything that you need," she whispered.

  /tl;dr: Kindledflame's been planting acorns
/first half of the post is a flashback, don't worry about that part

now, the words spoken were what caught the child's attention. zuriela was out at the beach for the sunrise, so she was coming home that afternoon. she was surprised to see kindleflame seemingly talking to herself. the child was confused as she neared the older female. her eyes flicked across the area. taking notice of the disturbed soil around them both.

her eyes flicked over the area as if trying to process this. "what are you doing..?" the soft voice asked in typical curious fashion.

"speech"

BURN
BRIGHT
“This is a good spot for the acorns. Any farther north and the evergreens would’ve outcompeted them.” Perhaps this was a strange assessment, coming out of a Utahraptor’s mouth, but Ninazu had become accustomed to the strange ecosystem in the Coalition’s snowy forests.

She stepped carefully to avoid bothering the freshly-churned topsoil (as well as the two Condemned) and liked what she saw. [color=#b1fe4e]“Have you been to our greenhouse? We grow all manner of things that dislike the frigid temperatures within those warm walls, and you won’t have to worry about the carnivorous plants watching you as you watch your plants.”
