SOME VELVET MORNING :: intro + enclave settling in - The Tombs - 04-10-2022

One spring evening, what seemed like eons ago, his very life had been torn from him. On such an evening, sinister hands wrapped around all that he had loved, whisking them into the night as storms clouded his vision and slowed him, forcing him only to watch in awe and defeat. He had no say in the matter — his foolishness had cost him his family, a profound lack of insight and a distinct lapse in attention that had taken so much from him in just a breath. That day felt so long ago, so utterly ancient, yet the wounds upon Maximilian Caputo's psyche were fresh and open still, bright red, bleeding, and with a sting unlike he had ever felt before.

But he would not feel this pain again with any other thing, nor would any of his newfound comrades. He would make sure of it.

Beside him now were people he had pledged to protect, though they were quite far from family and could not possibly fill the gaping void that existed within him where his blood and kin once were. These were people with a mind like his, bonded by the worship of bravery and justice, marvelous justice. He supposed that in a way, these were his kin of some sort, though in all honestly he gazed upon them and felt no comfort from them. Perhaps it would just take a while to get used to clan life and to get to know these people that he had been traveling with. Not that he was ever particularly excited to socialize, anyway. All that mattered was that they had the same goal as him, and he was their valiant leader, destined to be their beacon of light when they needed it most. That's what it was, wasn't it?

Such a light was cast upon this territory that Max had scouted out for this roving band of his with the assistance of some members that had gone ahead and ensured that this woodland domain was unoccupied and capable of housing an entire group. The conclusion that he had come to after weeks of exploring this territory was that it was more than suitable for his clan, likely capable to withstand growth and their activities. With easy access to the water and a sprawling hilltop camp of abandoned cabins and lookout towers, this was certainly an opportunity he could not let pass so easily.

One spring morning, Maximilian and his band had entered this forested territory with hearts full of resolve, making their way up the hill and into the summer camp that awaited their arrival. Chocolate eyes, light and almost honey-like in the presence of the rising sun, glanced over at some unoccupied members carrying different colored flags: red, blue, green, yellow, and white. "Get 'em flying, nice 'nd high," he instructed them, watching them make their way to the housing clusters that held vacant flagpoles within the center of each of them. Max had planned this arrival with great depth and detail in a nearly obsessive manner, ensuring that their moving day would be as smooth as possible. The flags upon their poles, he believed, were symbols of hope and prosperity — and the fact that they had made it this far together. It was good to have a home for themselves after leading a nomadic lifestyle for so long.

On this spring morning, the flags upon their poles waved high and with a great vigor, as though to try and touch the heavens themselves.

sora had joined the group simply to provide justice. she lost everything she loved and it was her fault. she missed having her family and she found that this group wanted what she wanted. of course, she fell in line with maximilian and came with him to this forest. she was helping start their new home. he had to help them to make herself better. she wanted justice for the loss of her family and this group wanted to provide it. so, it was no surprise she followed him here. "i hope you saved some work for me. i wish to help, after all."

"Don't hog all the work, Sora." The hyena mumbled, approaching with a low head but watching eyes. His nose twitched as he watched the flags waver in the air, and he looked to Max. "But I suppose boss has already hogged all the work." He tried to be comedic, but the low tones of his voice failed him. Alex looked to said boss patiently, though his eyes were narrowed.

The distinct sounds of two voices behind him caused his ragged ear to twitch, and he turned to meet the faces of Sora and Alex — or was it Kaze? — addressing him. "Work?" he repeated. Of those who had committed their life and loyalty to the Enclave, there were a certain few that were more inclined to put the work in, the wolf and the maned hyena among them. Maximilian could respect their ethic; this was a life and cause worth fighting for. No one would succeed here without sheer dedication.

"Nah. Not now. Only task I can assign you both is to get comfortable," the Alpha continued with a sigh, though he seemed not to be exasperated nor particularly exhausted. Well, maybe a little bit tired after all that damn trekking they had done. "Zetas'll bunk over by that white flag. You wanna check out the Division cabins, go right ahead. This is home now, after all." He extended his right paw to gesture at the clusters at he spoke, a yellow bandana wrapped around his forearm that signified his position of leadership among the Enclavians. There was always work to be done, of course — they needed to make contact with other groups soon and establish their presence in the Island, but for now they needed to start simple and get acquainted with the territory before venturing off again.

nothing left to do? that was, new. blinking, she would turn to kaze and offer a sly smile. "i wouldn't dare hog the work from you." she teased back as she looked to their alpha again. "someone beat me to it this time. call it a rain check." she laughed at this before looking over at the division cabins.

turning on her heel, she would trot away a few steps only to pause. glancing back over her shoulder at them. "i'm going to go have a look. care to join me?" she offered with a nod of her head towards the cabins.

she followed behind the two others, casting her honeyed gaze over at what the alpha was doing. flying a kite, how interesting. she hadn't seen one of those before - would have been nice. she still had the world to explore after all. coming to a halt next to the alpha - the thirst for blood drove her to do brave yet increasingly stupid things. there could've been things to be done, like making sure everyone settled in alright, but he said they should go and relax so relax was what she was going to do. [color=#CC1100]"beautiful day."
came the brief comment from the soft-accented female as she let her gaze and mind wander.
