Anthemtalon was hungry. He'd been asleep for quite some time now, and when he woke up he was so very, very hungry. Not bothering to give anyone he passed so much as a glance because to Anthem, his belly came first rather than social interaction. Self perseverance came first. He was hungry, and he wasn't anywhere near where the food was typically kept. A problem, sure, but something that survival instincts could work around. While likely nobody with high sentient thought would think of it, the basic lizard was driven by instinct and a need for the particular food that he liked.

There had been a battle here. He'd slept through it, not helping as his peers died. Not much the lizard would've done had he been awake, too sluggish to fight all the fast moving opponents. Many had died on both sides, and that was what brought Anthemtalon away from camp. Buried carcasses of those that had passed, shoved out of the way. Whether they were his peers or those that had invaded, it would be fair game for the lizard. Talons hooked through slush and snow until they reached dirt, and then he dug further and further. Unearthing Typhooner and Coalitioner, one and the same, not caring about the specifics other than needing to eat.

Not even bones would be left in the lizard's wake as he shuffled around where the combatants had been buried. Just the holes of the lizard's claws and earth elementals, as he hooked his jaws around another unfortunate carcass and heaved it out of the hole to eat. A talon rested over the NPC, his head turned, teeth gripped down, and he began tearing into another meal.

"What are you up to now, you scaly bastard?" Quipped the female as she approached to Anthem creating a pretty loud grinding noise. Nose wrinkled in the smell. Gods, he was digging up... carcasses and eating them? "Ant, don't you think there's fresher food out there? No clue what a thing like you eats anyways."

Re: inspiration desperation ._. grave robbing - Romulus - 06-09-2021

The smell of rotting flesh had always rubbed Romulus the wrong way, but with his time on this damned Earth, he had grown used to it. Even so, when the first breeze passed his nose, he paused in his patrol. As the light from above beat down on his multicolored pelt, he stood frozen in place with his head raised and nose pointing upwards. Peculiar. The scent was coming from nearby. A paw slowly traversed forward. One by one, he stepped closer to the scene.

The rustling in the underbrush caused rounded ears to upturn. Only moments later did he see Inferno standing over Anthemtalon, quipping on about... eating fresher food? Turning the corner, he peaked over the girl's shoulder. His eyes focused down at the ground as the lizard grinded on, only to realize what laid before him moments later. Flesh splayed out across the floor with every crunch, maggots and bugs swarming whatever remains they could get a grip on. Dried blood stained whatever viable piece of fur the dead had. Needless to say, the sight and the smell was... well... interesting at the very least.

"Anthemtalon," he announced firmly. "Rather than eating the dead-" The rotting ones at least. "-how about we go grab something different like Inferno suggested?" Something that didn't reek of death. If he wanted to continue eating corpses, then Romulus would only suggest the pirates that died on their land out of respect.

To have the kingpin approach behind her she giggled, turning her head to the side with a grin.

Inferno's insult genuinely went over Anthemtalon's head. Vulgar language and insults didn't exactly click in his head, as most things didn't. Rotten meat still held tightly in his jaws, his head turned to the female. Head tipped back to gulp down the flesh, taking a few moments to swallow it down. "Hungry," he answered after a long moment of thought. So very, very hungry. Slow was the movement of his tail behind him, digging at another impromptu grave. How many carcasses had he practically inhaled by now? The thane sure wasn't keeping track. "Fresh not taste as good," Anthemtalon then added in, his claws digging into the current carcass he was feasting on.

Before he could take another mouthful, his attention was snagged by the new leader of the group. A grumble of greeting, the large lizard's head turning to face Romulus. He couldn't exactly differentiate between the dead that had been his peers, and the dead that had been the enemy. Short memory, or just the way that he thought that once life left the body, it was fair game. Who knew. "Tasty. Rot taste good. Waste not. Try some," the lizard rumbled, jaws snapping and tearing at carrion and pulling it over for the kingpin to try.

Aubree opened her mouth in a silent snarl as she surveyed the scene before her.  A desecration of the dead, both by digging up and eating the remains of bodies long since laid to rest.  The rotting sighthound touched one of the fleshy bits of her frame, where fur had withered away to give way to bone and gristle.  It took all she had not to leap for the lizard's stupid skull.  If it weren't so large, she would've crushed it for the mere idiocy of the thing.

Despite the creature not even leaving a scrap to re-bury, Aubree thought it rude to leave an open tomb, however half-assed it had been.  With Anthem momentarily distracted by the next piece of meat, the canine padded behind them to refill the holes it had created.  She murmured a tiny apology with each grave she covered and placed a small bit of fur on top, a marker, an offering.  She knew - better than most - how the dead felt about their resting places being disturbed.  It was only right to give a bit of one's self after trespassing.  It was only proper manners.

Manners this moronic monitor seemed to have skipped along with the brain cells while it was still in the egg.  Aubree glared at the thing as she continued her task.

Re: inspiration desperation ._. grave robbing - Romulus - 06-25-2021

The fact that Romulus was interested in the sight before him was no surprise, but how Anthemtalon responded was... Well... That wasn't the answer he expected. Head turning towards Inferno as she giggled, the kingpin's dark brows pressed together and he let out a sigh. He couldn't argue with the large lizard's preferences. As long as he didn't touch the variety of Coalitioners underneath, the newer member could enjoy all of the scraps he desired. "Then perhaps enjoy the enemies, not our own," the lion suggested bluntly.

He didn't know Anthemtalon couldn't distinguish between the two though. Even so, an offer on the table didn't hurt. His tone was lowly as the kingpin spoke. "I can bring you their remains before they're discarded in the future." After all, everyone had their own perks and niche in the Coalition of the Condemned's territory. A pile of bodies wasn't really out of the ordinary, especially in the eastern island. That did not curb his disgust though.

With the offer on the table, his eyes drifted down to the meat being offered to him. For a moment, he contemplated his options. If it wasn't for the rot and the saliva lingering on the piece Anthemtalon pulled apart, then maybe he would try. Desecrating the bodies of those he knew and lead felt... wrong. "Perhaps a different time under different circumstances," came his polite answer. A simple 'fuck no' would have sufficed too, but he did not hold his parents' temper and vivacious, colorful language.

His light gaze moved on from Anthemtalon, landing on Aubree as she filled their graves and murmured apologies to those that were now ingested. Romulus had planned to something similar. She seemed urgently bothered though. As he watched her work, her fiery glare caught his attention. Trying to lighten the mood, he cleared his throat and spoke out to her. "Thank you," he clearly remarked. Less work for him. If she needed assistance though, he would gladly do so and let her vent her frustrations.
