THE EDGE | river patrol - gael - 03-27-2021

The Ardent believed in steady work -- pleased and proud to see his call for patrols answered quickly.  Dividing between the Ashen City and the nile, more ground would be covered and their work made productive.

The vulpine made a brief detour to his home, retrieving a satchel and paints, before returning to the bottom of the 'throne' and gathering those who would be accompanying him.  With a method of marking -- including etching claws into the trees -- the Ardent padded into the jungle until he stood a cautious distance from the nile's edge.

The way was murky as he expected; more so the closer they came to the river, paws sinking into moist ground.  The canopy above still trailed droplets of water down from the most recent rain.  The faerie observed the water through analytical eyes.  Their task was a simple one in the end; simply to follow the river's path and mark visual warnings where the water was prone to rise.

"Stay clear of the edge," he reminded warily.  The entire reason for the patrols was to mark out the flooding and protect their clanmates; he would not be overly joyful if someone managed to prove their caution correct by slipping into the water.  "Mark close, but give room for error -- the water could rise higher in heavy rains."

If it weren't for the Nile seeming like it was full of, well, blood, maybe Dante would have jumped in. While he was a dumb motherfucker, he wasn't that dumb. "You really think it'll flood?" The hybrid asked as he came to stand next to Gael, his torn ear flicking as he stared down below at the rushing river. Once again, his lack of knowledge of... mostly everything was coming to fruition. It was almost like he just cared for his drugs and himself (although barely).

Oh wait.[glow=COLOR,1,400]✧*:・゚[/glow]

The vulpine's ear twitched and perked.  His thoughtful gaze remained on the water itself, but he nodded slowly as he began to speak. "Ideally, no.  The sun could evaporate the water before it raises too high or any run off from the melting snow and ice will find other low ground to settle around before reaching the river itself."  However, the faerie was no optimist.

"It is better to be cautious," he insisted, "then drowned -- or ill. There is only so much Aine, or myself, could do if everyone digested the water.  But more importantly, if the water raises past our markers, we'll know to keep an eye on the prey in this region and hunt elsewhere so that we don't kill everything off before there's time to recover." Another shortage of food was the last thing they needed.
