The ocean was quite unkind, he had found, and the rains that beat down on everything in sight almost sounded like something was chasing him. He'd lost track of his mother, if she was alive or dead would have been a question that plagued the mind of anyone else, but the child was simply too terrified of the storm and being on his own to question what the status of his mother was. He'd go out looking for her later, but in the meantime, he just wanted to not be eaten alive, supposedly, by the dark clouds above. The little man had run as far as his stupid little legs could carry him, black fur covered in sand and sprayed sea water, until it was dripping off his coat and his legs had gone from black to the dirty brown color of wet, solidified sand. Danny cared not at the moment if anyone who may have lived in the buildings up ahead would be cross with him, or more dangerous than the rolling waves that crashed threateningly at him. The wolf pup had aimed straight for tavern steps, scrambling and tripping over himself just to break inside, and then promptly hid under a table, shaking out the water from his fur to the best of his ability. Desperate breaths. The tiny wildcat felt her ears perk. Confusion flashing in pale sea-green hues. She moves quietly and easily beneath the tables, keeping gentle distance with the frightened stranger. No doubt frightened by the weather. She understood.

It grew loud in her room, above in the Sky Parlor. Too loud sometimes. The thunder cracking and rain thumping on the roof. Her senstive ears rung in pain. Even compared to the chorus of idle chatter below, it could overwhelm her. "Aloha," she murmured softly. "Are you okay?" Gentle. Indifferent of the harsh intrusion. Simply curious for now, since the wolf pup was unfamiliar to her. And frightened. No need to badger him about impoliteness. © MADI Re: [ between the devil and the deep blue sea ] - joining - daniel - 02-10-2021 [div style="width: 45%; text-align: justify; font-size: 12pt; letter-spacing: -1px; font-family: times new roman;"]♡ — Danny just about jumped out of his skin when someone spoke to him, falling over when he turned around too fast, giving off a tiny yelp when one of his back legs hit the leg of the table he was using as really bad shelter. You'd think his heart beat would be loud enough to be heard by everyone, at the very least he was convinced it was breaking his rib cage with how hard it was. "Waiting it out, the...the storm." His eyes darted between Keona and any of the shadows that seemed to move across the wall, any unexplainable sound making him flinch. It was a little too late to get out now, and way too late that he had chosen a pretty populated place to, uh, hide. His heavy breathing steadily grew to sound like a wheeze, pressed up against the edge after taking another gentle step backward until there were no more steps to take. Re: [ between the devil and the deep blue sea ] - joining - ROXANNE R. - 02-10-2021 Roxanne usually didn't mind the rain though it did tend to remind her of things that had happened the past few months, a soft sigh leaving her maw as she was heading out of her office from the ship. Her eyes half closed before they opened completely as the sight of something dark darted across the sands and over in the direction of the tavern. A frown formed on her maw as she stood there for a moment trying to figure out if her exhaustion was beginning to gnaw at her mind and make her see things. She supposed that she should investigate and make sure that it wasn't some trespassers. With a soft sigh, the captain ran through the downpour until she reached the tavern did she shake herself off from rain and when she stepped inside several of the folk there would greet her with soft mumbles or nods. Roxie only offered them a flick of her tail before spotting the person who had ran into the tavern noticing that Keona was already speaking to them. "Hello there," She spoke in a gentle voice noticing that this stranger was just a pup hiding from the storm, her gaze softened as she would inquire with a tilt of her cranium "Would you like anything to drink or eat? The tavern has great food," If he was waiting out the storm, Roxie might as well make sure that he left on a full belly. Keeping the distance. Gentle. Let Roxanne speak as she considered the youth quietly. Thinking about how to ease more of the fear. "You know, when I was really small," funny, considering she was still very tiny, "and storms were too loud for me, my da would ask if I wanted to hear a song."

"I remember them very well," she added. "Would you like to hear one? Do you think that would help?" It could be more noise, which didn't always solve the problem. So she would keep it slow. Steady. Offering him time to think. To decide. "We can find some blankets for you too; get you warm, if you like." © MADI Re: [ between the devil and the deep blue sea ] - joining - daniel - 02-11-2021 ♡ — One person became two, and that was enough to work up his anxiety even farther, at least for the first few moments before the comforting and rather patient voices bypassed the terrified state of mind that the kid was knee deep in. Make no mistake, he was still quite petrified, but at the very, very least, neither of the two strangers sounded like they were going to eat him or something. He shifted his body until he was laying down rather than half-standing, ready to bolt at any given second. Pressing his lower jaw against the floor, the wolf pup cast his eyes towards Keona and Roxanne, debating on if asking for food was polite in this situation, despite the fact the woman had offered. He thought he may have been hungry, but it could've just been the mention of food sparked the feeling, and he wasn't really hungry at all. His tail thumped against the table leg as it wagged gently. "Tavern?" So that was what this place was. A tavern. His head tilted, ears releasing themselves from his skull to flop loosely over the side aimed at the floor. He wasn't sure what, well, any of that meant, he'd never seen a tavern before after all. But Roxanne mentioned food, and he did know what that was. "I'm hungry, a little bit."
Another crack of thunder spooked him, shivering with a stressed whine. Danny nodded quickly to Keona at her suggestion, both of them, technically. "Cold." Came his simple answer to the idea of blankets, having almost forgotten his soaked fur clinging to his bones. It was a lot colder outside than inside, with the wind no longer a problem. "Songs are...nice." Re: [ between the devil and the deep blue sea ] - joining - roan ; - 02-12-2021 「 BUT NOW THESE DAYS ARE GONE, I'M NOT SO SELF ASSURED 」

It was a place that Roan came fairly often, for a couple of main reasons. The first was a casual hobby – card games. He enjoyed participating in the various games usually hosted within the tavern, and he found that he had gotten rather good at them, as well. It was nice to have something rather idle to focus his mind and paws on, rather than something life or death, like his usual work. In addition to this, he also came to the tavern for something else quite important to him – coffee. The various barkeeps of the place always seemed to have a superb way of preparing their coffee, and Roan was always eager to grab it in the morning before he returned to the temple. He hadn't been doing that much lately, however, because of the growing little children within his belly, knowing very well that coffee wouldn't help with their development. Even if he hadn't been pregnant, it seemed as though Paintbrush had caught on to his caffeine addiction, and was eager to shut it down as soon as possible – much to Roan's own chagrin.
This time, when the soothsayer had stepped within the large and comfortable building, he had simply been coming for a bit of company, and maybe a round of cards. Unfortunately, it didn't seem as though things were as peaceful as they usually were. There were several gazes leveled in the direction of a nearby table, where both his mama and Keona were, as well. Figuring it wouldn't be a good idea to just ignore it, a soft sigh left the draconic feline before he made his way over, pausing and taking in the situation at hand. An unfamiliar child in the tavern, looking for shelter, and food. With a small frown pulling at his muzzle, Roan questioned the boy softly, "...You're not hurt at all, are you? I'm a medic, so I can help if you are." The draconic feline had never really been one to provide emotional comfort, so he decided instead to just offer his services, if they were required. Of course, his lack of experience with comfort had been worrying him a lot as of late, wondering if he would be better at providing his own children with a relaxing presence.

Re: [ between the devil and the deep blue sea ] - joining - rhosmari - 02-13-2021
Storms, they head never scared him and he was the type to try and scream back at the thunder. He was too strong to be scared of wind and rain and if his knife escapade didn't say anything then maybe other things would. He was racing through the sodden terrain with a determined look on his muzzle, dripping and shivering head to toe. The kit's ears were pulled back against his skull and surely after all of this running around in the freezing rain he was surely to get a cold from it all. But right now he had a determined look on his muzzle. A goal in mind. It was just to get to the Tavern and if he could get there and not be stopped or have to turn around he would be the champion. He had fought monsters and demons way harder....in his dreams of course but still they had all been challenges. Shaking his forked tail against the ground he wiggled and jumped over a fallen tree, scrambling with tiny claws before he managed to pull himself over it and he stumbled to the other side. Sniffling a bit he tried to squint through the pouring rain and he tilted his head a bit as he vaguely understood where he was at the moment. Another flash of light herald his path and he shot like a bolt himself, dashing down the path before suddenly --SLAM. He smacked against the doors of the tavern and forced them to fling open. The mutated cat's momentum didn't stop there as he tripped over his own paws and went rolling across an open space before he smacked against a chair. ''Owowowowow...'' He mumbled to himself as he twisted his form to pull himself back up onto his paws. Wiggling a bit he realized that there were others here at the Tavern and his mother was here as well. His eyes trailed over all of them before he noticed just who had their attention (besides himself of course). ''Hey, what are you doing hiding underneath there for?'' He stepped forward before shaking himself off, which of course caused water to everywhere and crouching himself, wiggling his rear end and sticking his tongue out before he attempted to playfully scramble forward and pounce on [member=17932]danny ![/member] small teeth trying to nibble his ear. ''Get your butt out here!'' Re: [ between the devil and the deep blue sea ] - joining - daniel - 02-14-2021 Was he hurt? He didn't so, unless...Danny lifted his front paws up to his face, one at a time, shaking off the excess sand. It had scraped him up quite a bit, and looking at it immediately caused his paws to sting as if it had just been waiting patiently. He figured he could at least be tough enough to withstand that, it would heal quickly he was sure. But he still shook his paw and whimpered softly at the feeling. "Just scraped." He looked up at the medic, gasping softly with a quiet, "You have wings too." As if the large horns weren't attention grabbing enough. His gaze jumped from Roan to Roxanne, like he'd never seen anything like it before in his life. Mostly because he hadn't, not until now had he seen anything but birds have wings, and that was interesting by itself. Were there others?
And then it got much louder. The slam against the door broke his current calmer state, forcing his entire little puppy body to jump, scared enough that he looked like he could have been launched six feet into the air if there wasn't a solid surface above him. There was absolutely no time to react or say anything else before an excitable little demon had jumped on him. Danny released a rather startled bark, wiggling and flailing his paws in a feeble attempt to escape. "Don't eat! Don't eat Danny! Not food!" And the other kid was cold, too, covered in just as much rain water as he was. [glow=black,2,300]— ❤ —[/glow]
