crime and punishment / o, lost+joining - guts - 05-14-2018

He woke up feeling like his skull was about to split open.

His head throbbed and the light filtering in through the trees momentarily blinded him. Groaning, he shakes his head, which only worsens the headache. He groggily blinks, adjusting to the sun's light as he glances around, finding himself in some place he didn't recognize. His memories were blurry and he couldn't quite place how he had ended up here. Either way, he isn't too worried about that right now. He's more concerned with finding some source of water to ease his dry throat, and hopefully help with this ache.

Still, as he's getting up, he pauses. Why did he have paws all of a sudden? Last time he recalled, he was a human, not a large panther. He looks himself over, shakily standing and turning in a circle to observe this new body. He grunts as he nearly falls over, but narrowly catches himself from face-planting. The male looks over and a grin comes to his face, trotting--or more like stumbling--over to retrieve his shades, which had been discarded nearby. Checking them for scratches, he slips them up onto his nose.

It doesn't take him long to find a small stream. Attracted by the distant gurgle of water, he walks over on wobbly paws and leans down to lap at the water, his thirst instantly parched. Though, as he's drinking, memories suddenly burst back to him in full throttle.

He was Greed, the incarnation of sin, a homunculus. Or maybe he still was. He doubted animal homunculi were a thing, though. He had been killed by his own father--his creator--for failing to fulfill his mission. He had been made to serve him, and when he hadn't, he had been killed, as he was no longer useful to his father's plans. "Peh," he mumbles to himself, a sly grin unfolding on his maw. "I'll show you, old man," now, he just needed to figure out where the hell he was.

fate or finality
Lioness The Typhoon Betta tags
Sekai would never understand the feeling of being a human, having those weird lanky legs and hands and standing up so tall. Now, by nature’s standards, she was a bit larger, for a lioness. But she was not like those creatures.

The lioness hadn’t known about the feeling of the headache, though she could imagine it was awful. She had head injuries before, and knew light could hurt. But she wasn’t sure how it would’ve affected him.

The lion cub looked at the panther, blinking her sapphire blue eyes. He did not look trustworthy. But she needed to be a welcoming presence. She uneasily remarks,  “Old man? Uh... there’s some old men here. Is there one you’re looking for?” She asked, rather awkwardly.

Re: crime and punishment / o, lost+joining - CAESAR CIPHER. - 05-14-2018

”Can’t say I know any old panthers,” Caesar snorted as he made his way over, eyeing Greed up and down. Just like Sekai, he didn’t know what it was like to be human, but he did know what it was like to be in a body you weren’t used to. Unfortunately he didn’t have that ability right now, but he recalled what it felt like. He stood beside Sekai, tail tip flicking.

Greed turns at the sudden voice, having not noticed anyone approach. Grin quickly reappearing, though, he turns to the cub and shakes his head with a snort. "Nah, I'm not looking for anybody. Just..talking to myself about someone I used to know," he explains briefly. Then he decides she probably knows where they are, a local, probably. "Say, do you know where we are, by any chance?" he asks, feigned politeness in his tone.

Then someone else turns up. He glances over towards the male, but is mostly focused on the lioness, waiting to be told where he was. It would be a good thing to know, after all.

SOMEBODY SHOWED YOU ALL OF THE HORROR-
YOU WEREN'T BORN WITH IT!
[div style="background-color:#BG COLOR;width:90%; overflow: stretch;text-align: justify; font-size: 8pt;"] "The typhoon actually." Argus responded, keeping her voice light as her footsteps. As if lowering the volume with help cover the rugged edged to it. She was, again struck by the oddity of strangers seeming apparent ability to show up anywhere that wasn't the border. Thought about cutting back on the naps during the day to start actually patrolling later. She did not offer any of the before hostility she did with the pair from before. Far from trying to sleep as she was when she stumbled upon them.

But as she stops to observe, she does notice something about him that is very familiar. Maybe not him- that she has seen before. But in someone else. A voice long lost and a name just on the edge's of her grasp. It put's her on edge, not out of danger but general unease of the familiarity. Maybe she could have ignored it, she should have but she was injured still and healing- and her instincts were still shoot to hell from letting the healer anywhere close to her at all before-

She offered a calm smile. Trying to drag herself back to the presence with the thrum of the blade her her folded wings. His words the politeness in his voice was false but not unkind just... ulterior. It had her narrow her eyes slightly, the dull red flaring with a bit of brightly colored interest. A predictor sizing another. Counting sins and sizing up.

Meanwhile, Greed had no idea who this girl was. It was impossible, since just moments ago, he had been alive and kicking--or at least, as alive and kicking as someone without a physical form could be. He'd been possessing some guy's body when he had suddenly ended up here. Must have gotten kicked out finally. He had been a tough guy, he'd give him that.

"Huh? The Typhoon? W'as that?" he asks, then thinks better of it. Since all these people were showing up, this must have been some sort of group. A group of animals? These guys looked like the most unlikely rag-tag team of people he'd ever seen, honestly. But nevertheless, he just shrugs his shoulder, toothy grin remaining on his face. "Y'know what, forget I asked. Mind if I crash with you all for a while?"

He was a pretty suspicious character, but his true intentions were well-hid. They didn't show in his light violet eyes as they peered at each of the faces gathered.

SOMEBODY SHOWED YOU ALL OF THE HORROR-
YOU WEREN'T BORN WITH IT!
[div style="background-color:#BG COLOR;width:90%; overflow: stretch;text-align: justify; font-size: 8pt;"]Argus didn't need eyes or careful body language to know when someone was hiding something. Not when she had lived a previous life doing nothing but exploiting those with it. Weeding out clever people who would see to catch on to her own horrendous nature with careful steady paws. Even trying to forget that- trying to move on some parts of it stayed. Some parts were hard to disguise and it was only up to her to try and repress something institutional as second hand suspicion.

No, the fault was mostly argus'. Her own paranoid nature was quick and mostly the first response, and she was not about to go blame it on her injuries, but sometimes it was hard to curb first impulses. As greed spoke up she felt her own slight embarrassment let her expression falter, something far more warm settling onto her expression as she greeted the other. Hopefully he wouldn't hold it against her- too much.

" Welcome home then." As much as argus ribbed the rest of her clan mates she expected the same from them. Careful teasing that was unfit into the current conversation. "Name's Argus, you need a tour of the place?"

SO NOTORIOUS !
CAESAR CIPHER. MALE. THE TYPHOON. CREW MATE.
Caesar, admittedly, wasn't very well at hiding things, nor could he really spot any signs of one. It's probably why his plan was discovered the first time, and he was immediately shut down. Luckily, however, being exiled was the perfect opportunity to not be under watchful eye, and his plan succeeded.

Caesar briefly looked at Argus as she came over, before returning his gaze to Greed. "I'm answering your question anyway: we're a group. Of pirates, to be more exact." Though they didn't really look much like pirates, did they?He was, honestly, going to try to deny Greed a place to stay (he didn't exactly know he wasn't allowed to do that), but Argus beat him to the punch. Clearly dissatisfied with her answer, Caesar grunted, "Yeah, welcome, I guess. Name's Caesar Cipher."

Re: crime and punishment / o, lost+joining - Verdigris - 05-15-2018

[font=trebuchet ms]Papercutter thought himself skilled enough at hiding his intentions whenever it proved necessary. It wasn't as necessary in a place like this, where cunning and ruthlessness were not only accepted but highly valued, but even then, it was helpful to be able to maintain the appearance of an ordinary individual with no secret ambitions or desires. Were he someday called upon to be a spy, he'd be ready to put on whatever facades necessary.

This individual, while suspicious, was no more so than most of the other creatures that the Typhoon had taken in; some were forthright in their creepy demeanor, others were clearly more than met the eye, but all of them were the kind of people who would never fit in elsewhere. As such, they had no one left but each other, and that was all the better for them. "I'm Papercutter," the jackal spoke up as he approached, focusing his narrowed eyes on the panther. Come to think of it, he didn't think the newcomer had given their name yet. "Don't suppose you'd mind introducing yourself?"

Re: crime and punishment / o, lost+joining - guts - 05-15-2018

Greed cocks his head at the mention of pirates. These guys, pirates? It was laughable. But of course, he didn't know them much at all. Maybe they were a lot tougher than they let on. If that was the case, then they were doing a damn good job of hiding their skills. "Pirates, huh?" he echoed, pursing his lips. He couldn't wait to see their ship, then, if they even had one. But they did say they were pirates, after all.

At the mention of introducing himself, he nods, his eyes flashing. "How rude of me. My name is Greed," he didn't see any reason to go by a fake name. They probably didn't know who he was, anyways. He definitely didn't know any of them. "But yeah, a tour would be much appreciated," he could have blindly wandered around, but he'd prefer to actually know where he was going. Besides, he didn't want to get lost in this mess of trees and plants.
