tiguar . young . he/him demigod of the deep //brain said human au machine go brrr These days, Deniz's life was in constant turmoil. In the span of a week, he got his brother back and lost him once again, rendering him the last child from his batch. Now it was just him and the little ones. Before he could cope or process, fate had thrown another knife into his heart like it was a sport. Sam, his own mother, was gone. He had to stand there and watch as her other mother broke and keep himself whole so he could care for his family. Every moment since then had been fake smiles and reassurances, carrying for his mourning family. Many nights were sleepless ones as he watched over his loved ones, terrified that he would loose another if he slept. Last night has been the first night he had properly slept, after his body truly gave up on him and knocked him out. For the first time since he lost Sam, he almost felt well rested. He needed some space to process and think, where he didn't have to plaster on a fake smile and pretend he was falling apart. It was still early morning when he found himself on the beach, staring out across the crisp blue waters. He began slowly, simple stretches where the water mimiced his movements. While he was nowhere near a master, he had quickly speedrun gaining his skills after his very long excursion under the waters. His current motions her simple, filled with fluid sweeping motions with his hands as streams of water crossed back forth before him, tracing the paths his hands made. Inhale through the nose. Exhale through the mouth.

Behind a tiny alcove sheltered by a formation of mossy rocks, Paola stands as still as a statue, facing the endless horizon, breathing slowly and straightening her posture. The flame coils hot in her gut, a controlled burn keeping it contained, and she reaches deep into it with one last breath, grasping the element carefully but firmly. Inhale through the nose. Exhale through the mouth. Paola starts her movement, widening the stance of her feet and pulling her fists to her side, angling her forearms parallel to the ground. With a controlled breath, she sends one fist forward, quickly followed by another, sending bursts of fire into the open air. She leans on one foot and sends the other around her, spiralling before kicking high and sending another stream of fire billowing into the wind. She follows the movement with a leap, clasping both palms together with her index and middle fingers extended, the rest curled, bringing her hands down overhead in a sharp, chopping motion and attempting to send a blade of fire crashing down into the ocean—until she hears the sound of another person close by. Her head moves to the source, obscured by a thick layer of rock, and the distraction is enough to cause the fire to fizzle out, leaving her with nothing to cushion the fall. ”SHIT!” Paola lands face first into the sand with a shriek, her body following soon after and thumping uselessly against the ground. She groans, sitting up and checking the bridge of her nose before sighing, relieved that it isn’t broken. Paola gets back on her feet, dusting the sand from her loose pants and collecting the discarded pair of flip-flops. She begins to set off, figuring that her training is over for the morning, but curiosity gets the best of her and she quickly pokes her head out from behind the formation of rocks, peering with narrowed eyes at the stranger on the other side… who happens to be waterbending. The teenager watches for a few seconds, absolutely perplexed, before one particular set of hand movements catches her attention. Paola looks down at her own free hand, flexing her fingers, and then turns and aims it at the water, mimicking his gesture. She knows she can control water—she’s done it once before (accidentally, sure, but that still means that she can)—but nothing happens when she sweeps her hand save for a very tiny ripple that’s immediately lost in a wave. ”Do I really want to do this?” The murmured question gets an answer before she can even take her next breath. Paola marches past the obstruction and makes a beeline straight towards the other, discarding her flipflops a second time as she goes. She only stops to self-consciously run a hand through her curly black hair, shaking it to ensure there aren’t any lingering grains of sand sticking to her head, and when she thinks she’s presentable, she finally crosses the last of the distance between them in a jog, waving kindly at Deniz in greeting. ”Hey! Hey, aren’t you Geo’s friend?” ooc. me: haha i rarely have muse nowadays also me, vibrating in place: HUMAN AU HUMAN AU TIME TO WRITE 473847364737 WORDS 10 MOONS BETA TYPHOON SHE/HER © AUDACITY

BABY'S GOT A FACE LIKE THUNDER: Re: what do i stand for | paola | most nights i dont know - Seakit Roux. - 08-26-2020

tiguar . young . he/him demigod of the deep As Deniz finished his stretches, he lifted is arms and clasped his hands, moving them down slowly but strongly. As his hands went down, he let out a strong breath. Finding himself calmed and in control, he pushed his hands outwards, moving them up slowly in a massive curve, his muscles flexing as he controlled the waves. The wave before him rose in tune with his movements and, with a swift downward motion, he sent it back where it came from, slamming into the ocean. As he was about to repeat the exercise, he heard a shout from the other side of the rock. He stilled for a moment, listening for anymore sounds of distress. Maybe he should go check on them? They could be hurt. But, if he was being honest, that had sounded more like a shout of frustration. He'd seen some of the bursts of fire slapping against the ocean so, someone must have been practicing their fire bending. Deciding to go back to his exercises, he didn't hear the girl approach until she spoke. Allowing his collected water to drop, he turned and greeted Paola with a grin. "Howdy!" he called out, waving back. "Dunno if Geo considers me a friend but I consider her one!" he replies with an amused chuckle, reaching a hand out as the proximity grew close. "Nice too meetcha! I'm Deniz Roux, son of the captain!" he introduced, hoping she would shake his hand and not leave him hanging. "Deniz—right, that's your name!" Paola meets his gesture and clasps his hand in hers, giving it an enthusiastic shake. "It's a pleasure to meetcha. Paola Vasquez, resident idiot and daughter of none," she introduces with a wide smile, finally releasing his hand and letting them fall to her sides, although her fingers continue to clench and unclench in excitement. For a while, the teenager considers what she can say to hopefully convince the son of the captain to train a meager troublemaker like her in the art of waterbending, but she quickly enough decides that she should just go for it.

"So I saw you waterbending, which, I thought was pretty cool and you could already do so much, so, like—" Nervously, Paola runs her fingers through her curled hair, tugging softly at the shorter locks at the back of her head as a way to urge herself on. "Can you teach me how you do what you do? Because firebending is easy, you just take all that energy and just let it go, but waterbending?" To demonstrate, Paola does the same motion she had mimicked before, sweeping her hand through the air, but the water before them offers no cooperation. A globule collects an inch above the water, entirely unsteady and quickly losing shape, but it lasts only seconds before crashing back into the sea. "It's been kicking my ass. I wanna... do what Geo does and, I mean, I don't wanna accidentally burn h—anyone during a spar, you know, and fire does that." She doesn't notice that her ears have gone subtly red; instead, she barrells on, trying to be as convincing as possible. "Can you teach me? Pretty please?" 10 MOONS BETA TYPHOON SHE/HER © AUDACITY

BABY'S GOT A FACE LIKE THUNDER: Re: what do i stand for | paola | most nights i dont know - Seakit Roux. - 09-10-2020

tiguar . young . he/him demigod of the deep Deniz couldn't help but chuckle at the other's enthusiasm, finding her grin infectious. Deciding that he would definitely want to keep her around as a friend already, he committed her name to memory. As she began to chatter on, he listened with an awkward amused expression, nodding along. She wanted him to teach her? His brows furrowed and he cocked his head to the side. Everything he knew was self-taught and from essentially living under the water for... awhile. "I'll be honest with ya, Paola, I taught myself what I know so I don't really know exactly how to teach you." He gave her a sheepish smile. Realize that sounded more like a no, he held up his hands in a 'wait' motion. "I'm willin'! I'm just warning you!" He nodded, seemingly satisfied with himself. He nodded along to her comment about fire, understanding. That is all fire was, is pure energy. Controlling water, especially the sea, was different. "that's the thing, right? You can't control the water, you have to ask it. Fire needs to be created, right? It comes from energy." he paused, unsure if he was just spouting nonsense or not. "Be it lightning striking a tree or flint against steel, it has to be created. Water? Look at the ocean. When we stand and do nothing, it continues to move, to rise and fall." He turned to face the ocean, looking out upon its great scape. "When you control fire, you don't need a source, correct?" He honestly wasn't sure on this, he hadn't seen many fire benders outside of occasionally Paola from afar. She never seemed to have a source, though. "Water isn't like that." He lifted a hand from his side, making a scooping motion with his hand. As he did so, a small bulb of water lifted from the water. "My hand guides the uh, my hand guides the water right?" To show as such, he brought the lifted hand between them, the ever-moving water ball between them. |
