THATS A VERY LARGE CAT | Joining, open - Luciferr - 07-20-2020

it had been awhile to find anywhere that seemed idle and not quite so aggressive - or pending into wars.

And well he didn’t want to stay home where his parents had died and the more aggressive kinds started to fill out the space the former monarchs had left even if their princeling still lived - well for all that they were monarchs, they were after all the biggest and baddest there at the time.

So Nameless had wandered on,

He hadn’t even earned his name yet before everything he Knew crashed down around him, eventually his numb flight had taken him to somewhere new and strange - swimming into open waters was suicide he’d known but at the time, there hadn’t been much choice and well he’d reasoned - it might be a kinder softer end than what the savages had Planned,

But it seemed that was not what he’d find, no instead he’d found land and strangers,

He’d watched them from afar, concealed below the waters, with curiosity - these tiny creatures with their rituals and sense of community, of a connected family that well,

It was peaceful,

He wanted that kind of peace, liked this talk of warrior cods and names that had meaning to teh individual that felt like his lost home now

which was probably why he found himself slowly making his way from the waters to the shoreline near the ridges, slowly to not alarm them,

They were all so small and he was so big next to them, he didn’t, he didn’t want to frighten them! But that was hard to do and he looked nothing like them or the cousin creatures like them,

How would he even go about trying to join them? Nameless thought - he ran through scenarios

‘Hello! I’m nameless, I would like to join you small furry creatures?”

His taloned hands clicked together in nervous habit, oh this was stupid, they probably wouldn’t even come out to see him - they’d think him some monster like the savages - I mean just look at him, he didn’t have any fur, any whiskers or soft fluffy tail, he was an utterly foreign beast to them,

By all right he shouldn’t even be here,

Maybe, maybe he should just go...

Nameless dithered, unsure, tail still dragging in the water behind him.

SAN + SUN + VIX

Vixenvenom's name wasn't just because she could be a toxic fox of a cat. No, she was good at hunting. Reptiles, especially. The way the meat tasted was her favorite. And perhaps the satisfaction of her fangs, her claws, digging through tough scales and making the satisfaction highly worth the risk. Snakes were the best reaction to bring back into camp. Vipers, sand snakes- everyone boggled their eyes at her. However, since the hurricane, it was hard to find them.

So, here she was, searching for a hint of them. Slinking over the dunes, her eyes lowered to the ground, body creeping. And Starclan above, she wished she kept her eyes on the ground. She blinked at the figure in the waves, and her ears swiveled, staring at the.. what was that? Even the typically steady warrior kept her shoulders stiffened, arcing her back slowly. And, slowly, Vixenvenom approached. She didn't say anything at first, stalking towards the sand, her eyes wide, pupils narrowed. "What.. are you?"

The world beyond the forest was largely an unknown to Rhinestonestar, as well as the majority of those that had lived within Palmclan for their entire lives. After all, why would they go out and brave dangerous wilds, when they had everything they could ever need along their little sandy beach? There had been some talk of venturing out after the hurricane had hit, mainly by young, rambunctious warriors that believed that they knew better than anyone else. They had claimed that it was ridiculous, returning to their own camp when it had become clear a disaster like the hurricane could wipe them out in an instant. However, Rhine had been quick to step in, despite his only youth, and the worries that swirled in his head over his new position as leader. He had no interest in endangering his clan – his family – by embarking on some ill-conceived quest to see the rest of the island that they lived on. Not only would it go against what had been taught to them since their very founding, but it could've eradicated them completely. These days he occasionally wondered if he had made the right decision, but he liked to believe he had. He was unsure of many things, but he wasn't unsure about keeping everyone safe.

Which was why, when the leader caught sight of the staggering beast before him, standing in the water, he could feel his breath hitch. He had thought that they'd be safe, and unbothered, provided that they just remained where they were. However, it seemed as though the times were changing, whether or not he – or anybody else – liked it or not. When he noticed Vixenvenom approaching the creature, he finally seemed to break from his frozen state, his heart speeding up with fear. What was she doing, just walking straight up to such a thing? Truth be told, he hadn't really had a better plan in mind for dealing with the nameless male lingering on the edge of their sea, but he still felt incredulous, quickly padding up beside Vixen. He could see his own confusion and curiosity reflected in her wide gaze, and he offered her an unsteady nod before turning his head back to the beast. Rhine was forced to lift his chin slightly just so that he could meet the nameless one's gaze, making a concerted effort to keep his voice calm as he spoke, "Hello... hello there. You're on Palmclan territory." He didn't feel very intimidating while he spoke, nor did he feel particularly confident that the creature couldn't just crush them both. Despite this, he finished a bit lamely, "Could we know... your name, perhaps?" Would it even have a name? Could he even speak?

[align=center][div style="font-family: arial; font-size: 11px; width: 60%; text-align: justify; line-height:120%"]Beneath the veil of past storm change had been wrought upon landscape once familiar, a place of tranquillity and peace, family bound not by the thin rivers of blood but the brine of ocean waves. Nothing may be considered as it had once been, dark the shade that spread along the stretch of gathered grains, base the semblance of casual familiarity sought. Well underway the efforts that sought to repair, replace what had been lost, to the efforts all expected to contribute.

Apparent even as the days wore on that he held no such desire to waste what little energy he had grown capable of gathering, a lost soul out at sea simply allowing the waves to do as it pleased with him. Even as sleep grew to become a rare commodity long the hours he spent within the underground caverns, a network of tunnels and chambers offering brief respite. Yet such inaction grew lonesome, dragged along his chest until it ached with a pulsing heat. Within the mouth of the tunnel he stood for a moment, watched the aimless wandering of youth, the more purposeful strides of remaining warriors, a tentative peace claimed where it was able.

Sick had he grown of it all, about his visage bore the twisted frame of a scowl as his tread grew quick, uncaring of the few that called to him wanting assistance he refused to offer. Solitary his aimless wandering along the shoreline, or, at the least, expected had been such. Interrupted his progress as voices arose, familiar both yet of a tone that drew curiosity. Slowly did the apprentice come to approach, lacking the supposed concern the elder pair conveyed.

"By Starclan! Your so big and cool and and…. Fuck…" Into silence trailed his words, head craned back as he skipped closer, star struck as he looked upon the revived portion of long forgotten history.

well it seemed he wouldn’t have to wait long! Already one of the small ones had sighted him - and actually approached! So this was progress yes? Although they were every hesitant which Nameless could respect, he was a much larger predator after all.

Good thing he preferred fish above tiny cats! Although probably shouldn’t say that - even implying might make them nervous! And that wouldn’t help with matters at all

Nameless would Ave gone for the approximation of a small smile if he didn’t think his teeth wouldn’t disturb the small one so he settled for simply answering in his most harmless trance manageable for one his size ”I am a Spinebacked sharptooth, small one or at least that’s what they’d always been called, self explanatory to the max

He would have gone on to speak more but then more small ones appeared - one was even smaller! A tiny hatchling! And seemed to be less wary and of Nameless and more curious - so defiantly a small one hatchling, for all hatchlings shared that same fearless curiosity of things that were probably what parents would forbid them from doing, seizing or interacting with - he should know, his had warned him about many things many times,

He missed them,

Nameless pushed the thought away because the small ones were speaking - asking questions - and it would be rude to not answer - especially if he was going to make a good impression.

”Palmclan? So that’s your nests name! I had wondered” he’d heard them mention clan before but had lacked the fore name - and then realised he’d been asked for..a name, oh dear well this might be awkward

”I um, I don’t have a name? At least not yet - I would have! But well, unfortunate things happened before I could get one, so I am. Just Nameless now” they got their names based on what attributes they best ascribed or a most significant feature after all - from what he’d spied, the small ones - ah clan cats - were much the same!

Of course then the small hatchling exclaimed loudly over how large he was and the spines lizard chuckled, eyes screwed up with a grin ”thank you little hatchling!” he’d never been called cool before! - and what was this starclan? That sounded cool to him

And then he remembered what he should be asking - but well he’d got caught up in the excitement of actually talking to these small ones, he hadn’t talked to anyone in ages after all! - so he carefully broached the topic as best he could

”ah but I came forward to well ask, if I could - well if I could, maybe, join your clan? I know I’m not exactly what you’d want - I don’t have fur for one thing and I’m clearly not small enough or know anything about you, but I promise I’ll learn!” if a dinosaur could somehow pull off the pleading kitten eyes look, he’d be somehow managing it - aside from how he seemed to almost awkwardly shuffle in place.

Well this was certainly... new. Rhinestonestar found himself snorting softly when Coconutpaw approach, somewhat satisfied by the shock present on the younger feline's face. The apprentice was so well known for being a pain that it was hard not to be satisfied when he was speechless, if only for a moment. Unfortunately, it didn't last long, as soon the male was making it clear just how much he appreciated the appearance of the beast. Sighing, Rhine said with flattened ears as he looked towards Coco, "Language, Coconutpaw." He doubted the boy would listen, given his prior history of not respecting the red flecked feline's authority in the slightest, but Rhinestone could at least try, right? It felt a bit silly to be lecturing the boy for language when the nameless reptile was standing in front of them with such unmatched power, but... it didn't seem as though he had come to hurt them. Rhine had to say that he was pretty damn surprised by that fact, but also grateful for it. After all, what were they to do if such a creature decided to attack them?

Wiping that unpleasant thought from his mind, Rhinestone listened intently to what the nameless being had to say, a slight frown coming to his face when Nameless confirmed that he... well, was, in fact, nameless. It seemed a sad existence, to be out there without a name to call your own. After all, even the youngest of those in Palmclan had a name to claim as their own, and that name evolved with them. To not have that sense of ceremony that so many of them enjoyed – and some took advantage of? It seemed baffling. Still, the feline nodded his head, his words coming out in a soft mutter as he sat in the sand, tail curling around his paws, "I... hm. That's strange. We'll need something to call you, but I guess that can come later..." Nameless hadn't even yet expressed his intention to join, and yet Rhine was still planning ahead. What was he supposed to do? Just assume that Nameless would grow bored and wander off? No, he had to assume that the reptile would be around for a while, and that meant a name.

Rhinestonestar's thoughts had already begun to drift off to potential names, when, as if on cue, Stormspine expressed his interest in joining. Truth be told, Rhine wasn't exactly sure about it. After all, they had only ever consisted of cats throughout their entire history, and this would be... a pretty massive shift from that. On the other paw, what was he supposed to do? Just tell Nameless no? The other didn't seem prone to violence, but Rhine certainly wasn't gonna take that chance, especially after the hurricane had already wiped so many of them out. Sighing, he nodded his head, sparing a glance towards Vixenvenom and Coco before he spoke, "I... I suppose that would be alright, provided you'd be willing to respect our ways, and learn from us. You aren't a feline, but... I suppose there's nothing truly making us say no." Tradition was something to consider, but he didn't specifically remember a rule from Starclan telling them that Palmclan could only have cats. Then again, he had never had a great relationship with Starclan, either.

Re: THATS A VERY LARGE CAT | Joining, open - Luciferr - 07-26-2020

the spinosaurus waited in something close to anxious shuffling as the little ones leader deliberated in his decision - hopefully he’d made a good enough argument! And it seemed like he wasn’t reacting straight for running him away (or trying to in the small ones case, but he’d leave quietly if they wished! If a tad sadly)

Of course then the lead small one - and he really should ask for their names, even if nameless didn’t have one to give except that he wasn’t named - spoke up about names coming later and the young spino felt hope lift his shoulders.

And then finally the leader seemed to come to a decision and the one nameless had hoped for! The spined one grinned, oh he had a home now! And nodded ”of course sir! I promise! - oh, I didn’t catch any of your names? Except the small hatchling’s that you mentioned” coconutpaw wasn’t it? Ah he had one name at least!

Looking around though he did muse quietly ”if there’s not room in your nest small leader, I’ll happily make due outside it! Ah, I might help ward away any unwanted intruders at least” not many things might enter their nest (clan camp he’d come after to learn) when a spinosaur was essentially a guard dog.

Rhinestone felt a sense of relief flood him at the nameless reptile's delighted reaction, even though he was fairly sure it was a result of the answer that he had given. Going off of Nameless's behavior so far, the rusty colored feline believed that the dinosaur wouldn't truly end up going on a rampage if he had been rejected from the group, but it was better to be safe, rather than sorry. When the spinosaurus asked for their names, Rhine was initially hesitant, although he wasn't truly sure why. Yes, he had never given his name to anyone outside of Palmclan before, but the nameless male was now one of them, so it should've been fine... right? Taking a deep breath inward, Rhinestonestar pushed past his anxiety, giving the dinosaur a toothy smile before he spoke, "My name is Rhinestonestar, and I'm the leader of the clan. I'll be happy to... help you get adjusted to clan life. I'll also let the others introduce themselves..."

He glanced briefly back at the others who were present, before his ears flicked to attention as Nameless spoke again. When he did, Rhine found himself confused. If the reptile couldn't fit in his nest? Rhinestone might not have been an expert in the sciences, but he was smart enough to know that there was no way such a creature could fit into his hollow beneath the high rock. However, after an additional moment, the male came to a realization – Nameless was talking about the camp itself. Of course such a thing was tiny enough to be considered a nest to him. Feeling a bit sheepish, Rhinestonestar found himself hastily nodding, "Ah, yes, somewhere to stay... you might be a bit big for our camp. But that doesn't mean you can't stay nearby, like you said. Although that might be a little risky, considering the beach can get pretty damp on bad storm days." The tom found himself tapping a paw against his chin thoughtfully, trying to figure out a compromise that wouldn't leave the nameless dinosaur soaked.
