[ UNFORTUNATE MEETING ¦ intro ] - Grimm - 07-19-2020 [align=center][div style="font-family: arial; font-size: 11px; width: 60%; text-align: justify; line-height:120%"]Constant hush, a lulling call framed in the turbulent peaks of foam laced waves. He knew both the danger and the beauty found in depths illuminated by the waning light of departing afternoon, had tended a fond affection. Yet broken had it been, left to drift upon the tide as the waves had been thrown into a dark frenzy, a storm wrought upon sea and sky alike. Lacking even the strict order of worried superiors to not approach until such a time they may be sure the period of storms had passed he would not have approached, hate a cruel shade against his heart. From him had they been taken beneath the raging winds and whipped waves, a monster given teeth of salt water and the hollow cry of a hurricane. Loose the grains upon which he tread, familiar even as it felt oddly alien, sticking to the sensitive flesh between his toes. The transition was expected, receding the high tide and within its wake left the dark hue of wet sand, a thick slurry of particles that lodged between fine hairs. Discomfort twisted about his lips, for a few futile moments an attempt to remove the offence performed. Heavy the sigh he uttered when it was but a waste, necessary the reclamation to the sensation. Slow the pace he took, walking parallel to the wide expanse of water, at times halting as the tide rose about his ankles. Cool was it, a contrast to the sweltering heat the humid air held as on dragged summer as though reluctant to depart with the coming night, a sensation pleasant if annoying during the first few times. Premature the conclusion of his wandering, however, the hard and chilled surface of what was believed at first a stone drawing his eye. "Stupid crab," the words fell, unbidden, from his tongue as realisation arose, the sand smeared shell hued in a bright crimson. Once more did paw come within close proximity to the partially buried crustation but his intended kick to dislodge it was disrupted, firm the hold of a claw that clamped down even as the owner was lifted into the air. Into his tongue did teeth bury, muffled his scream as about was pinched paw shaken, futile his hope to dislodge the rather displeased crab for it seemed intent on staying as long as it was capable. The sea was somewhere Sanguine was comfortable alone. No constant bickering with Sunpaw- because he was getting lazy. A curse left her muzzle thinking about it. Really? All he could complain about is that he hadn't had fish in the longest time? "I don't want to have to fish for him." She muttered to herself. Hell, the Clan came first anyways, so he could get to the freshkill pile himself. He did yell at her, after all, that- Forget it, Sanguine. Her head shook as she continued to pad over the dunes, heading towards the water. But what she saw instead was Coconut. A grin crooked on her muzzle, the tiny feline picking up the pace to run closer. She couldn't help it- it looked funny, the typical 'got caught by a crab'. "Just dangle it in the air! It'll let go!" She called out as she bound over. As she came close enough, she drew to a stop, padding in front of Coconut with a concerned look in her eyes, but a grin on her muzzle, trying to contain her fit of laughter. Rhinestone had been living within Palmclan for the entirety of his life, from the moment that his mother had gently licked his fur and named him, to now, fumbling his way through sudden leadership. As such, he had become used to the various hazards that plagued the group and its members, such as the constant sand that stuck to their fur, and the usual dangers that were presented with a wide, open beach. Anything could wash up from the sea, including sharp objects that could cut open the paws of unsuspecting apprentices. Just the thought of it was enough to make the red flecked male wince, wishing he could somehow keep an eye on the entirety of the group 24/7. It seemed as though only Starclan had the pleasure of doing such a thing, however. Even in all of his moons as a member of Palmclan, the male had never actually had an encounter with a crab before. He had occasionally noticed them in the freshkill pile, caught by rather proud hunters that boasted about how they hadn't been caught by searching claws, but as for himself? He preferred to give them a pretty wide berth.Unfortunately, he was fairly sure he wouldn't come off as a very good leader if he just ignored an obvious apprentice in pain, even if Coconutpaw was making a valiant effort to hide it as he shook the unwelcome passenger. Quickly jogging his way over to beside Sanguinepaw, Rhine let himself hesitate for a moment before he spoke, claws curling anxiously against the sand beneath him, "Y... Yeah, do what Sanguinepaw said. It should just fall... I think. If not, I mean... I guess maybe we could pull it off? I think that might be pretty painful, though." He found himself coming up blank as he tried to remember what his mentor had taught him about dealing with crabs. He was sure that it was part of his training when dealing with aquatic prey, but he just couldn't seem to think of what someone was supposed to do in this situation. Had his mentor avoided crabs as well, and he had just never noticed? That would certainly explain a few things about the amount of crustacean in his diet. |
