TELL ME DO YOU HATE ME && leroy - safflower - 05-26-2020

his last few arrivals to the marsh had been rather eventful. his first time seeing one of the inhabitants, meeting them and getting to know the land and law a bit more. it was a bit different than what he had expected when he had first seen the area. his mind had wandered to some weird country hicks or mannerless creatures that rolled in the muck for fun. it was to his surprise he had met someone with actual intelligence. alaric had been the name he remembered, but after that he hadn't seen anyone else after his next series of visits.

safflower mainly kept out of reach for others to see him, teasing in living his tracks behind for them to find before getting to him. it was like a game of cat and mouse, willing himself as the prey and snickering as they missed him by the whiskers.

he was here for another game of just that, taking his sweet time as he meandered around the thick roots curled over themselves, jumping from one to the other. just like the first time he had visited, he hadn't watched carefully enough where he placed his paws. though instead of sustaining any real injury, it was a trap.

his paws landed perfectly within a net covered my sticky moss and twigs. the net had triggered to lift the cat high up into the tree, keeping him a good dangerous height should he fall from it. the blue tabby huffed in frustration, reaching toward the tree the net was connected to in attempts to manipulate it, but his powers were not yet strong enough to control the sheer size of the tree. he squirmed and grumbled a few profanities as he resorted to gnawing on the ropes in vain for something to give way.

The unmistakable whip-crack! of the territory's net traps generally signified one of two things: an unwary joiner, or a fabulously stupid trespasser. For the most part, functioning members of Tanglewood understood the region well enough to avoid such traps, and if it wasn't a minimal amount of cognizance that was saving their asses from the detainment devices, it was the plethora of symbols etched into the surrounding trees that indicated nearby traps.

Of course, though, there were always exceptions. An example of an extreme case would be poor Delilah Evergarden, who stepped in a bear trap, and required that her leg be amputated by none other than Leroy himself. Luckily for her, the male was fruitfully experienced in the art of limb removal, and got the job done without any missteps. In fact, the Limb-Remover in this scenario was so proud of his handiwork from that day, he still had that girl's leg sitting in an icebox somewhere. Thankfully, a hefty chunk of those bear traps had been disabled since then, mostly eliminating the random threat of losing a leg.

But yes, a trap was set off in the distance, and presumably being the closest individual, Leroy departed to the mechanism's location. He arrived to find a feline hoisted high in the air, cussing and wriggling around in a feeble attempt to free himself. This person wasn't one he'd met yet, though he reeked of the beautiful Tanglewood stench. Must've been a newcomer, then, if getting stuck in that manner came as an effortless feat. "How's it hangin' up there?" he asks, admiring the predicament this fellow had gotten himself into. "I'd help ya out if I could, but I can't fly or nothin' like that. But I'll try to catch ya, if ya can skew yourself free!"
