STARS WERE MADE FOR FALLING / meteor shower - bubblegum - 05-04-2020

[align=center]
While perhaps not the rarest occurrence in the world, to stay out and watch the small rocks that invade their world's atmosphere, to watch them generally burn up where they are before they could even touch the ground, there was something special about it.

Early in the dawn, their captain out and off on her entrance ritual, the sights would begin. It starts out slow, small bursts of light in the deep blue-colored sky, hints of the sun just beginning to rise in the east. Then, a small show would start, more being found the more others may look for them, and it would continue until the sky turned pink. For any just waking up, or troubled from no sleep, the small lights dancing in the sky provide a distraction in the early morning air.

//this tread will end with the large meteor hitting the island, and the aftermath of that will occur in a separate thread i'll be sure to link!

Re: STARS WERE MADE FOR FALLING / meteor shower - GAMELIA B . - 05-04-2020

//OOC

Following the events on the beach late at night, an indescribable sort of bond had formed between Gamelia and Diya. Mutual understanding, perhaps? Every now and then, when the feline showed up on her doorstep in the late of night, the candied reptile let her in and let her spend the night on the couch. After the first couple of times, she began to set up the couch in preparation for her recurring visitor.

Tonight had been another one of those nights which, as of late, had been occurring more and more frequently. Gamelia's rest had been peaceful, but she woke up just before the sun did. Blinking sleep away, the dragon lifted her head and squinted at the closed curtains nearby. It was still dark out, but her clock told her sunrise was only minutes away.

Peeling herself off her bedsheets, sugary claws clicked on the wooden floor as she moved to nudge the fabric aside in favor of peering outside. A streak of light crossed the sky, which brought a smile to her face. How lucky to spot one! The next one that fell, however, had her staring in wonder. Then there was a third. A meteor shower! Oh, how exciting!

Eagerly (but quietly) opening her bedroom door, she tiptoed down the hall and out to the living room where Diya slept on the couch. Stopping at her side, she gently nudged her snowy form. "Diya," she whispered excitedly. "Diya, wake up! Come outside!" They had to hurry or they would miss it!

To give me some diagnosis of why I'm so hollow
Please give me instructions, I promise I'll follow

Quietly, one foot in front of the other. Don't trip, watch where you're going. Keep your balance with your tail. Keep your eyes on your target and keep as low to the ground as possible. These were tips she'd heard in passing and was doing her best to follow. Was her hunter's crouch lopsided as hell? Yes, yes it was. But was she able to stay mostly silent and stealthy? Yeah, kinda.

As she crept up to her sister, the white kitten would smile to herself. She launched herself at the other kitten with a 'roar, though it was more like a fierce mew, aiming to land on top of her sister and topple over the other kitten. "Hi Cece!"

Her sister rolled over, laughing and batting at Diya. "Diya, wake up! Come outside!" Huh? They were outside.

As Diya awoke, she would bat at Gamelia's face with a paw. "Where's the darn snooze button," she slurs tiredly, rolling out of her blankets and off of the couch, head butting the dragon's shoulder as she stood. "what's the 'mergency, sugar pop?" In her tired state the nickname wasn't quite up to par but, it got the message across.

She'd grown fond of her friend, who frankly she should just call a roommate at this point. She wasn't sure when it happened, when they went from strangers to friends. She might be a bit forward in saying this, but she'd consider Gamelia her best friend.

Diya would toss a sleepy smile to the candy dragon, trudging towards the door to see what was out there that was worth her being woken up.

A gasp spilled from the snowy feline as her eyes lit up, head lashing back and forth to follow the stars. Her paws began to move quickly, dragging her onto the beach where she paced, eyes on the meteors. Amazement filled Diya, her tail lashing as joy filled his from her paws to her ears. "Gamelia! Look at it!" she would begin to literally jump for joy, looking like an excited child on Christmas.

[align=center][div style="bgcolor= black; max-width: 500px; font-family: Times New Roman;font-size:11pt;text-align:justify;"]She'd not been on the island for too long and already it seemed as though miracles were happening. She'd not seen very many meteor shows in her life, so when she had glanced up at the sky as she came back from her exploring, she stopped in a hushed awe. In her own culture, they called it a Persied after Perseus, the showers normally coming from the constellation he had earned after his adventures, and often meant something good or bad was about to happen. She wasn't sure if the same rules applied here on the island with the animals, but she could only hope that it meant the former.

With The Typhoon living on an island, it was only natural that seeing meteor showers was a common occurance. After all, the skies are normally clear near bodies of water, so long as it wasn't raining or storming, but that didn't mean this meteor shower wasn't beautiful. Aphra wasn't a space person by any means, but she did appreciate how pretty the sky was at night. Seeing others coming out of their huts made the she-cat curious and she definitely didn't regret coming out to see what everyone was in awe at.

Aphra settled herself a little ways from her home, laying down on her back and watching the 'stars' streak across the sky.[glow=COLOR,1,400]✧*:・゚[/glow]

[align=center][div style="text-align:justify;width:55%;font-family:verdana;"]You are my lucky star.

Does it make you sick to see something beautiful? There are twice as many stars in the sky and they shine doubly bright, their dance a lasting cascade from deep blue to morning's amber. For the life of him, he cannot decide if there is a correlation between the leader's polite dipping-out of home and the silent evening fireworks, or if these sorts of events could only happen by coincidence.

If he feels closer to the sun it is only because the earth feels warmer, tonight, and the evening far less dim under the lights above. And maybe he feels a deep warmth in his chest because he is not alone here, too, but if he attributes the feeling to a deeper love than camaraderie, then he'd hope something big and bright crashes into him to end the thought, then and there. He's new to this, is all.

"It's nice, isn't it?" If he could touch him he would, put his metal hand on his shoulder, press his head into the warm and fuzzy crook of his neck. Emil deserves an apology from him that words cannot convey, but maybe this is enough. Ahab sits with that weight in his chest, mothers it. He thinks, if this is the beginning of the end, he'd be happy to let go just like this. There is perhaps nothing more he could want than the body at his side and the knowledge that his family is happy and warm in their beds. They'd go silently. He'd smile and let himself burn to nothing. It was better this way, to be at peace with it.

But they are not dead yet, and as he's thought to himself time and time again, the world continues to turn. A few stars streak across the purple sky, and he cannot help but wonder what wish he'd rather make true.

Lucky, lucky. lucky.

Re: STARS WERE MADE FOR FALLING / meteor shower - ROXANNE R. - 05-05-2020

[glow=white,1,400]I LOVE YOU, CANNIBAL QUEEN !。+゚.[/glow]
Roxanne had never seen anything like this and was in complete awe, her pupils widened the moment she spotted something streak across the sky. A meteor shower. The fur on her body began to rise slightly, she noticed a lot of people leaving their huts to watch the spectacle and well, she wondered if she could get her friend to watch them with her. He had been visiting her home, he had been draped across the couch with his gaze fixated onto the ceiling no longer intrigued by the movie he and Roxie had been watching. It wasn't long before Roxanne had returned with a sudden skip to her step as she eagerly mewed "C'mon, there's something you should come see!" She watched a frown form on his face and the way his jaws would part as if to protest but Roxie already had taken hold of his paws that were much larger than her own. There was such a radiance coming off of her, it wasn't  everyday that Roxanne was this excited about something. She flinched realizing what she had done and moved her paws away feeling the heat rise to her face only to say with her gaze turning away from Miller "S-sorry... I got excited." She noticed his own face softening for a moment though it was soon replaced with a faint smile. She watched the cheetah roll off the couch and stand on his paws, he nudged her gently only to make his way out the door.

Roxanne followed spotting him just a little ways from her house, he was already sitting down and the Reaver didn't take long to approach him. She would sit beside him only for her mismatched gaze to turn upwards to the sky, fixated onto all the small meteors. It took her a moment to realize that the cheetah had been talking to her and she snapped out of her brief daze mewing with embarrassment "S-sorry!" Miller nudged her gently, Roxanne would playfully glare at him forgetting about the meteor shower in that moment. The only sound echoing within her ears is the rhythm of her heart, she would look away for a moment spotting Ahab and Emil. Her head titling to the side briefly, she was happy for them. Truly. Her gaze turned back to Miller both ears perked forward, she would lean against him. She could feel him grow stiff although it subsided in moments. The both of them watching the meteor shower in silence that was occasionally interrupted by dumb comments and giggles. Her heart racing in that moment.

Ah, how lovely. [glow=COLOR,1,400]✧*:・゚[/glow]

[div style="width: 500px; text-align: justify; font-family: helvetica; font-size: 9pt; line-height: 1.4;"]SALEM | Softly, vine-wrapped paws crossed the sand -- quick, from his treehouse the small wildcat descended.  Fondly gleaming, dark eyes shone behind the sockets of the pumpkin; bright with intentions to share word of a fond new book with a friend.  Another tale he may have read aloud, possessing no braille copy nor knowing how to find one.

Salem heard, rather than saw the excited commotion, head lingering in the clouds.  Just as paws began to reach the tavern's entrance, perked ears caught the words -- meteor shower.  Abruptly, the youth halted, soon sheepishly mumbling apologies over a near collision with an enthusiastic npc.

Gently, his brows creased, head soon turning up in wonder.  The morning sky stretched clear above the shores -- an open canvas for an astrological phenomenon.  Quietly, Salem took a seat a little away from the tavern, breathing it in.

If I fall, get knocked down, pick myself up off the ground
Despite never seeing the light, Keona often rose with the sun.  Perhaps a pattern of sleep.  Perhaps the warmth sinking into her fur.  Perhaps as the sounds of the daily life began to reach her sensitive ears.  As the tiny dealer rose with a stretch, she noticed the commotion almost immediately.  In her paws.  Through her ears.

With a frown, Keona felt her brows furrow.  The tavern was lively, true.  But it must be early in the morning and this felt different.  With a soft puff of air, the fae began down the stairs.  Her ears flicked back sharply along the way, biting the inside of her cheek.  An unusual commotion today.  More voices than normal.

Still.  She trotted out the tavern.  Remaining oblivious, her petite paws began moving towards Salem on instinct.  The pumpkin spice scent easy to locate and identify.  He sat a lone comfort among an unusual buzz of activity.  Quiet.  Still.

"Salem," softly, her voice rang with bemusement.  "What is it?"

Hearing Roxanne's voice, Aphra sat up, her ears pricked in search of the Reaver. This was actually a really good time to spend with her, wasn't it? It would be girls night but without the drinks, something Roxanne might appreciate - or at least, that was her mindset. However, when she saw Roxie with Kaz, Aphra felt her heart sink. That's supposed to be me with her.

Aphra settled back on the ground, though she no longer laid with her stomach facing the sky. Honestly right now, she just wanted to act like she hadn't seen Roxanne hanging out with someone else. Or at the very least, seem like she enjoyed another person's company. The way the two seemed to look at each other rubbed Aphra the wrong way and she wasn't sure why. Whatever. She huffed to herself, closing her eyes. Maybe it would be better to sleep through this whole thing.[glow=COLOR,1,400]✧*:・゚[/glow]
